I really don't see it and I don't think Payton does either, despite what he's said publicly. Taysom is a great guy and a really good athlete, but he is not and almost certainly never will be a starting caliber QB. I know a few folks here think that he just needs time and experience, but I don't believe it's that simple. If it were then the list of failed QB's wouldn't be so long. So many were given years as starters and never developed. And those guys didn't take years off to do missionary work and then come back to the sport later in life. I love Taysom and I love that he has so many roles on this team, but starting QB will never be one of them. Payton knows this, and he knows that Teddy is capable of taking over this team and keeping us relevant for years to come. I'd rather not see us fall back into QB purgatory for...possibly decades, and if we let Teddy go then we're staring it in the face in the very near future.

Alright so we have Jared Cook, Ziggy Ansah and Mario Edwards coming in for visits. I didn’t know Mario Edwards was from Gautier, MS. He’d probably like to come back home.

Yep. I lived in Gautier for about 8 years. His dad is from here and played for the Cowboys.

So you move Mr. Marcus to SS? How much are we gonna have to spend on Berry? Not sure that's viable...

Don't be surprised if Coleman is right back here at a cheaper number...

Saints Front Office are trusting the PFF-type analytics and believe Vonn Bell's is trending up, despite very shaky, inconsistent pass coverage...

Wonderful, another old, broke-down Tight End who can't run, play more than fifteen percent of the snaps a game, and will fade by the fourth quarter of the regular season...

I’d move Mr. Marcus to the bench for Eric Berry. I saw an improvement from Bell...I really did...but I feel like we could definitely upgrade both spots.

He had a career year last year. He looked really good in the games I saw him in. I think it would be a solid pick up for us. I don’t really know what other options we have.

So in the case of PFF Graders, you'd say they got it wrong in 2018 when Mr. Marcus gets 70.28 grade on the year and Berry got a 62.4?

Don't mis-read me, I'm not saying PFF is an absolute (I often take them to task via Twitter to justify their grade); I've always liked Berry and his game (when healthy), but at age 29???

And while Mr. Marcus showed some regression vs his outstanding rookie season where he was ranked as a Top 3 safety - I'd stay with the younger Mr. Marcus and look at coaching, scheme of Dennis Allen...

Personally I'd love'd to have locked up the secondary with a big physical Strong Safety who could mirror TEs or WR-X in the red zone, or something fierce like a Honey Badger...

With today's cap and the Saints always playing right up against it, there's just no room to go and make any big splashes - we'll have to temper our expectations...

Yeah, but Rez, Who did Carr have to throw to last season? Crabtree was sent packing and Coop sulked till he got traded to Dallas?

WhiteBread Kittle in San Fran caught more TD passes and did more damage, and with Garoppolo out, and Cook could only get 6 ReTDs in Oakland?

Gettin' old sucks, but when you hit that 3-0, it's a b*tch! Even Brees sittin' in the pocket having watched film five days a week with your arse in the seat for 5am is gettin limited...

I think those PFF grades are pretty accurate for both players. Eric Berry looked like a guy who was trying to get back into football shape. I think that rust will be gone this upcoming season. Elite safeties like him play at a high level for a long time. I agree though, the cap definitely restricts us. We have to shop in the bargain bin. Who knows though, Berry might come cheaper than we think.

Well, that's the thing though - Tight Ends and Safeties were suppose to be cheap this year because of a flooded FA market and draft depth...

Then Baltimore went and paid a third-string TE $6mil/annum and you got teams like the Raiders and Titans blowing the safety market out of the water...

Mickster/Payton calculus was like everyone else and still have realized you gotta keep that draft capital for a backup plan...

Eventually the undrafted free agency gemstone mine is gonna run outta gems...

JP,

Saints are running out of options at TE. Arnold, Hill's ... not good enough right now. Jared is solid and can make plays. I can see why the Saints have him in for a visit.

If the price is right, he's our guy.

Major, I understand Brother, but Cook is not going to be any better than we already have - he was the only target in the Raiders Passing Game the entire season last year and only produced 6 ReTD's...

Here's the thing, Taylor Stallworth is the only, THE ONLY, Defensive Tackle, not just DT3, but all DTs, that'll likely be available the first four weeks of the season...

Short of trades and hitting on every draft pick, we've got to shore the line up first are we're gonna get Cam burnt up using him inside or continuing to play him maximum snaps...

Nice.

Brown was solid in NE. Very good against the run & eats up space on double teams. 1st round pedigree and fills a position of need on the D line.

Welcome to New Orleans Malcom.

That’s pretty nice! Guess it means Tyeler Davison is moving on though.

Re: 2019 Saints NFL Free Agency

Beasley only got $10.7mil guaranteed of the $20mil he sought...

It breaks down as - $6mil signing bonus; Base Salaries: 2019 - $2.2mil, 2020 - $4.4mil, 2021 - $4.7mil, 2021 - $4.9mil; Roster bonuses - 2019 - $2.5mil, 2020 though 2020 - $500K...

This trend may help should we be really seeking Golden Tate - who's preference is to play indoors on turf where he's at his best...

Possibly, but not necessarily - it all depends on what Tyeler's trying to get paid...

While Malcolm actually played next to the Right Defensive End, they used a slightly different gap assignment, so we may see something like that till we have the Big "O" and Rankins back...

Idk guys, Brown has some pretty mediocre numbers during his seasons with the Pats, and while he seems to be solid against the run - he doesn't seem to be able push the pocket.

More analysis from John Sigler on the Malcolm Brown signing...

One of the things that I do like about this signing is his SuperBowl experience...

In fairness, there aren't many DT's who can consistently push the pocket. Generally speaking, you're mainly looking for them to be good run stuffers and capable of eating up blockers to free up the guys around them. I like the signing personally. I kinda hoped we'd draft him when he came out. Seems like a good price too.

True. Not every DT is Aaron Donald.
