I didn’t watch a single bit of the XFL... how is this Deatrick Nichols kid? Sounds like he’s mostly a nickel CB.

I watched every minute of every Roughnecks game, but honestly never concentrated on individual defensive play. He did lead the league in picks.

Saw him at Global Life Park here in Arlington a few weeks back. Has a nose for the ball. IIRC he had two picks on Landry Jones in that game . Houston has a lot of good players though.

Nichols will have to earn a spot on special teams if he expects to make the team.

I remember that game. Everyone had two picks off Landry Jones.

LOL!

No further details yet. We’ve gotta be looking to make another big signing.

Thank you Chris! Was hoping to catch some good news tonight!

I hope we target someone who can pressure the QB!

Suspect we're probably adding PJ Williams or some other DB with the versatility to play CB2/boundary for short stretches...

Take a look at the depth chart to see out thin we are at outside cornerback...

I want to stay far away from PJ. Nickel Robey-Coleman is another slot guy...but I rather do that. Maybe draft a boundary guy.

How about former Philly Eagle Ronald Darby?

If we can maintain and consistent, formidable pass rush .. these talented guys (Jenkins, Latt, CGJ) will absolutely eat on the back end.

Darby flashed a lot of potential early on. He had an injury right? Maybe that’s why he didn’t perform as well last year.

What the hell is going on with Bell? Injury? I figured he would be gone or signed by now. 4 years ago he would have been the best DB on our team.

The safety market has been really tough the last few years.

Saints offered him $7.5 mil/year and his agent didn’t get back to the Saints so they moved on. I think he pulled an Ingram and trusted his agent a little too much. Nobody’s rushing to sign him because he’s a box safety.

A key read for me on the post ^^^ by JP …

Peat has endured heavy criticism for his propensity to get beaten in pass protection along with an unfortunate knack of being somewhat injury-prone at times; and despite the fact that he has some good and even great performances in certain games, the 2-time Pro Bowl selection is still likely a prime candidate to be released or traded in one of the upcoming seasons ahead.
INDIVIDUAL PLAYER GRADE: C-

Sean overspent in draft capital to acquire him; Saints patiently developed him for the entirety of his rookie contract; then he leaves to go to the Bengals on a 3yr/$7.5mil per annum deal?

*** Edit - Vonn is a now a Bengal.

Good luck to him.

Bell played better during the time he was here than Jenkins did. Bengals got a ascending SS.

Yeah not sure how I feel about it, Bell had a pro bowl level season at 25 years old (I think) and we let him go in favour of a 32 year old.

Chauncey Gardner Johnson made Bell expendable. Vonn is a good player but limited as a box safety.

IMO the Saints will be fine on the back end.

Yet what has killed us according to some was the lack of discipline in the secondary in the playoffs. Jenkins has those leadership qualities and 32 isn't old when we are in it to win it now. We brought in some veterans that helped us win it all in 2009-10. Maybe we need the same input today.

Vonn Bell messed up. We offered him more but he big-timed us.

He didn’t grade out as a Pro Bowl level safety. He finished with a 64.6.

Jamal Adams was the SS for the AFC. He had an 88.2.

Harrison Smith was the NFC guy. 89.8

Bell wasn’t anywhere near that ball park. Malcolm Jenkins ended up with a 68.6. Not particularly great either, but better than Bell. CJG had a 72.6 though. Now that’s what I call an ascending young player.

These grades aren’t everything, but they do tend to tell a pretty good story.

ChrisXVI 03-25-2020 04:13 PM

Re: 2020 NFL Free Agency: New Orleans Saints

On the plus side, the Vonn Bell signing should net us a 6th round comp pick. So that makes a 3rd rounder for Bridgewater and 6th for Bell!

No fair. You are using inductive thinking rather than incorrect facts.

Re: 2020 NFL Free Agency: New Orleans Saints

You don’t take less to sign with a team like the Bengals. We offered him an amount and he declined because he thought he could get more. Saints didn’t have time so they signed Jenkins. Bell finally realizes he messed up and wasn’t worth more than what the Saints offered and has to sign for less with Cinci.

To be fair, discipline will break down when you're req'd to cover longer than expected because the pass rush is on IR nearly every post-season...

Signing Onyemata was all about being available; we've got to get even more physical on that defensive line; we should be banging up their line, not the other way around...

Frisco flat out whipped us physically in our house last year, that can never happen again if we want to be taken seriously as contenders and not relegated to Mora Mediocrity...

Surely the Jenkins signing will wipe out anything for Bell
