Must be eating too much ice cream with Nancy Pelosi … Grandiose cutting edge nonsense coming out of Bay Area.

As of this morning ... plenty of space to make several moves.

Re: 2021 NFL Free Agency: New Orleans Saints

With the retirement of Malcolm, Saints now need a starting SS.

Tyrann M perhaps?

papz 03-30-2022 09:06 AM

Re: 2021 NFL Free Agency: New Orleans Saints

Well Tyrann is at LSU for the entire week so we certainly have the opportunity to woo him if we want.

Deep safety draft as well.

Re: 2021 NFL Free Agency: New Orleans Saints

Saints will likely make decisions on extensions for Gardner and Davenport, using cap space this year, less rookie pool, to make space for next season...

Per Over the Cap, Tre'Quan was going have a near $1M dollar dead money hit which is why he was likely re-signed to gain some flexibility...

We've yet to see true cap numbers for 2023 when it's expected to really jump, but based on projections, we're ~$33M+ over the cap for next year...

Malcolm Jenkins' cap number is just north of $5.1M this year and next, so with his retirement, we should recover some relief there to be used to extend Gardner...

Re: 2021 NFL Free Agency: New Orleans Saints

Had hoped we could bring back Emmanuel Sanders, but with recent, necessary signings, and leaving cap space for the rookie pool, that may not happen...

That's too bad considering what Sanders could bring, his familiarity with our offense and clubhouse, and what he could offer in leadership to our rookies...

Spotrac has us at $21.342 Million under the top 51 cap at the moment. That's more than enough for Sanders, Mathieu, a couple of other free agents, AND the full rookie pool.

Ceedy has his idea about the starting safety duo.

Looks like the Honey Badger is open to the idea.

I'd sure feel better about this roster if we had P.J. Williams and Emmanuel Sanders on the roster going into the draft...

The “money” is probably the main issue with Tyrann.

Saints front office have shown that they have a certain number that they are comfortable with and don’t budge off of that.

Personally I don’t see us in the mix for his services which would be unfortunate.

Totally agree with Rez that Tyrann Mathieu is a game changer for the back end of your defense and would energize #WhoDatNation, but as Major points out Saints FO have a salary slot number...

And it's not just the Saints, Mathieu has taken several good meetings with teams and come away without a contract - most of the time that suggests it's the asking price...

We're all awaiting to see if the new mistress for DA is LSU or if it remains Ohio St.

Well if so, then that’s where this “salary slot” is hurting them IMO. I would have gladly not signed Smith and spent that money to increase the money to safety. Same with with Sorensens contract. the two players I want are Honey Badger and Melvin Gordon. With that I’d feel good about going into draft. Then OT/WR/DL are picks 1-3.

IMO this is “THE” year to select a “THEE OHIO ST” player in the draft.

Specifically at WR :p.

Plus one for Honey Badger, but I'd liked Melvin Mack...
