Thomas is probably the second biggest receiver in this draft behind Treadwell. He's 6'3 220+ pounds. Everyone else is 6'1 or shorter, 200 or smaller. We already have two short wideouts and we really do not need a third so we can just rely on specific plays for Brees to throw deep. And if a player weights less than 200 I worry about the longevity. I think Doctson is going to be injury prone until he gets bigger. |

Okay you were talking about Garrett not Thomas. Might as well make the Thomas pick if you think Coleman won't be good. |

2016 Pro Day Notes: Monday, March 14, 7:15 p.m.
By Tony Pauline, Draft Insider http://walterfootball.com/college/LSU_logo.gifLSU The pro day at LSU is complete, and there were some rather fast times as Combine participants improved on their marks from Indianapolis. Linebacker Deion Jones was the day's big winner, timing 4.40 in the 40, an improvement of .19 seconds from his Combine mark. Safety Jalen Mills also bettered his mark from Indianapolis, timing 4.50 in the 40. Former LSU cornerback Rashard Robinson ran times which were clocked between 4.42 and 4.45. It was an improvement from his performance at the Combine; it was a solid mark, but not a great time. I'm told there were 21 teams on hand and a combination of secondary coaches, defensive coordinators and even few head coaches in Baton Rouge primarily to watch Robinson, who is all over draft boards. 2016 NFL Pro Day Results: WalterFootball.com |

2016 Pro Day Notes: Tuesday, March 15, 6:45 p.m.
By Tony Pauline, Draft Insider http://walterfootball.com/college/UCLA_logo.gifUCLA The day's big star from UCLA's pro day was linebacker Aarron Wallace. After some outstanding testing numbers, Wallace carried that momentum through the position drills. Though he slipped on a few occasions, scouts were very impressed the way he moved in reverse and how he looked in coverage drills, especially for a college linebacker who spent much of his career playing on or near the line of scrimmage. I'm told Wallace, who had dinner with Mark Duffner of the Tampa Bay Bucs last night, received raved reviews from UCLA coach Jim Mora, who went out of his way to talk up the linebacker to coaches and general managers in attendance. Myles Jack also looked incredible during position drills, but his non-participation in the 40 and shuttles rubbed some people the wrong way. Jack was described as a "remarkable athlete," and as one source at the workout said, "he looked like a defensive back doing linebacker drills," referring to his speed, quickness and ease of movement. Jack showed no ill effects from his knee surgery as he easily moved in every direction. That being the case, some teams wondered aloud why he didn't run the 40 or shuttles. It was long trip for many of the teams who came specifically to watch Jack, and many felt he would've been better off announcing a private workout before today's pro day in which he would participate in everything, as it would've saved some NFL decision-makers a trip across the country. Alex Redmond also had a great position workout, as he looked athletic, smooth and NFL-ready. And while many feel his position work was some of the best of any offensive guard in the run-up to this year's draft, teams wonder what's going on between his ears. Redmond was not reliable at UCLA and often showed up late. There were other issues in school, but the belief is the team that selects him could have a future starter if they get the best out of Redmond. 2016 Pro Day Notes: Tuesday, March 15, 3:50 p.m. By Tony Pauline, Draft Insider UCLA As reported earlier and posted on Twitter, Myles Jack did not test in any of the running events, but did touch 40 inches in the vertical jump and 10-4 in the broad. The running events are over, and the Bruins are finishing up the bench press (reverse from the Combine and most other pro days). Thus far, it's been non-Combine invitee Aaron Wallace who's been the star of the show. His 40 times have been consistently in the low 4.5s (4.51) with a few high 4.4s. He touched 36 inches on the vertical jump and 10-10 on the broad, while also completing 25 reps on the bench. Tight end Thomas Duarte timed in the mid-to-high 4.6s today (4.67). Running back Paul Perkins did not run the 40. |

Rankins still scares me. I see him as maxed out with a low ceiling. what you see is what you get.
Reed still is my guy. plenty of room to bulk up and limited in the bama defense. More to this kid than meets the eye. he appears to be one of the very few with a high ceiling and has more ability to play multiple positions up and down the line than the critics are giving him credit for. I stick by my guns and the scouts have this backwards. Robinson is a position limited and Reed is the flexible one. If Chris Jones interviewed well I would love to see these Reed and Jones make up the DTs for the saints. Adolphus Washington is in the same boat. Interviews Austin Johnson i still like. Kenny Clark is back on my radar But there are some good rotational DT deep into this draft. Vernon Butler, Louisiana Tech is a tease |
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
First five DEs on the list and my ranking.
We can only hope this guy will be available when we pick because the school he plays for and their recent reputation is a big deal and teams know what to expect. Number One Out of all these five I saw he was making the most of getting after the QB. When it comes to the saints, we need someone who can be disruptive not just complimentary. Taking someone who may not have shown everything in college is a risk. I liked what I saw from him, he was constantly able to break loose and knew when to go fast and when to slow down. He's in the first round for sure and will be taken anywhere from 1st-13th. Number Two Noah Spence vs NC State (2015) | Draft Breakdown He showed some things in the first game but in the second I didn't like too much. He had very few good plays. NCSU is considered to be better than Kentucky also offensively. He looked great against Kentucky for half the game but I just don't know if he is worth the risk. He's actually projected to go from mid 1st to 2nd. Number Three Joey Bosa vs Penn State (2015) | Draft Breakdown Joey Bosa vs Notre Dame (2015) | Draft Breakdown Against teams with mobile QBs(which is the strength of our schedule next season), he is not a help imo. Too often he was too fast at times where he would run past the qb. He needs to be able to get after the QB. Also, he was easily contained. I mean if we can see read option QBs and these tough receivers make these big plays then how is he going to help against Cam and Benjamin? I just think he will take half a season to really get going. OSU is very deceptive to prospects and the Big Ten's only teams with any serious weight is OSU, MSU, and Wisconsin. And I thought Bosa's best came against the worst team of those four, Indiana. He's the highest ranked but will he be the first DE actually taken? Number Four DeForest Buckner vs Stanford (2015) | Draft Breakdown DeForest Buckner vs TCU (2015) | Draft Breakdown Just seeing how Oregon looked against MSU was enough. MSU is considered to be one of the better NFL-grooming offenses and that was not Buckner's game. Buckner lacked speed, and could not get around the edge, and was sometimes too tall. And of course he plays for, of all teams, Oregon. Oregon however looked like a dominant defense against TCU but Buckner was okay in that. Again, getting after the qb is what we are looking for. And he's second ranked, but I don't know if that sticks in the draft. Number Five Emmanuel Ogbah vs Ole Miss (2015) | Draft Breakdown Emmanuel Ogbah vs Oklahoma (2015) | Draft Breakdown Emmanuel Ogbah vs Baylor (2015) | Draft Breakdown I was expecting better things and didn't get it. He looked best against Baylor. Treadwell smoked this defense for Ole Miss and that's a bad thing. Of course this is a Big 12 defense and this team lost all three of these games. When you get smoked by systematic offenses like two of these three it is veru concerning. He might be maybe the only defense on the team and maybe dealt with a lot of double teams but whose to say that does not happen with us? Draft Round 1-Lawson Round 2-Spence Maybe Round 1-Bosa Do Not Draft Round 1-Buckner Round 2-Ogbah Dodd is first on the next list and looking forwad to that. I really believe getting Anthony a former teammate could help him out more which is why I want Lawson. |

Tellin' y'all Dodd is the Clemson DE to take, not Lawson; and it's not even close...
Dodd has got size (6' 5". 280 lbs) and versatility to play a 3-4 DE, 4-3 DE or DT... If we moved back in the first round (#20-25), gaining a 2R pick and getting Dodd... ..., wow, now that would be an impressive draft day move...that would be a Jedi move... |

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
Next five and with a overall top ten ranking
Number One Kevin Dodd vs Alabama (2015) | Draft Breakdown Kevin Dodd vs Louisville (2015) | Draft Breakdown Kevin Dodd vs Oklahoma (2015) | Draft Breakdown No surprise as I was expecting it. However, I do not see him better than Lawson. He looked a little skiddish to start against Bama but got better as the game progressed. He was solid against the other two teams. He is rounds 1 to 2. Number Two I just accidentally deleted the links but Jonathan Bullard. He was unimpressive against Alabama but then I saw his Ole Miss and Tennessee videos and those were great. And the Ole Miss comparison to Ogbah was enough for me to move him ahead of him, Buckner, and Bosa. This is one I have a feeling Ireland will get if he's there in third....... Number Three Shilique Calhoun vs Oregon (2015) | Draft Breakdown Shilique Calhoun vs Iowa (2015) | Draft Breakdown He was much better against Iowa compared to Oregon. However, Iowa was not in the same league as Oregon. He made maybe one play against Oregon that was spectacular. He also got hurt in the game and played through pain. I would not draft him without drafting a DE earlier. Number Four Charles Tapper vs Kansas (2015) | Draft Breakdown Unfortunately I probably should not have even bothered. As that was the best clip I could find from last season. The other was ISU but that has been known as the defensive school of the Big 12 not known at all for offense. I have him second to last because he did make some nice plays and had three or four sacks in the Kansas game. Number Five Carl Nassib vs Ohio State (2015) | Draft Breakdown Let's just not even go any further. This was the worst of the bunch. Draft Round 1-Dodd Round 2-Bullard Round 3(as a second DE)-Calhoun Do Not Draft Round 3-Tapper Round 3-Nassib Overall rankings 1.Shaq Lawson, Clemson 2.Noah Spence, WMU 3.Kevin Dodd, Clemson 4.Jonathan Bullard, Florida 5.Joey Bosa, OSU 6.DeForest Buckner, Oregon 7.Emmanuel Ogbah, Oklahoma State 8.Shalique Calhoun, MSU 9.Charles Tapper, OU 10.Carl Nassib, PSU Even if he's second, I would rather skip out on Spence. |
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
Shaq Lawson - Of all the players in the draft he is the number 1 player that impressed me with his off season beauty show. He showed more flexibility with his LB drill than i thought possible. He actually surprise the heck out me posting 4.62 forty. I was expecting more of a 4.80. He is back on my board at 12 because of this and the fact he is one of the best run DE in the draft. Counter moves in pass rush is his thing and that is why I see a lot of Cam in his game. Is he a target at 12? I am not there yet. He is a solid player to settle on IMO. Lawson is a WDE/34OLB.
Dodd at 12 worries me for one reason. His production did not start till DJ Reader returned to the field. That is why DJ is on my radar. To me that says more about DJ and the impact he had on the defense than the stats Dodd was racking up after DJ return. That is also why I look at Lawson in a more favorable light. Teams did not run at Lawson. They rather run at Dodd. Not saying they had much success at either. But when they did pick their poison it was Dodd. The return of Reader changed everything for Dodd. Gotta love this time of the year. one scout says neither can rush the QB. Another says they have the athleticism to be a LB. which is it? That is why I LOL at times. Over scouting, nick picking and second guessing I will be ok if neither ends up saint. If one did I am ok with it also and will sit back and watch things develop. Though the Dodd pick would come with a a bit of a sigh. I want a shot at DJ. At the senior bowl he measured in at 6-foot-3, 340 pounds with a 78-inch wingspan and destroyed everything in front of him. That was his game weight at Clemson 340. Dropping 20 pounds or so for the combine did little to speed him up. Put the weight back on and it will do little to slow him down. Scary part is he is far from a finished product IMO. I think his ceiling is higher than people give him credit for. He is a NT and that is it. Just like Starr is for the panthers. He could end up being a huge steal so late in the draft. A NT you must account for. Now that is something the saints have not had in a long time. Foot Note North of the border, defensive lineman David Onyemata, who looked tremendous in spots during East-West Shrine week, performed for 17 NFL teams at the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. Onyemata completed 33 reps on the bench (arm length 33 1/4 inches), posted a vertical jump of 33 inches, a broad jump of 9-11 and ran the 40 in 5.06 seconds at 300 pounds. The New Orleans Saints and Philadelphia Eagles put Onyemata through defensive line drills. |

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
Would love to see either one at 12 or hell trade our 1st next year and get them both:
Jarran Reed - DT, Alabama Reed was a two-year starter for the Crimson Tide. He lines up at both defensive end and nose tackle in the 'Bama 3-4 defense. This is a dominant run defender. He easily locks out blockers over his nose and he can also hold his ground vs. the double team. He is always on his feet and he will also flash the quickness to penetrate and play on the other side of the line of scrimmage. He has tremendous range because of his quickness and effort. As a pass rusher, he can push the pocket with his power and he flashes a quick arm-over as well. Overall, Reed is impossible to move in the run game and I believe he has upside as an interior pass rusher. A'Shawn Robinson - DT, Alabama Robinson was a two-year starter at defensive tackle for the Crimson Tide. He has outstanding height, bulk and athleticism for the position. Against the run, he uses his length and strength to stack blockers and holds the point of attack. His pad level is too high at times but he's still strong enough to resist angle blocks and double teams. His effort is solid. As a pass rusher, he flashes an explosive first step as well as an effective slap/swim move. Overall, Robinson has all of the tools to be a dominant three-down presence but he hasn't put it all together yet. His best football is ahead of him. |
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
I like Reed more, but wouldn't be upset with either pick. They both have areas to improve upon, but so does every other prospect in the draft.

That's why guys like Jarran Reed or Kevin Dodd or my under-the-radar guy BYU's Bronson Kaufusi are ideal and will quickly find a starting role on this defense... |

Very good against the run. I could see the Pats selecting him on day 2 of the draft. SLEEPER pick. |
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
I'm re-reviewing DTs now and seeing them side by side, I actually like Reed more than Robinson. Reed is quicker, Reed pushed through better, Reed had more disruptive plays against Georgia and Clemson. I stand by my original opinion on Rankins.
|
Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............
1-4 out of four in my review of DTs.
1.Jerran Reed 2.A'Shawn Robinson 3.Andrew Billings 4.Sheldon Rankins Billings is bigger and stronger than the other three. But I also saw too much falling down. I just don't think he has the technique yet. Rankins? I just was not impressed. He could hold olinemen yes but his speed was not there in in-game action. I looked at Louiseville, FSU, and NCSU regarding him. |
