How about drafting a lineman who isn't hurt his first season? That'd be great!

Looking for another TE "prospect"?

Zack Kuntz
Old Dominion
6'7" with athletic ability
40" vertical, 6.87 three-cone

FWIW, the RASS score is 10.0

Mid-round grades.

HOPEFULLY, Penning will be able to play this year. If so, That will be like adding a 1st round pick to the Oline.

Hopefully MT plays a full season a returns to form like he did in the first 3 games of last season, he will also be like adding a 1st round draft pick to the offense.

BJ Ojulari
DE

LSU

Solid in both pass and run protection. Good speed and power.

Probably not ready to be a full-time starter in year 1, but has a high ceiling.

Day 2 projections.

LSU Pro Day

Jordan Addison
WR

USC

Above average route runner, serious production at both Pitt & USC.
Possibly another weapon for DCarr? He'd be nice alongside Olave.

He looks real good. What round is he projected?

With Peat the Pillsbury dough boys contract up next year and Ruiz will be looking for a new contract I seriously hope we draft a guard in the first three rounds to step in next year for one of them. I sincerely hope that Peat is a gone Pecan next year. Ruiz had some serious improvement last year and I'm excited to watch his continued growth this year to see if he earns a second contract in New Orleans.

I read somewhere that the rework of Peat’s contract makes it likely he will be gone after this year.

That's what they said about Thomas after the season this year. I remember seeing what you saw about Peat. It came from someone that doesn't understand Saints cap and contract management so I blew it off.

Nick said the same thing about Thomas and actually admitted he was totally wrong after his contract was reworked the second time. I believe he said something about never doubting Harley again. :D

Re: Mock Drafts 2023

Dalton Kincaid
TE

Utah

Quick feet, fluid & that “burst” off the line. Potentially adding another weapon for DCarr & company.

Player comparison by scouts - Zach Ertz

Likely to be the first TE off the board. So maybe top 15?

Re: Mock Drafts 2023

STEVE AVILA

TCU
G

Solid lateral movement considering his size/weight. Can change his direction quickly to engage/block. Team captain & has good leadership traits.

Negatives - hand placement/inconsistent hands with a tendency to play "tall".

Mid-round (3-5) grades.

K Major 04-03-2023 11:02 AM

Re: Mock Drafts 2023

Tyjae "Shakespeare" Spears
RB

Tulane

Good burst, a solid change of pace back. In a phone box, he's hard to tackle (see Warrick Dunn). Looks small but plays BIG. See the USC/Cotton bowl.

His official 40 at his Pro Day - 4.47.

IMO his game reminds me of a guy up here, Tony Pollard.

Negatives - pass protection, cut blocking & slight build. At the NFL level, I'd prefer his weight at 210 minimum. He has 2 previous ACL injuries as well.
Mid-round (2nd-4th) grades.

FWIW, all 32 NFL teams were present at Tulane's Pro Day.

First-round interest in Hendon Hooker? - YouTube

I think he could be a solid NFL QB. You don’t put up numbers like that in the SEC without talent

I'm about as high on Hooker as you are.

There has been a lot of talk about him up my way as a guy to compete with Cooper Rush & eventually replace Dak.

I could be wrong but I see him getting selected on Day 2 only because of his ACL injury.

Before Carr I would have drafted him with our second round pick quickly. Now…we’ve put chips in on Carr. I’d rather see them get someone to help him succeed.

Now, I hope we go DL/LB with pick 1. Then, one of the top three TEs will be there at 41.

I only have one LB on my "mock" with 1st round grades and that's Jack Campbell from Iowa.

Who do you have?

Honestly, I’m not qualified enough to offer a name for LB. If I was going to look I’d start with the best/most talented SEC linebackers on my board (showing my bias). But I’ve not delved deep enough. It’s more an idea of getting a pass rush or line stuffing player on D being our first need.

We’ve thrown safety’s or CBs in the run stuffing/blitz support role a lot. We’ve had trouble with drafting the “LB” position for a while now. That’s always bothered me about Payton. They were Either drafting guys that didn’t fit the scheme we ran or focusing on large players.

Fortunately, Unlike the bad luck we’ve had getting WRs from other teams, we’ve done great getting LBs from other teams (jets!).

Before DCarr arrived, I'd say pull the trigger if you think he's your guy.

Now ... not so much. Would be completely shocked if the Saints draft a QB.

But hey, I've been wrong before :bng:.

I can see it at #40. I think they may move up from #29 a few spots to target a player they love.

It’s tough not to like him. But what if we draft him and Carr has a great year? Three years from now we may be very happy with Carr. That could suck. Good problem to have I guess.
