The Davis trade was completely different in that the player had to go where traded. He didn't have the choice. In the case of Payton, he makes the decision where he wants to go.
Body language says it all.

SP does NOT decide how big the/his trade value is, despite his veiled lobbying. He DOES decide if and where he wants to continue his coaching career, as he tried we now know previously with Miami. With this track record in mind, it wouldn't be shocking if we were to find out this same thing may have happened even before the Miami scandal. Gail Benson needs to put her foot down and request Miami's now taken by RG 2023 #1 draft pick as compensation for the tampering.

You're pissing in the wind on that one, Smash. LOL!

And everyone, including Payton, knows he has no bearing on his trade value. I'm afraid you are imagining his lobbying. It's not there.

Sure... sure... SP didn't try to go to Miami.
I guaran-damn-tee you if he was able to get Mahomes here and KC does not get him, SP is NOT getting the hell outta dodge.

I know it's a hard reality for some, but SP has been trying to leave for longer than we can fathom to imagine.

He didn't get the GB gig and settled for the Saints. Parcels convinced him to seize an opportunity to turn around a downtrodden franchise. He's following the Parcels playbook, except it's taken him longer to move on than he's really wanted. We're grateful as fans for the one trophy we got. We really should have had more if he knows the rulebook like BB, or the SF TE is covered better in 2011.

Who knows. That may all be true. But none of it has any relevance to what the Saints can honestly expect in compensation for rights to Payton.

Depends on how crafty Loomis is, neaux? If he's as crafty as he was with the Pelicans in the Davis trade, we'll be sitting pretty. The beauty of it is he can play hardball for another year. Just how badly does Denver really want SP? Just how badly does SP wanna get paid 20-25 million a year? He was purportedly to get a 4 year $100 contract in Miami.

Loomis and Gayle Benson need to ensure they are getting properly compensated for the Miami situation. No one is really talking about it, but it should be much more in the forefront.

Nobody is talking about it because it is a done deal. It has already been dealt with.

As for compensation, I hope you are right, but comparing the compensation for a player with no say in the matter to that for Payton who has total say for where he wants to go is comparing apples to fence posts.

That's open for debate too on whether it's a done deal too. That's the very purpose of our discussions here, to debate and pontificate.

We can't have a Ceedy Deuce type of trade, period. We'll see if Loomis comes through.

Ceedy Duce was causing problems. I believe they would have cut him outright if they couldn't find a trade partner. When he started refusing to practice his days were numbered.

I did some research on the NFL tampering rules when this was all going on, Smash. The bylaws stated that the league could levy fines and/or dock the franchise implicated in tampering draft picks. I posted that all somewhere here months ago. The rules do not, however, allow for any awarding of compensation or such to a team that has been tamped with. It is a done deal unless the bylaws are changed and then it will only apply to occurrences moving forward.

Maybe, but we've seen RG buck whatever rules he wants.
