R1 - Odell Beckham Jr., WR, LSU

Probably a second day pick as most mock reports indicate however he has 1st round talent (assuming he comes out early). Did you see his circus catch against Iowa? This guy is a playmaker with great hands.

To much hype for Dix, but I did like some of OU's DE's and OU's O-linemen, they were stout on both ends.

I really want someone like Cordarrelle Patterson, such a slick runner and he returned 4 to the house this year. Special Teams is a huge part of the game and a big momentum shift, we could have won 2-3 more games this year if we had gotten a kickoff returned for a TD in those games.

He's gotta take the needs off the board first before he goes to the wants, I think that is what made last years draft and free agent class such a beneficial one...

And if a resigned joe Morgan comes back to the team healthy I would by all means give him a shot at returning kickoffs. I remember him taking one back in a preseason game and I thought he would be great there, but the idea never saw daylight.

Re: 2014 NFL Draft

Don't trust the "big names" that disappear in big games...

And, I've noticed a trend with SEC players in the last twenty years..

And Alabama Alum in the NFL have not done, well, until the last couple years though Julio Jones and Eddy Lacy (we'll see how he builds on this year) may have "begun to turn the tide"; and there's the promise of the recent bumper crop of offensive linemen; but that's very recent, so I've got the fine spectacles on when looking at Tide players...

I don't trust Wide Receivers from Tennessee, but man, do they produce some really good players, especially linemen...

They get little fanfare, but Mississippi State, especially Defensive Linemen and now Cornerbacks have been a solid producer...

LSU was embarrassed by JaMarcus Russell, though that's mostly on him; but, many of their defensive prospects have transitioned well; plus, they're starting to produce receivers; nothing All-Pro, but very solid players...

Of the SEC teams in the last twenty-five years, I'd rank top 5 as Tennesse, LSU, Mississippi State, Auburn and Alabama with best quality NFL players produced, transitioned...

After this game I'd have to put CB as our top priority. I don't know if we'll ever see Greer in uniform again and after watching our defense without Lewis I'm sold on upgrading at corner. After that, go for BPA but I'd like to get some help at WR, OL, LB and Safety.

me :)

never to early to get a OG/OT in shape to step in. our starter aint getting any younger.

i really like some off the hybrid OG/OT this year. fill need at back up for both position right away. beef for jumbo set also. never know there are two to four OG in that draft that might be able to hold down the RT position as a starter.

I like flexibilty

We do have an expiring contract at Right Tackle in Strief; not so sure Armstead wouldn't be better suited as a Power Run Blocking Right Tackle, especially with his speed/athleticism...

With those athletic feet you don't waste him at RT. He was born to play LT.

True, but most of the better running games have an athletic right tackle..

Now, just put up an updated list with consideration of leaving Armstead at the LT...

However, Bushrod, more a plodder, was effective at redirecting speed rushers further out (increasing their rush arc/distance traveled), but had the size to negate, at least minimize, bull rushers - he worked well for that scheme...

Having Armstead's athleticism on the right edge would give a ++ advantage in matchups on that side of the line...

Wish we had more people not afraid to mocks; they shouldn't be afraid of ridicule, though playful poking is always healthy among friends...

There probably are prospects that should be discussed that just haven't been mentioned here yet...

There's some real good discussion and thought provoking insight even when we don't all have the same picture of the Saints team and status quo...

I voted guard. When Evans was hurt, Lelito was getting pushed around like he was on roller skates. That was when the offensive line was at it's worst this year. I'm afraid of what would happen if Evans or Grubbs had a season ending injury.

Re: 2014 NFL Draft

First game Lelito started early in the game he was hurt but he gutted it out his other starts he has played well considering he was from grand vallety state.just because he was not drafted i think we all know the saints 2013 ufda class was as good as a lot of nfl teams draft picks in 2013.lets look back at the 2013 ufda class qb griffin may not be a starter but will be a good 2nd string at worst,rb robinson is a gem same for te hill an de foster is a keeper.an one day mlb reddick will start an cb sweeting is a ok back up.So let take the highest rated player on the draft board an i think with the saints growing abilty to find ufda gems that the 2014 ufda class will cover for any need positions not drafted in 2014 in order to take the higest rated player with each pick.:bng:

I love the Justin Gilbert pick. Give me Gilbert, Beasley or Van Noy and I'd be very happy.

Re: 2014 NFL Draft

I'm in Jason Verrett's boat. If we take a CB in the first, I hope it's him.

Guy is lockdown in the pass-happy Big 12, which is impressive. He has fluid hips and the speed to turn and run with practically any WR. He's not a ballhawk, only recording 2 INTs his senior year, but I don't really care if he's a ballhawk or not as long as he doesn't allow his opponent to make catches - and he doesn't.

The knock on him is he doesn't have great size (only 5'10) but there have been plenty of CBs around that height to have success at this level.

Not opposed to your vote; but Grubbs, not Lelito, has been getting thrown like a toy (starting with the Miami game)...

Haven't seen Grubbs being beat but honestly, I rarely watch the o-line unless it's breaking down. I did notice Lelito getting creamed. Either way, all the more reason for more depth at guard. That little area behind the guards and center is Drew's little safe zone.

If you can watch the home game against Miami, right before we pulled away with Sproles running the wheel routes out the backfield just pass the flats; Grubbs was getting thrown like a kid...

Saw it happen again at the Jets...

They all looked horrible vs S'hawks...

Armstead caught all the bad press from the at Carolina game, but their guys were flat whipping our guys, including Grubbs, there...

He hasn't played at the level that his salary cap number would suggest...
