Free Agent Tight Ends & HUGE upgrades over what we have in the building now.

I would love adding Gesicki, but I doubt that's possible.

I'd rather keep Williams in the building that spending on any of the TE or WR
You can replace them in the draft easier than finding a Safety that can do what Marcus can.

If we can work a long term deal with Williams it can be structured in a way where the 2022 hit can be minimal and keep plenty of room for free agents such as a WR and/or TE.

Re: 2021 NFL Free Agency: New Orleans Saints

Said this before, prior to reworking the Ramczyk and Thomas contracts, the Saints can regain $100M in cap space fully converting those contracts that can be reworked...

So, we can gain about ~$23M in cap space for this fiscal year; that said, I prefer the team start working the team's cap structure to minimize how much is rolled forward...

That way we're not in a situation where we're losing Trey Hendrickson or Vonn Bell; though Sean signed old, slow, coverage liability Malcolm Jenkins to replace Vonn Bell...

So we could easily have room for Marcus Williams and maybe another key acquisition like a WRz or a TE; and even those contracts could be structured team cap friendly...

Per Dr. James Andrews medical team, mid to late Sept … unless there are any set backs.

Same goes for Dallas WR & Free Agent Michael Gallup.

Yeah, heard the same. I just can't see us waiting until September to make a move on a free agent WR. At least not one that can be counted on as part of the foundation of the WR corps. Sure, a deal could be made contingent on a successful recovery, but that's taking a gamble on losing out on healthy options available as soon as March 16th, the beginning of the free agent cycle.

Seems likes there are more viable FA options at WR than there are at
other offense positions (RB, QB, TE)..all of which the team needs help at. I can see a FA signing there as good investment. Godwin included.

The premium will be good to elite offensive linemen, and you're only getting those in the draft this year, especially with the limited cap room...

There are some additions that could be made to WR that would more than improve what we have now and with a flooded FA market, at a cap friendly price...

And if we miss on a WR in the first round, then we're really in a bind...

But I agree, we've got to address WR in both FA and Draft, just not convinced we got to do it in the draft on Day 1; especially when we've been better on WR on Day 2...

And I get the frustration of why so many want to get it done on Day 1, but I'm not sold on some of the Day 1 grades on some of these WRs when they were exposed in bowl games...

Jarvis was dawg, right in our backyard coming out of college ... now (injuries) not so much.

The 2014 Saints draft class (minus Brandin Cooks) was horrible.

Both Landry and Allen Robinson were still on the board in Rd 2.

Our scouts/coaches thought better of it and drafted a dud from Nebraska with the french name

But I digress.

Looking at TA numbers, his dead cap is 13M if he leaves.

All the more reason to work out a deal with him and keep him. He's still an elite LT.

It's dead money no matter - time to get younger, faster, stronger, available linemen in the draft that won't cost as much...

Their scouts probably see the pool of talent (2022 combine) @ WR & came to their senses.

Amari is expensive.

Cooper's $100 million five year contract has straight base salaries of $20 each of his last four years. There are no roster bonuses as part of the $100 million. No workout bonuses. It appears that the base salary isn't written with a team unilateral conversion option.

These are all common components used by Harley and Loomis in the average Saints contract construction giving the easy ability to readily free cap when needed. With the same $100 million outlay they have the ability to reduce that $20 million cap hit with a simple restructure in year three and retain the player with only a $7 million cap hit freeing up $13 million. On the other hand, the Cowboys may be forced to release the player while still taking a $6 million cap in in dead money from his initial $10 million signing bonus. They only free up $14 million in cap AND lose the player.

All the details are here on Spotrac.

Not sure why anyone would trade or sign a highly paid WR1 these days.
The talent available in Rounds 1-3 of the draft is just too good, especially with rookie cap numbers. |Don't get me wrong if you have alot of great players inc a QB on a rookie deal then do it, but for 60% of the league why

The good thing about guys like Amari Cooper being released is that the market for WRs is going to be even more flooded and that will drive down signing costs...
