Listen, Nick is a super talented player and our defense can use a few above average interior lineman. If the price is right, I'm sure the Saints FO will pull the trigger. I recall coming out of Auburn he appeared to be dirty at times but never a locker room distraction (I'm sure SloMo can chime in on his playing days in Detroit). We need some more big nasties on that D line.

having a weight clause in your contract shows his character, I've heard stories he would take plays off too ...... sounds like a certain bust who's name isn't mentioned that back when the Saints were dumb enough to trade up for

Overall, disappointing first day of free agency. A lot of the players I hoped we would make a run at got signed to other teams for reasonable deals. Made no real moves to address the major holes we have on defense, it can't all be done in the draft and there isn't a ton of talent left in free agency.

I'm just sick and tired of the front office fielding a Porsche on offense but the defense must settle for a used yugo

Major...

We still taking it in the a$$ with Loomis' premature Galette contract...

The reward is not remotely close to the risk of going through all of that again...

We needed a quality defensive end and/or a nose tackle at the least before the draft...

Robert Ayers? Raji ? Clayborn? Chris Long? Who you got JP?

Slim pickings at those positions right now. Nick is a very good 3 tech. IF you can get him cheap (I don't see him getting more than 3M a year), I'm all in. This would be way better than signing a guy for 7-8 M only to show a lot of suckage with our historically bad defense.

Side note: Ayers is on his way to Tampa for a visit.

Good mornin' everyone! Day 2 of free agency is upon us! It's all about the D-Line now. All of the good guards are gone except for Evan Mathis so it looks like we'll be rolling out some combo of a draft pick, Lelito and Kelemete. Plenty of serviceable DT's and DE's left so let's hope for some good news!

Who is on your short list Chris? I'm getting roasted on the thought of bringing in Fairley on the cheap so I'd like to know who else is available that can somehow add a "fire" to our D.

Thoughts?

I like Cameron as well but I wonder if he is 100% healthy & still has that burst?

There are a few guys on the defensive side I can see that could help like possibly Hendry Melton Cullen Jenkins Courtney Upshaw and I'm also at the point where our defense has been so awful in recent years I'd almost consider to hell with the risk of character we nasty mean guys I'd almost consider bringing in Greg hardy or even Aldon Smith I'm that desperate to have someone actually get to the opposition"s qb I really don't give a scrap if they are thugs that deserve to be in chains

I haven't read much about him being a locker room problem. He has a reputation for disappearing at times on the field, but he probably learned that from Ndrama-king Suh.

I'd be fine with him here.

Of course, the other part of the pie was signing NT Damon Harrison; that could allow you to kick out someone to DE as a big anchor-type, 5-tech type...

Then you could let these young perimeter pass rushers attack from the edge or stunt underneath...

Major, don't believe we should compound a bad situation by making the same mistake we made with Junior by bringing in someone who can't grow up, act like a professional and play hard regardless if it's a contract year or naught...

I just question the forward thinking, planning for this team with regards to personnel, contractual commitments...

Sure, many things can change each season, but we've got no long term management to really allow us that room we need to correct problems without losing a season or two because of bad contracts...

You know what? Looking back over the list of DT's that are left is pretty underwhelming. I'd like to bring in Nick Fairley... But it just makes me a little nervous. He's really our only hope though of getting a DT that isn't just a 2 down run stopper. I can't really think of any others who would boost our interior pass rush.

Chris Long to the Falcons?!? Wow, wonder what's happening in the front office right now...

We either need to bulk Jenkins back up as a Nose Tackle or sign one...

And we need a big defensive end to anchor opposite Cam Jordan...

Would never roast you my brother...

Roasted, hang out with me this past week when express freight ends up on the left coast and customers are screaming for your blood...

With regards to Fairley, I'd rather spin this into a undrafted free agent recruiting gig for the Saints and not having his troubles or him blocking a young, hungry kid from the roster...

How about bringing back Al Woods? He's done pretty well at times recently.

Falcons have released DT Paul Soliai; would he be worth a look? I kind of assume not, I mean getting released from a defense that was even worse than ours...

Probably to "push" Spiller this year.

Spiller did look good when he came back last season.

Which free agents are out there to sign for the lines who will fit within our salary cap? And be an upgrade...
