IMO the meat and potatoes of the draft are rounds 2-4. Winfield Jr, Diggs, Hurts, Dobbins, Claypool & our very own Adam Trautman (3rd rd) taken on Day 2, 3 had impact for their respective teams as rookies.

Day 2 (see Michael Thomas) Saints draft selection could be just as important as that #28 pick.
We’re going to trade up in the second round. With all the extra picks we’re getting next year we aren’t going to care one bit about trading them away. I think we’ll go Zaven Collins in the first and then trade up in the second for a CB.

A QB this year so early is a waste, imho. Roll with Winston or Hill..., or both at the same time if need. Give both a chance to earn, and own, the starting gig. I just don’t see the value in a QB so soon, when we have Hill and Winston on the roster, and neither have been handed the keys to the team yet.

Bottom line, let’s see what they can do. Our first three rounds, including comp picks, need to be immediate assets, playing assets also. Not projects.

Maybe but if you Draft Trask in the 2nd round this year and he shows he can do a job even just to the same level as Winston or Hill then you save a fortune in 2022 with his deal being not much above 1ml a year. If the front office think he is a future starter i would argue it makes plenty of sense

I get your logic and agree, but we fairly recently (2015 iirc) drafted a third round QB, didn’t work out but the FO must have though very highly of him, given the fairly high draft pick, 75 overall, used. I’m not as confident in the Saints player analytics wrt QB’s as I am wrt OLinemen, lol.

The way I’m looking at the QB pos’n right now is unless there is a slam dunk guarantee starter, in this draft, who will be better than Jameis or Taysom..., then don’t address a possible “need” or a possible “cap saver”. This team has some quite obvious, unambiguous needs. Prioritize those.

Tom Brady was the 199th pick, Round 6. Joe Montana a third round pick. Drew Brees was the 32nd pick, and Brett Favre 33rd pick, both in the second round...

Kurt Warner was an Undrafted Free Agent...

So your QB can come from any location, though I admit, most come in the first round...

Lee I know this is only a "mock" but I hope the Saints stay away from guys with medical red flags in college. Especially that high in the draft. No biggie if we are taking a gamble on a 6th or undrafted player. But 1st or 2nd round ? No way.

Ha'oli Kikaha comes to mind.
