No secret that "Thee" Ohio State is the Saints farm system ...
I wouldn't rule out drafting any player coming from this school as long as Sean is HC. |
Re: 2020 NFL Draft: Saints Prospects
Small school and player many have never heard of ... Antonio Gandy-Golden - Liberty
Big size (something SP likes) & can go get the 50/50 ball. |
Re: 2020 NFL Draft: Saints Prospects
Players I'm liking
Rd1 Shane Lemieux (got to show some love with that last name) G Oregon 6'4 317 speed 5.10 get him up to speed, should be good to go. Rd3 Standford Samual lll cb Florida State 6'2 185 press cb, to relieve Lattimore and or hopefull Jenkins ( super cheap back-up) Rd4 Ke'Shawn Vaughn RB Vanderbilt 5'10 215 4.57 powerback ( look at the yards after contact) could be the steal of the draft at rb. Rd5 Harrison Bryant TE Florida Atlantic 6'5 4.74 complement to Cook and can actually catch the damn ball Rd 6 Jaylin Hawkins S California 6'2 205 ( my dark horse) 4.59 Ballhawk we need to play single high Setting up for a stout intermediate game for Brees and the O and shoring up a possible #1 backfield in the game. |

If you haven't been paying attention Sean Payton has a "thing" about TE'S. The problem is he out thinks himself all the time. Tampa Bay has a starting TE and a young back up QB because of it! A waiver-wire claim 10 days before Arizona’s 38-24 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, Arnold made his debut and caught a six-yard touchdown in the back of the end zone just before the end of the first half. Dan Arnold? Remember him? |
Re: 2020 NFL Draft: Saints Prospects
I read that Clemson star RB Etienne has opted to return to college for his senior season.
|
Re: 2020 NFL Draft: Saints Prospects
"Viska" is built like Deebo Samuels. Saw him a few times in high school (Desoto, TX) playoffs and he played a lot of RB. Versatile player and is a good pass catching WR.
Could fall to Day 2 or 3. |

Still say it was a mistake not keeping Cyril Grayson on the roster; his speed caught the DBs attention, and he'd at least pull one DB off of Michael Thomas... |

Would it hurt to draft another dawg Gator (CGJ) ? 2 CJs on the same team?
CJ Henderson - CB Florida |
Re: 2020 NFL Draft: Saints Prospects
Did they play together in the secondary? If so, bump up CJ Henderson - CB Florida to rejoin CGJ.
Just about everyone agrees chemistry matters in a unit or subunit...secondary coverage, OL, QB-Receivers. Why not factor that (more) in the Draft? I noticed a few years back NE drafted 3 from Rutgers secondary and that worked pretty well Why not seeing that with a OT-G, G-C, WR-QB, secondary? It's a "copy cat league" so why aren't others copying? |

Don't kill the messenger ... just throwing out prospects. Either this year or next, the Saints will have to address the future at QB.

Re: 2020 NFL Draft: Saints Prospects
One issue I see with the Saints is that since winning the SB in 2009 we can field an offense or a defense, but not both. During the dregs of the 7-9s the offense was cruising while the D SUCKED. Then as we focussed on building up the D our since then the offense has been slipping. Yes, Brees is not what he once was but I see a considerable amount of his "slippage" coming in the form of a lack of receivers that don't have the twitter handle of cantguardmike and an offensive line that has been really struggling. Our once dominant screen game was non-existent this year, mostly due to the fact that the O line couldn't get there before the LBs and DBs did. Every screen was a naked screen, but not by design.
If you look at this year's losses, they were mostly due to below average performance of the O line and the D's penchant for blowing it in the last two minutes of the game or OT. |

Well, Jalen Hurts is definitely play up his entire college career...

Re: 2020 NFL Draft: Saints Prospects
This is my favorite WR in the draft, wouldn't mind trading back into Day 2, pick up an add'l Day 2 pick and taking this guy at the Top of Round 2...
Started the video where he's matched up vs THE Ohio State, and well, he snags this with one of the prettiest catches I've seen vs the buckeyes secondary... Go back to the beginning and watch all the highlights, preferably on a large monitor; This is the closest prospect comparison I could make to Steve Smith in quite some time... He tracks the deep ball better than anyone in this draft, he's got a gear no one else has, small guy who patiently waits and then opens his catch radius at the last moment... |
Re: 2020 NFL Draft: Saints Prospects
Love this play by JR as it demonstrates his YAC ability, awareness of the first down marker, and just as quickly gets out of bounds...
|
Re: 2020 NFL Draft: Saints Prospects
Jalen R is a burner. I'd like him too. "Z" receiver.
What I like about him is that despite his size (5-10, 5'11), when the ball is in the air, he goes and gets it. Something Ginn/Tre hadn't done to help out our QB in 2019. We need speed & he's a threat. For whatever reason, we kicked Cyril Grayson (ridiculous speed/stretches the field) to the curb. I'll be honest though, Sean P isn't going to draft this kid. What Brees needs right now is a taller, 50/50 guy who can win most of those battles. |
Re: 2020 NFL Draft: Saints Prospects
Ben Bredeson - OG MICHIGAN
For whatever reason, YouTube doesn't like to highlight the big fella's who get it done in the trenches. He's a mauler and has great hands with technique. Not a sexy pick but he's a Day 1 starter in the NFL. |
Re: 2020 NFL Draft: Saints Prospects
I listened at a recent Jeremiah and Brooks pod cast the other day ...
They keep saying how the 2020 WR prospects are far superior to that 2014 Draft class so I went back to look at the names. Mike Evans Sammy Watkins Odell Beckham Jr. Brandin Cooks Davante Adams Allen Robinson Jarvis Landry John Brown .. most would argue that this list is full of bona fide #1's. YIKES !!! Based on years past, one of the 2020 studs could fall to us. Tee Higgins, Jefferson, Reagor or even CeeDee Lamb. I'd be elated if we got any one of these young difference makers. |

I know right? This draft is loaded at WR. We are all going to be so stressed if Payton/Loomis don't draft this position. |
Re: 2020 NFL Draft: Saints Prospects
Quote:
We've got to stretch the field vertically to open those passing lanes, make the buckets larger for Drew Brees; I mean, it's not like we're gonna line up and smash the ball downfield with our offensive line... |

Re: 2020 NFL Draft: Saints Prospects
Quote:
Because of his height, he may still be there in Round 2, so it'd be a helluva gamble to try and pick up another pick; the consensus grading puts him somewhere between picks no. 32 and no. 45... And KMajor rightfully illuminates that Brees likes those big catch radii of long WRs, which attributes to his accuracy, but if Reagor were 6' 2", doing what he's doing, he'd be a Top 5 pick... After all is said and done, Payton is a system coach, probably why he's foolishly hung on to Ginn for so long 'cause the only other player with his attributes, we had to trade for Ramczyk, ultimate love/hate move... |

Interesting list. I'm feeling pretty meh about the Alabama WR's and Higgins IMO isn't physical enough for the next level. There will certainly be good WR's further down based on such varying opinions on the WR crop. Given that mock, I'd actually be tempted to take JK Dobbins at #24. |

Couple of twitter reports from the Senior Bowl... |
Re: 2020 NFL Draft: Saints Prospects
Tyler Johnson WR - Minnesota
Good route (some scouts claim he's the best) runner, not a burner but excels with YAC. |
Re: 2020 NFL Draft: Saints Prospects
John Simpson OG Clemson
Projected to be a Day 2/3 draft selection. ---------------------------------------------- Johah Jackson OG The Ohio State 1st round Not many videos showcasing their talents in the trenches. |
Re: 2020 NFL Draft: Saints Prospects
Maybe in 2020, Saints scouts go find the next Jahri Evans &/or Bushrod.
These two maulers were very instrumental in that 2009 SB Championship team. We were moving men against their will with that dominant O line. |

While some rate him higher, I see him as a fourth round value; but that lack of physicality reminds me of someone we've got on the roster already... |
Re: 2020 NFL Draft: Saints Prospects

IMO the two most IMPORTANT pieces for 2020 and Brees is GUARD and #2 WR who can win the 50/50 ball. Maybe the bigger (6'2 or greater), stronger, all hands team is what the doctor ordered. Can Emmanuel Sanders be that dude this season? At time Ginn and Tre simply didn't want it. I forget which game it was where Smith took a shot & had his helmet knocked off ... gotta wonder if he's having second thoughts on battling defenders on those 50/50 opportunities? Alligator arms. Less finesse and more physicality? Vikings really slapped us around up front. |
