Nick Broeker
G

Ole Miss

He played a lot of LT in college but scouts tend to believe his fit in the NFL would be GUARD. Had a decent senior bowl. Good size and strength.

Mid-round grades (2-4)

Only 2 "reserves" under contract at LB - Zach B and D'Marco J (coming off an injury as a rookie) who is still unknown.

Drafting a LB in the middle rounds could be an option.

Here is a prospect in your backyard:

Micah Baskerville
LSU

Good against the run and had 89 tackles and 8 PBU in 2022.
Mid-round grades (3-4)

I’d trade out of the 1st and grab an extra 3rd and 5th from the Cardinals.

2nd Round (34): Felix Anudike-Uzomah, DE
2nd Round (40): Mazi Smith, DT
3rd Round (71): Jammie Robinson, S
3rd Round (96): Tyjae Spears, RB
4th Round (115): Tre’Vius Hodges-Tomlinson, CB
4th Round (147): Dorian Williams, LB
5th Round (166): Kobie Turner, DT
5th Round (168): Chandler Zavala, G
7th Round (228): A.J. Finley, S

Jack Campbell
LB

Iowa

BIG LB @ 6'5, 10" paws, 4.65 40
Has decent range

Ross Jackson has him mocked to us in the 2nd round.

We'll see.

So basically really an UDFA, then?

Not at all.

The meat and potato guys. Quality NFL contributors selected on Day 2. See Pete Werner, Elijah Molden (3rd rounder), Devin Duvernay, or Jonah Jackson (G/rd3).

Josh Downs

I heard today that Carolina may be seriously considering Anthony Richardson with their first round pick. It's being rumored that they may be interested in trading down to #2 overall knowing that Houston will take either Young or Stroud with their first pick leaving Richardson.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba
WR

"THEE" Ohio State

Serious hands & solid route runner. Day 2 (rd) projections.
There is no secret that OSU is the Saints farm team.

Wouldn't rule out a WR with either of our top 2 draft picks.

Then again, Jeff and Allen are probably getting their last "up close and personal" look at CJ Stroud and/or Young. Gauging their strengths/weaknesses.

Carolina is most definitely going QB with their first pick :beatnik:

I hope not.

Chris Olave is the truth & that was a Dennis Allen pick.

I recall reading an article right before the 2022 draft that Sean implied he wouldn't target a WR until 2nd/3rd rounds.

Luckily no one was interested in his draft strategy

With the amount of meetings with WRs it’s looking very possible. If this guy drops to us for our first pick, I wouldn’t be surprised if they pick him.
I can’t imagine he’ll make it to pick 29 much less 40

If they really want him they will not hesitate to trade up. The same can be said for any other player they covet.

Is this the year to covet a player enough to spend additional draft capital on him by moving up for a player? We are not one player away from a championship at the moment and I hope we stand pat and take BPA. Or they could move down and get additional draft picks to reload with. But, everyone knows that we don't operate that way.

Yup. That's why I expect them to move up at some point.

Re: Mock Drafts 2023

I can definitely see this happening.

25. NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (VIA NYG): EDGE MYLES MURPHY, CLEMSON
Trade: New Orleans sends Nos. 29, 115, 165; New York sends No. 25, No. 240

Saints 2018 first-round edge defender Marcus Davenport just departed in free agency to the Minnesota Vikings, and 2021 first-round edge defender Payton Turner has come along slowly with just 315 total snaps over his first two seasons.

The beauty with Murphy is that while he builds his arsenal as a pass rusher, with some technical refinement necessary to add to his nasty bull rush and long-arm moves, he can be a positive against the run early in his career. Murphy’s 80.2 run-defense grade over the past two seasons is a top-30 mark among FBS edge defenders, and his 21.2% positively graded play rate against the run is 20th. He has a rare combination of high-end strength to set the edge and disrupt plays at the point of attack and speed to pursue ball carriers.

Interior offensive line makes a lot of sense here, as well, but New Orleans will likely be able to target the position with their second-round pick at No. 40 overall.
