Matthews or Eli perhaps? ... good cornerback depth is necessary. I'd also take a flyer on Clay. Situational pass rusher who had 8 sacks in 2019. Just don't trust Davenport's health past week 12.

So here's why - Matthews, at his age, would be playing SAM LBer, and we already have Zach Baun, Kiko Alonso, and Alex Anzalone set to compete there opposite DeMario Davis... Besides already having three options already there, I mentioned Baun first and for this reason: Baun will need the snaps to mature, develop as much as possible, why take that away with Matthews? |
Re: 2020 NFL Free Agency: New Orleans Saints
I'm over the Clowney talk. He won't fit here and honestly I think Davenport, if healthy, can create just as much pressure. And with greater athleticism.
If we are going all-in on another FA, I hope it's another rangy LB or solid CB> |

I figured this would happen eventually. He did a very admirable job filling in for Armstead last season. |

Nick Underhill
@nick_underhill · 9m The Saints signed Ty Montgomery, per source. Here's why he could be a unique weapon for them. https://neworleans.football/ty-montg...on-for-saints/ via @NOdotFootball |

It really is a fascinating signing AG. Montgomery’s history as a WR and RB makes him such an obvious chess piece for Sean Payton that I can’t believe we didn’t sign him sooner.

Re: 2020 NFL Free Agency: New Orleans Saints
Really want to bring Eli Apple back...
|
Re: 2020 NFL Free Agency: New Orleans Saints
I'd prefer Logan Ryan or Denard, however Eli Apple would be more cost effective and the realistic option.
IMO E Griffen is a probably a pipe dream ... especially considering they signed the guy from Indy. |

Alec Olgetree, Matthews and Golden are still out there. Proven vets who are either good in pass protection or can consistently disrupt & get to the QB. |
Re: 2020 NFL Free Agency: New Orleans Saints
Anthony Chickillo... I don’t know much about him but I don’t think there really is much to know. He’s another 3-4 OLB that mainly plays on special teams.

Think it was two seasons back Chickillo got to start for the season as the Steelers had injuries and he was el fuego...
He had a domestic dispute with a girlfriend that set his development back which is too bad because he looked promising... Steelers Get Creative In Chickillo’s Career-High Snap Count Not a big fan of the players who have domestic violence rap sheets... Charges against Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Anthony Chickillo dropped Update: It was four (4) years ago he had a decent stretch of games... |

I just wonder who the CB will be that we bring in? I hope he's one of those players for Payton who can step it up in the right system. And we do have the right system and culture for players to thrive in their role which is well defined here.

Re: 2020 NFL Free Agency: New Orleans Saints
I wonder if the Saints have any interest in Ziggy Ansah for 2020?
He was on our radar this time last year. I'm just not completely sold on what's behind Jordan & Davenport in the DE rotation. |
Re: 2020 NFL Free Agency: New Orleans Saints
Read an interesting tweet from Nader Mirfiq @Nader723 ...
Claims Saints have shown interest in Jadeveon Clowney on a one year deal. Anyone ever heard of this guy? Reliable or credible source? |

I’ve followed Nader on Twitter for a long time and he seems to be a good guy. I don’t recall ever seeing him post bogus info for attention unlike certain others.

Re: 2020 NFL Free Agency: New Orleans Saints
Listened to Moving the Chains on XM RADIO today on the drive back from Nola. They praised the pickup of OT James Hurst and said a loaded offense basically keeps building quality depth. They also joked that losing Noah Spence wasn't a big loss as a VERY big inside joke. Obviously Jim Miller wasn't high on him in their extensive draft coverage. They went through all of our offensive weapons, including saying Trautman can be something very special, and said that there are so many interchangeable parts that they'll be hard to stop. Paraphrasing here. Hard to take copious notes while driving.

Everson Griffen (stole Warford/Peat's lunchmoney in the w/c game) Logan Ryan Darqueze Dennard Markus Golden (10 sacks in 2019) Larry Warford (played poorly vs Vikes) Michael Bennett Cash Money Clowney The author states Eli Apple agreed (one year deal) to terms with the Raiders however that deal fell through. I wouldn't rule out the Saints bringing him back for depth. |
