If by should we, you mean cut/trade fellow 2017 1st round pick former pro bowl now injury ridden CB Marshon Lattimore in a parallel move to the Bills releasing his draft twin White, then yes. Neither is worth the ~$20 million salary they are slated to earn and even if the dead cap to cut or trade or is hard to stomach in the first year, in the long term its the right thing to do in order to avoid overpaying year after year and kicking the can. Although actually, if we really insist on having veteran CB who will probably get injured paired with Taylor and Adebo, it might be more financially responsible to trade or cut Lattimore and his ~$20 million compensation, eat the dead cap hit, and sign White for $5 million on a year to year basis. |

Re: Official 2024 Free Agency Discussion
Supply and demand dictates the market value for safeties is looking to be way down.

All we can do is buy low - sell high. Not sure we have mastered that yet. https://steelersdepot.com/2018/06/fr...aying-patient/ |

Harbaugh is probably going to cut both if he gets no takers in a trade. |

Re: Official 2024 Free Agency Discussion
Generally I think aging or injury prone players entering the final year or two of a big contract are not smart to trade for. If they are cut, they may be affordable then. Deals are often backloaded where the final year or two only makes sense if the player is currently very healthy and young, and if they are getting very old and having to learn a new system it may have always been a stretch even if they are healthy. Sometimes the final year is slated in to drive up the average and make the agent look good. If the Chargers want to trade Bosa for Lattimore, ok, similar deal and we need Bosa’s position more. But independently, i dont think either is worth much.
I think there is more upside to going with a younger player who had someone blocking them on the depth chart on their previous team or going with someone cheap. Ultimately if Turner has similar talent to Bosa, and both have been injured the last few years, and we have to hope for a miraculous return to health, why not at least bet on the younger cheaper guy return to health if neither is likely? Ok I know Turner has been injured more than Bosa, but maybe Davenport is a better comp. Despite his great past, the last few years Bosa is just a slightly older Davenport. |
