For two years ? Heck, Sherman is probably the best in the land but they still throw in his direction ... occasionally ;).
Side note: Did a quick read and I see he had a ton of pass deflections/break ups and what not. I'd prefer a corner who can snag it, change direction and take it to the house. I wonder if he falls to the 2nd round? |

Saints have dinner with several Clemson defenders, set up visit with safety Jayron Kearse.
A large Saints contingent, including Sean Payton, the defensive coaching staff and assistant general manager Jeff Ireland had dinner with cornerback Mackensie Alexander , defensive ends Shaq Lawson and Kevin Dodd, and several other Clemson teammates on Wednesday night, multiple sources told The Advocate. And at least one former Tiger already has a visit set up with the Saints. Jayron Kearse, a 6-foot-4, 216-pound safety, told local reporters at Clemson that he will visit the Saints, along with the Buccaneers, Lions, Jaguars and Steelers. Now the mention that the saints set up visit with safety Jayron Kearse of Clemson is interesting. He is falling like rock as a safety. I still question his mental abilities to handle the safety position much less the obvious the kid has the hips of a white boy at a sock hop. The kid can not flip to save his life. Question is really this, is he really that raw and/or still growing into this 6'4" frame? I am going with growing into that frame vs being that raw. 3 year starter How quick the media put him as a 1st and how quick the media has dropped him to a 4/5 and still falling. Media hype is fickle and can lead to many a broken hearts. But as a OLB/SS you might just have something to work with. Plenty of room left to put on 30 or so pounds. I hope they are think along these lines. He has a knack for causing fumbles while actually making tackles at the same time. A trait most of our secondary seems to have no clue how to do. It is one or the other. god knows I hate ball tackles. then you have his twin also Deandre Washington 5082 204 4.45 RB/WR/KR on the same club. Both need to prove they can handle duties at the NFL level to stick IMO. But they both have what Murphy lacks. break away speed. BUT do they have Murphy vision? round 7 flier to challenge Murphy? Roto has an interesting statement that makes me wonder how SP would use this kid. These type of manufactured touch players are very situation dependent, and hopefully Grant lands in the correct one. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/cfb/131234/jakeem-grant You always look for that final gear for a KR/PR/WR but this is insane. this kid has two final gears. unofficial hand clock speed range was 4.1 to 4.34. But the area the saints need to improve on special team is coverage. The poor coverage unit is a reflection of the poor depth the saints have at LB. More importantly our gunners. Our gunners are a refection of the saints not putting enough emphases on tackling skills for CB and safeties. You can always bet on the first 4 players down field not making the tackle. By the end of the game you will have extra money in your pocket to burn. That IMO is a main factor in drafting secondary. If they can not tackle I say pass. I hate Ball tacklers. My sister can tackle a ball. |

2016 Pro Day Notes: Thursday, March 10, 3:40 p.m.
By Tony Pauline, Draft Insider http://walterfootball.com/college/Clemson_logo.gif Clemson Players, scouts and coaches are leaving Clemson, and here is the latest word. Kevin Dodd looked terrific in both defensive line and linebacker drills, displaying a lot of athleticism and ease moving around the field. His testing numbers included a 30.5-inch vertical jump, 9-2 broad jump, 4.44 in the short shuttle and 7.31 in the 3-cone. He also completed 22 reps on the bench press. The question now is how early in Round 1 will Dodd be selected? I'm told Shaq Lawson also looked good in defensive line drills, but struggled when put through the battery of linebacker drills. People are gushing over the position workout of Mackensie Alexander. He was very fluid and natural in all his movements. Teams love the versatility he offers and the ability to line up in multiple coverages; man coverage, backed off the line, and zone. Many are critical of Alexander's stats last season: 5 PBUs and no interceptions, but as one scout rightfully said to me, "He can't intercept the ball if no one is throwing it his way!" T.J. Green looked much better in his positional workout at pro day compared to the Combine. He was smooth, and his footwork was much better. Green ran the short shuttle (4.4) and 3-cone (7.12) today. Conversely, scouts were not impressed by the positional work of Jayron Kearse. He was not as nearly as quick or smooth when taking reps with Green or Alexander. As one source said, Kearse may be best off adding 20 pounds and moving to linebacker. Finally, B.J. Goodson had a very good day in position drills and helped his stock. 2016 Pro Day Notes: Thursday, March 10, 1:45 p.m.
By Tony Pauline, Draft Insider http://walterfootball.com/college/Mi...State_logo.gif Mississippi State About 20 teams were on hand for the Bulldogs' workout, including Bengals defensive coordinator Paul Guenther. Receiver Da'Runnya Wilson improved his 40 time from the Combine, timing between 4.71 and 4.78. He caught the ball well in drills and completed 13 reps on the bench. Wilson met with the San Francisco 49ers today. Linebacker Beniquez Brown, who met with the 49ers yesterday, had a very good pro-day workout. Brown ran one 40, timing between 4.62 to 4.67 after weighing in at 236 pounds, seven more than his Combine weight. I'm told he looked outstanding in position drills and moved better than some of the defensive backs on hand. Take note - Brown met with the Dolphins during the day. I'm told defensive tackle Chris Jones had an outstanding positional workout and was described as "looking like a first-rounder." Underrated corner Taveze Calhoun also stood out in position work. Teammate Will Redmond, who is still recovering from the ACL injury which sidelined him the second half of the season, was on the sidelines. Quarterback Dak Prescott had an up-and-down day, making some nice passes but also throwing high of the mark on a number of occasions. Read more at 2016 NFL Pro Day Results: WalterFootball.com |

2016 Pro Day Notes: Thursday, March 10, 12:05 p.m.
By Tony Pauline, Draft Insider http://walterfootball.com/college/Tulsa_logo.gif Tulsa The New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers and Cincinnati Bengals (who sent their receivers coach) were just a few of the teams on hand to watch receiver Keyarris Garrett work out. Garrett measured slightly under 6-3 1/2 and 221 pounds, then tested in the vertical jump, where he improved to 38 inches (36.5 inches at combine). Position work is still going on, but there's a definite buzz building around Garrett, who entered the season graded as a street free agent. Consider this: After a record-breaking senior season (96 recptions, 1,588 yards, 8 TDs) Garrett ran 4.53s in the 40 at the combine, quelling concerns about his speed. He then had a terrific positional workout. Scouts also love the fact the big-bodied receiver comes with 34 inch arms. Garrett already has visits set up with the Indianapolis Colts, New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers. Read more at 2016 NFL Pro Day Results: WalterFootball.com |

By Tony Pauline, Draft Insider http://walterfootball.com/college/Illinois_logo.gif Illinois Safety Clayton Fejedelem had a very good day, measuring 6000, 204 pounds, posting a vertical jump of 40.5 inches, broad jump of 10-1 and timing the 40 in 4.45 to 4.50. He also completed 20 reps on the bench. Fejedelem, who was not rated by scouts entering the season, finished off a terrific senior campaign with a good showing during Shrine week and now looks like a lock in the late rounds. Receiver Geronimo Allison timed 4.56 in the 40 (compared to 4.67 at the Combine) and caught all the passes thrown to him in position drills. 2016 Pro Day Notes: Thursday, March 10, 9:50 p.m.
By Tony Pauline, Draft Insider http://walterfootball.com/college/Oregon_logo.gif Oregon Oregon had four players invited to the Combine, but the prospect who wowed everyone at pro day was linebacker Joe Walker, would did not receive an invitation. Walker's testing marks included measuring 6020, 236 pounds, posting a 37.5 inch vertical jump and a broad jump which measured 10-4. He completed 23 on the bench, then ran 40 times which clocked 4.60/4.63, a short shuttle of 4.37 and a 3-cone at 6.84. Walker then looked good in position drills. Graded as a street free agent entering the year, Walker was considered a terrific football player (he led the Ducks with 87 tackle last season) but questionable athlete. This will now have scouts rethinking that opinion. Walker met with the Cowboys last night. Receiver Byron Marshall was fully healthy and able to test. His marks included 4.28 in the short shuttle and 6.95 in the 3-cone. Marshall looked good in position drills. He has a workout scheduled with the New England Patriots. Offensive tackle Tyler Johnstone stood on his combine marks, but looked very good in position drills. Read more at 2016 NFL Pro Day Results: WalterFootball.com |

2016 Pro Day Notes: Friday, March 11, 11:15 a.m.
By Tony Pauline, Draft Insider http://walterfootball.com/college/OhioState_logo.gif Ohio State The league has descended on Columbus for Ohio State pro day, which is underway. Teams were on campus yesterday interviewing players (see below), including Joey Bosa, who had dinner with the San Diego Chargers last night. Le'Raven Clark of Texas Tech and the rest of the Red Raiders also take part in workouts today. Safety Tyvis Powell will participate in position drills today and rest on his testing numbers from the Combine. Powell had one-on-one interviews with the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Tennessee Titans and New Orleans Saints. As mentioned during the Combine, the Titans will look to select a safety during the draft's second day. The Lions will look safety early as well after missing out on George Iloka in free agency. Tight end Nick Vannett is expected to run today after not participating in the 40 at the combine. Yesterday, Vannett met with the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, Seattle Seahawks, Atlanta Falcons and New York Jets. Once again, the Jets are showing interest in Vannett, as they've met with him previously, and the team's offensive line coach worked out the tight end privately. Fast-rising linebacker Darron Lee interviewed with the Cleveland Browns and New Orleans Saints yesterday. One note from yesterday's pro day: I mentioned Taveze Calhoun looked terrific in position drills during the Mississippi State workout and impressed scouts. I've since found out the San Francisco 49ers met extensively with Calhoun the evening before pro day, and the cornerback had private meetings with the Miami Dolphins, New York Giants as well as the Los Angeles Rams. As for the Ohio State workouts: Receiver Michael Thomas has been really impressive in the early going and timed under 4.4 on his second 40. Thomas met with the New Orleans Saints yesterday, and from what I'm told, he had an outstanding meeting with the Cleveland Browns. The receiver also has a workout scheduled with the New England Patriots next week. I'm told tight end Vannett ran in the mid 4.7s. Something to take note of: In the past, teams have usually added .03 to .05 to times at Ohio State pro day due to the fast surface, Read more at 2016 NFL Pro Day Results: WalterFootball.com 2016 Pro Day Notes: Friday, March 11, 1:20 p.m. By Tony Pauline, Draft Insider Ohio State Pro day is coming to a close and these are the observations from people on the inside I briefly spoke with: Michael Thomas/WR: "Best workout of the day. Ran faster than I expected, ran terrific routes and caught the ball really well. Much better receiver than people give him credit for." Braxton Miller/WR: "Had a great workout but he also looked great during Senior Bowl practice. It's a matter of transitioning all this talent into game production, which he couldn't do during the Senior Bowl game. It may take a little longer than people want, but he'll get there." Ezekiel Elliott/RB: "Looked significantly better catching the ball today. I don't know what was wrong during the combine." Darron Lee/OLB: "Dynamic athlete and a good-looking football player. In the right system with proper coaching, he has Pro Bowl potential." Joshua Perry/ILB: "Big, and maybe a little to big. Somewhat stiff." (not a quote but some feel he can only play in a 3-4). Nick Vannett/TE: "He's going to be under-drafted. Should be a top-75 pick but may last until the fourth round. Does everything very well, but not the glamour-boy field-stretcher everyone wants today. " Read more at 2016 NFL Pro Day Results: WalterFootball.com 2016 Pro Day Notes: Friday, March 11, 4:50 p.m. By Tony Pauline, Draft Insider More on the Buckeyes: Some teams walked away from the Buckeyes' pro day with a 40 time for Michael Thomas in the low 4.3s. Like the Combine, most teams use the 40 time that's on their scouts' stopwatch as opposed to any "official" time that makes its way through the media. After the workout, Thomas met extensively with the San Diego Chargers. Joey Bosa is receiving very positive reviews for his workout today. He was faster (under 4.8 on most watches), stronger (28 on the bench) and significantly better in drills. Most on hand thought his position workout was outstanding. In the coming weeks, Bosa will work out or officially visit the Tennessee Titans (who met with him after the workout), Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys and Jacksonville Jaguars. Darron Lee spent a lot of time with the San Francisco 49ers after the workout and also met with the Tennessee Titans. He has cemented himself as a top-15 pick. While it was only bag drills, scouts on hand told me they were surprised by the power and punch displayed by Taylor Decker today. Read more at 2016 NFL Pro Day Results: WalterFootball.com |
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
My gut says WLB Darron Lee is a pick the saints would make.
Joshua Perry I still like as a SLB. Coverage skill are solid up to say 15 to 20 yards against WR. He can handle TE and RB in flat with no problem. Never used as a pass rusher really, when he did I like what I saw. underrated skill set Nick Vannett could be a bargain like they said. Vastly under used at OSU. Will the saints go BPA when he is on the board or will needs win out. I like old school TE. But we just sunk a boat load of cash in FA at TE. Tyvis Powell has it all. question is why did it take so long to show up? I fear he is a money player that only shows up when it is check time. Michael Thomas raw, route tree what that? I question his hands and desire. I see him never living up to his potential yet bouncing around the NFL for years. Can you say Ted Ginn Clayton Fejedelem is an interesting prospect but he does come with coverage issues. But the kid does leave it all on the field. Special teams beast? |
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
I'm going to go ahead and get these next batch of receivers out of the way.
These were round 2-3 but some have moved up(over Thomas) 1. Tyler Boyd vs Louisville (2015) | Draft Breakdown There was a lot of talk of him on here and I saw it myself. He was playing with what appeared to be a bad oline and ended up making some greats. His 6'1 height is a slight concern, but more concerning is his weight. 197 for a 6'1 frame screams soft. 2.Braxton Miller vs Virginia Tech (2015) | Draft Breakdown Braxton Miller vs Notre Dame (2015) | Draft Breakdown It's hard to take a QB-turned WR. I just cannot do that and as I have said never take someone offensive from OSU. Miller had some nice explosive plays though in these clips but he's a wildcat type player I don't think he works for us. Furthermore, he's ranked lower than his teammate! Now I don't really like any of these. 3.Pharoh Cooper vs Missouri (2015) | Draft Breakdown Pharoh Cooper vs Miami (2014) | Draft Breakdown Pharoh Cooper vs Kentucky (2015) | Draft Breakdown Not impressed at all. As a gamecock fan I didn't see many games last two years but his lack of clips on Draft Breakdown is concerning. The three clips I got of him, he's small and do not see him translating to the NFL well. I remember a guy named the late Kenny McKinley. He was better than Cooper in college too. Alshon is a good enough reason to stay away here. He was the best SC had in a long time. 4.Sterling Shepard vs Tennessee (2015) | Draft Breakdown Sterling Shepard vs Clemson (2015) | Draft Breakdown Just........NO. I have read about Big 12 having terrible talent recruiting but I did not like any of this. It took him to the late part to get anything going against Tennessee. And it seemed he was not as involved against Clemson. I don't like the conference, the school especially(as we know first hand what sooners were for us a couple years ago). And did I mention he's 5'10 and less than 200 pounds? I'm going to have to relook at some Thomas clips since we may end up drafting him if he's there in round 3. I also was looking down the list for height and weight and the Garrett guy is someone I need to look at as well as Lawler. Draft Round 2-Boyd Maybe Round 2-Miller Do Not Draft Round 3-Cooper Round 4-Shepard |
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
Tyler Boyd in round 2 would be a solid pick. I think he suffering from the same thing Keenan Allen did. over valued early then over scouted later.

I wouldn't like the Boyd selection at all; he's too small a physique...

Michael Thomas vs Rutgers (2015) | Draft Breakdown
Michael Thomas vs Maryland (2015) | Draft Breakdown Michael Thomas vs Illinois (2015) | Draft Breakdown on second thought my position on him has changed. He was not targeted enough and the qb was mediocre. He will not be the number 1 on our team if he is drafted and that may help. His only bad game in these clips was Illinoise. I saw him run after the catch also and get out of tough situations. With two top otions on the team already, he benefits as the number 3 or 4 and could take over for Coleman if he doesn't cut it. He might fall to round 3 where he could be a steal. Since we have a TE now no need to look into those. Onto DE, LBs. |
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
Also, Miller is more unadaptable from that system. Thomas dealt with contact and might be more NFL ready.

Josh Doctson WR TCU 6030 202 4.50 Tyler Boyd WR Pittsburgh 6015 200 as a first rounder I never understood. In the second he is an option. what I like is his silky smooth route running. He is a natural WR with great hands. Size and top end speed are the knocks but being were you are suppose to be goes a long way in the saints offense. A big plus is this over-*the*-middle toughness. He reminds me of Keenan Allen, Lmao I just google him and NFL did the same thing. Allen was compared to Jordy Nelson, maybe I should rethink this. But will Boyd drop into the 3rd round? Allen shocked many by being there in the third because of the same type of knocks against him. But it is the mid to late rounds I think the saints will take a WR as usual Tajae Sharpe, WR, UMass 6025 200 4.55 Geronimo Allison, WR, Illinois 6021b 197 4.59 still looking a few others Couple of 7/UDFA? Fleener doesn't have a history of reliable hands on crucial plays... Thomas is not making it past us the mid-second round... Coleman is not a core No. 1 / X-receiver... |

Su'a Cravens anyone? LB - USC Hadn't seen his name thrown around here all that much. USC Pro day is slated for 3/23/16. From what I've read, he has good coverage skills, speed & instincts.

At his pro-day, wouldn't mind seeing if he could convert to a strong safety because we're looking at a contract year for Kenny Vaccaro... You know, hadn't thought of that possibility till you brought up his name... |

The kenny is a valid point. this is a good year for SS/LB and FS/CB types. I would not mind if the saints nabbed two in the draft to upgrade depth and special team play. |

OLB Deion Jones 6007 222 showed off his wheels at LSU's Pro Day on Monday by running a 4.39 followed by a 4.38 in the 40-yard dash.
http://www.tigerdroppings.com/lsu-fo...-day/62422511/ http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings...016&genpos=OLB Only one year of starting experience Maybe I need to rethink the NFL.com mock draft I just mocked...nah but tempting Su'a Cravens vs Deion Jones lets see what Su'a runs. Su'a has more experience. Main question at WLB is, Do they have instincts, can they run and make plays. Today's NFL being all pass happy and stuff, size is taking a back seat to speed. I still like a bit more size than either one of these guys at WLBs myself. I am slow to evolve I guess. I see a guy like Jayron Kearse 6040 216 4.62 falling like rock from 1st round to 4th or 5th and look at his negatives of stiff hips for a safety and slow recovery speed and I think LB. require a leap of faith in the 5th? not really I would roll the dice. meaning I would pass on a third rounder for Jones |

Which I mean as a compliment BTW. If JC had a bit more lower body strength and durability I think he'd have been a very solid OLB in this league. I wouldn't complain one bit if we took Jones in the 2nd, and he'd be a steal in the 3rd. |
