Re: 2019 Saints NFL Draft

We need to start getting our mock draft thread together. I've probably got another trade up coming mine and depending on what we get out of the Quinn deal we could have more picks. I'm still hoping they trade Bridgewater for Quinn and a 3rd. Then we might even be trading up for a QB or drafting Grier in the 2nd.

Cher, we're not trading Bridgewater. If the Payton/Mickster felt Bridgewater wasn't their guy, Teddy wouldn't have been paid $8mil to be a backup QB...

Also, if Bridgewater and agent didn't have certain "assurances", Bridgewater would have signed the offer from Miami when the opportunity presented...

Bridgewater wants to QB a good team and know his coaches have his back - and Payton has done that publicly and with the current contract...

Bridgewater doesn't want to go to Miami where it's known there's a fire-sale so Miami Owner Stephen Ross can get his guy, Tua Tagovailoa...

As of right now I have the Saints trading up with the Raiders in the 1st round and picking a TE and grabbing best player available in the 2nd and yes we'll trade at least our 1st rounder next year combined with another pick, probably 3rd.

Getting intrigued by Texas DE Charles Omenihu. Measured 6-5, 280 with 36” arms and played a variety of spots from 3 to 9-technique.

In the right system and coaches, I think Lodge could become a better pro than Metcalf. DL is a good kid, watched him grow at Cedar Hill High (outside of Dallas) and zero red flags. If he can master the route tree, he could surprise some.

(Misdirection) Let's not forget TE Dawson Knox and CB Kenny Webster, don't think the Saints haven't been watching film on those guys...

Many analysts are saying he’s the more polished and pro-ready of the Ole Miss WR’s due to his excellent blocking and ability to get a clean release from press coverage. It’s entirely possible that he could still be there at our 5th round pick.

According to Tony Pauline we’re also showing a lot of interest in UCF DT Trysten Hill. There are some character concerns with him... Clashing with the coaching staff led to less and less playing time. Maybe Tre’Quan Smith can vouch for him.

Don't underestimate that last part, Payton places great weight with folks in-house or that he knows (too much imo, he should trust his eyes and scouting)...

This is a better interface draft simulator, doesn't come with the upgrade option to trade picks (which is part of draft simulation when players fall)...

Love their Mock Draft Machine! It’s the only one I use now. Love the fact that you can select for all teams. That’s a real lesson in futility when you try going all the way to our pick at 62.

R6P29 LB TEREZ HALL (MISSOURI)

No kidding. I did a quick two-round mock picking for the NFC South teams and they get significantly better while we just grab a deep threat:

Round 1

5. Buccaneers- LB Devin White (LSU)

14. Falcons- DE Brian Burns (FSU)

16. Panthers- DE Clelin Ferrell (Clemson)

Round 2

39. Buccaneers- CB Rock Ya-Sin (Temple)

45. Falcons- OG Chris Lindstrom (Boston College)

47. Panthers- S Deionte Thompson (Alabama)

62. Saints- WR Emmanuel Hall (Missouri)

The only frustrating thing will be having to watch Roger Godhell hug all the players like he cares about them.
I know we will probably trade up which means I'll have to watch the whole draft even with our limited picks. I don't want to miss out!

I won't be frustrated at all. We've already loaded and will still be the best team in the NFL with the one or two draftees we get that make the final roster. I feel the importance of the draft is diametrically opposed to the caliber of the talent already on the roster. We have picked up players via free agency that will have more immediate impact than any player we draft.

But there is no guarantee that any of those players will translate to what it takes to succeed in the NFL. These teams have all let good veteran players go to free agency. Will they truly improve as a final product?

Re: 2019 Saints NFL Draft

Sigler is reporting there may be more idiocracy coming this draft and it is the same kind of BS trade (i.e. Ricky Williams) that always fails - always...

It takes 53 men - 5-3 to have a winning team - there are just too many problems when you put all your capital into one or a few player(s)...

Uber player gets hurt, you're done - Uber player is a bust, you're done - Uber player plays solidly, like other first rounders, you're still done...

Haven't we learned from our mistakes? The perennial contenders in the Superbowl win year in, year out through the draft...

No, not every player pans out, but the more picks, players you're able to get, the better your odds for landing more talent, and spreading it around...

Amazes me how much the 2017 draft showed what happens when you have more selections - and yet Payton/Mickster the following year reverts back to overspending on Free Agents, throwing draft capital...

Payton is like a f*cking an unchecked DC politician continuing to spend, operate further & further in a deficit (talent deficit for this team); Saints need a check and balance on personnel decisions...

If Sigler is hearing talk of this happening, it'll thoroughly end the Brees run, and likely without another Lombardi...

Guido, Patriots, Steelers, Ravens are teams that always seem to bounce back in an "off year" and constantly reload for a run, check appearances in conference championships...

They've got excellent scouting divisions and those coaches trust the draft process and they've got better winning percentages, division, conference, league championships...

We've got a great personnel man in Jeff Ireland, Saints FO needs to back off and let this man collect and reload talent...

We keep trading up constantly making a splash, and even then we're barely hitting 50-50 doing it that way - and we're getting fewer talented players...

Stop the Insanity, Sean, Stop the Insanity...

I wouldn’t read too much into meeting with Ed Oliver. If anything, we’ve probably heard Atlanta wants him and we’re doing opposition research.

Re: 2019 Saints NFL Draft

Saints really need to trade back AND trade up to get as many Day 2 and beginning Day 3 (Rounds 3, 4, 5) as possible...

Precisely.

2017 Pats drafted 4 players, only one (Wise) made the team.
2018 Pats drafted 9 ...only 1 (Sony Michel) was a contributor.

The draft is a crap shoot.

The Patriots are not a good example, in my opinion. Yes, they often have a buttload of picks, but they also miss on those picks at a far greater percentage than most. They owe most of their success to being in a sorry division, thus perennially giving them excellent seeding in the post-season. They are also far more active in free agency than most.

As for word about this Oliver kid, or any other rookie, concerning what the Saints, or any other franchise, is thinking ... I don't believe any of it. You know this time of the off-season is the season for misinformation. If anything is leaked out it is most likely the furthest thing from what is actually being discussed. Besides, each team has a certain number of interviews/visits allotted and all franchises should be looking ahead to when this current crop of rookies become free agents in four years, or so.

I just got to this post, Major. This supports exactly what I was pointing out about the Patriots and their draft record.
