We could rework his contract to make it possible for more free agency, but it would hamper the quality we could target greatly. He carries a $35 million salary and a $5.4 million signing bonus proration for 2022 as it stands right now. Houston will also take a $51 million cap hit in dead money with any trade now.

In other words, we'd have to micro-manage the cap, that thing you say doesn't matter.

Interesting...

This is what’s kind of a bummer. We could re-structure his contract AFTER trading for him, but until that point we have to keep the cap space available to fit him in. This likely means no free agent signings. If we don’t pull off the trade for Watson, Jameis Winston will probably be long gone.

When I looked at it it said up to $25 million could be saved by restructuring Watson’s contract. I’m guessing we could even extend him and spread some of that money out. I wouldn’t be concerned about the cap too, too much. Mickey Loomis keeps showing us it’s more of a nuisance for him than a barricade.

Figured he'd take care of Gallup. He was a baller well BEFORE the unfortunate ACL injury.

Same draft, same year, same round as Trequan Smith ... who will probably be searching for employment elsewhere as we enter the 2022 NFL season.

So out of Carolina and Saints, who could put up the most attractive trade package for Planet Houston?

Keep in mind, Carolina starts at 8th this year, Saints at 18th...

I for one would be really, really surprised if Watson chooses to sign in Carolina.

Matt Rhule & the Hedge Fund billionaire owner seem clueless right now running a NFL franchise.

I've been wrong before though :brood:

And that may be why they overpay for Watson.

The Saints must bring in another quality wide receiver(s) this off season.

Chark, Fuller, Landry, Robinson, Kirk, Green etc ... whatever.

And of course the draft :bng:.

Awesome for the Bengals.

Happy Joe Burreaux if finally getting some protection...

With the exception of RT Riley Reiff, that Bengals offensive line is as bad as what Taysom had to deal with late in the season...

Make the call to Jarvis Landry. He's looking for a new home.

Again, you need proven guys not named Michael Thomas at WR.

Route runners, difference makers, proven blockers, dawgs who can get open in crunch.

Just thinking of Plan C ...

What if we miss out on the Watson AND Winston "sweepstakes".

Then what? Jimmy G? Marriota perhaps?

He'd be good for the younger WRs; teams will likely let him sit a while so his market doesn't get too hot...
