I'd like to try and get Derek Carr

this is a discussion within the Saints Community Forum; Why are the Raiders letting him go? I'm still trying to figure out how could an injured Winston give you a better chance of winning, third game, than a healthy Dalton. However a healthy Winston gives you a lesser chance ...

Because a healthy Winston sucks more and can read the defense even worse than a washed up healthy Dalton. Lol.

Because Jarrett Stidham has a higher QB rating for them last year than he did. Yeah I know he was on the Raiders so that's his excuse just like it was Dennis Allen's. Fun fact, the 2022 Raiders had Davante Adams. Fun fact #2, Jarrett Stidham is also played for the Raiders in 2022. Fun fact #3, Davante Adams had similar stats with the Raiders in 2022 to his stats with the Packers in 2020 and 2021, he is a great player and didn't need an excuse. Derek Carr got the weapon he had always been missing to take the next step, and his next step was backwards. Some other QBs with higher rating than Derek Carr in 2022 include: Desmond Ridder, Marcus Mariota, Sam Darnold, Bailey Zappe, Taylor Heinicke, Matt Stafford Senior Edition, Jacoby Brissett, and of course Andy Dalton. But yeah, lets give the guy $30 million a year, and guarantee him like $50 million, because its not a fair comparison, because teams like the Falcons, Redskins, Panthers, Saints, and Browns are stacked offenses with genius coordinators where anyone would succeed, whereas Josh McDaniels and Davante Adams have never really been associated with offenses that are very productive for the QB.

It's been a long time since I've posted, but I've been lurking this whole time.

Would you guys approve of, and do you think Baltimore would take, 2024, 2026, 2028 1s, and 1st round pick swaps and 2s in 2025 and 2027 for Lamar?

I know any big move like this is unlikely.

Only picks for the next three draft cycles can be traded. So at this time only picks for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 drafts are eligible for trade. Once the 2023 draft is underway, however, 2026 picks become eligible for trade.

And, no, I wouldn't consider anything like that for Jackson. While he is dynamic, his style of play scares me. I can see him missing tons of time moving forward due to injury.

Those NBA type trades wouldn't work in the NFL. It's franchise crippling having to give up that type of compensation and hand out the contract he's looking for. You need to be able to field a larger competitive team. That studs and duds strategy wouldn't work. 2-3 stars on an NBA roster can get you deep in the playoffs. It wouldn't work for the long term viability of an NFL franchise IMO not being able to supplement those players with cheaper high end talent(those draft picks). That Russell Wilson trade was really something else and quite rare to see happen.

Can it work for a season or two? Sure. You would have to be on top of your game at every aspect of your coaching, player development, and scouting. That's not us right now.

Everyone is entitled to be stupid, but some abuse the privilege.

All little common sense goes a long way.

Exactly right. That's why giving up picks for players ( the 2'fers) always pi$$ed me off. We haven't drafted a so called game changer on the D line at all. Even moving up to get Ingram was a bad move but Payton has always had an ego trip on draft day. Allen has done the same thing his 1st year. Now we're scratching for a quality qb., holes in the O and D with no quality depth. I would trade a few players to help shore up some positions and acquire draft picks for this draft and next. Kamara for two 2nd rounders, Davis for a 2nd,rounder Jordan i(getting long in the tooth) 2nd rounder, Peat for a 7th, I let Thomas walk. There are teams that I feel would give us these picks for these players and allow us to acquire draft capital to help strenghten up the team.

Re: I'd like to try and get Derek Carr

This all sounds good on paper but that’s assuming that all the draft picks work out. What happens if they don’t? Then you’ve let go of some known talent to replace with some average players. Our drafting has been good lately, but we still don’t hit on all of them. That’s my main concern. That’s why I want to eventually get out of our cap situation to be able to sign some quality FAs. They don’t always work out either, but I like my odds better with that than relying solely on the draft.

Edit- this is to Halloween’s post.
