Mock Drafts 2023

Yes, first one of the season is already out. And it even includes picks gotten from a SP trade.

https://saintswire.usatoday.com/list...myr-gibbs-nfl/

Not sure on who they want for the number 1 pick. But we pick up QB Hooker. Is that even realistic, I wonder?

What's your take on Hooker ?

I didn't realize he was a 6th year senior at Tennessee/Va Tech back (redshirt) up? Is he worthwhile to stash for a year, learn the system, then take over as your starter (long term)?

The last scouting report I read had him as Day 2 (mid rounder) selection.

Idk much about the QB class in this draft. But if we get a 1st rounder for SP, we better get a solid QB to come in and be the future. As far as getting a RB in round 1…idk man. Seems like a reach with that pick. I like the safety pick though.

I love Hendon Hooker. He's 6'4", 220 lbs. Good speed. Great arm strength. Accurate passer. He went from 61% to 65% to 68% to 70% completions each year. 2021 he had 31 passing TDs and 3 picks. He was on the way to usurping that until the injury. The kid is a diamond in through if I've ever seen one.

Need to study his reading ability before answering.

I'd take him. Mostly 3 seconds and the ball is gone. Some 4 and 5 seconds looks, but not many. Seems accurate too.

Good height and weight too.

He has a quick release too, That's what you want.

We're not really sure yet what the current Purdy is. He has an excellent defense, one of the better offensive lines in the league, three matchup nightmares on offense (Kittle, Samuel, and McCaffrey), and arguably the best FB in the league (Juszczyk). He may very well be something special, or he may just be Gardner Minshew with all of the right tools around him.

Lol.

He's a "rookie, 7th rounder, no game tape, yadda, etc " ... whatever, I'm 100 with you on Purdy.

19-29 & NO TURNOVERS in a Div game against a STOUT Dallas defense. It's not like he's slinging the ball around against the Texans or the Colts .

When the opportunity presented itself, he delivered. Completion of 70% of his passes, 113 % QBR & only 1% INT percentage.

Good system, with elite play callers & coaches. Lynch will have some interesting decisions to make @ QB in 2023 when Trey is healthy again.

Saints better take some good notes on how the heavyweights continue to do it (coaching, talent evaluations, scouting) year in and year out.

2023 NFL DRAFT PROSPECT RANKINGS

With a few notably skilled exceptions, the bulk of the best players in the 2023 NFL play in the trenches.

With name, image and likeness rule changes and the transfer portal providing players more options than in the past, there are fewer underclassmen in this draft than in past years. There were 100 underclassmen granted special eligibility by the league in 2020 and 128 in 2021. This year only features 82. That said, the quality of this year's additions is high. Among these rankings of my top 50 prospects available, 37 of them are underclassmen.

Yep.

We need more big uglies. Too many porch poodles on this Saint's offensive line.

Fortify those lines like San Fran.

Hire Byron or Anthony Lynn as OC.

Hoping we don't get rid of any picks. We honestly need all of them. And we can get Hooker or another QB in the 2nd.

A great draft will help us relieve the cap too with all these rookie contracts.

Drafting Hooker means a longer leash for Dennis Allen .

I wouldn’t won’t that at all.

Not sure your source is accurate. It's a mock with a Cardinals scenario.

New Orleans Saints Draft Picks by Round in 2023

Round 1, Pick 29 (from DEN via MIA and SF)
Round 2, Pick 40 overall
Round 3, Pick 71 overall
Round 4, Pick 112 overall
Round 5, Pick 143 overall
Round 5, Pick 163 overall
Round 7, Pick 205 overall

You're missing the #1 pick... at 29.

One thing I hope we don’t do is reach for a quarterback just because we need one. And I hope to god we don’t blow our load and trade valuable picks just to move up and draft one. Take what the draft gives you and build this team until the right qb comes along, whether it’s through FA or the draft

Nick Barnett had a pretty good career, as well. Eleven years in the league averaging close to 120 tackles in each of his eight full years.

Steve Avila - OG (TCU)

Ranks as one of the better o linemen in the Big 12, versatile, 2 time All-American & team Captain.

Day 2,3 prospect for sure.

I'd prefer another big ugly with the first pick.
