You’re assuming a lot there. To start, you’re assuming that advertising and programming today is centered to drive revenue or sell products. There is more propaganda in programming today than anything else. Considering the media across the country is controlled by less than 3% of the population.... but I digress.

As for being a minority, yes I am indeed that. I have, and my people have been a minority for hundreds if not thousands of years.

We are getting off topic a bit—

Streaming is all ad captured, the legal stream services at least. You’re right it’s contracted and I stated that, but I also read that some media companies are able to recoup lost revenue they had amounted to 2.3 billion for the year.

What has really hurt the media companies this year was the lack of fresh programming. All production shut down through the first four to five months of the pandemic. I've got some friends who are actors and their job streams completely dried up. One does quite a few major commercials and those were even cut way back. Regular primetime programming production shut down. The usual spring and summer sports schedules had all been postponed. They didn't have ad worthy programming until sports started gearing back up in late summer. There's little doubt that the NFL has accounted for a larger percentage of their overall revenues than ever before. That isn't going to go unnoticed when the next round of contracts come around.

Mark Ingram is going to get released. Do we get him back cheap and let Murray walk?

Does he have anything left in the tank? Sign a young, explosive UDFA RB or take one on the late rounds...

Murray is a luxury we can no longer afford...

He rushed for a thousand yards year before last

Running Back years are different than most people's years. He's probably in his forties by now.

Agreed, cap wise it makes the most sense. Trade who you can trade stock up on draft choices and go from there.

We sure as hell could have used him on Sunday.

Like JP alluded to earlier, Murray is set to count 4M against the cap.

Saints need top value any way they can right now.

These 21 Saints are set to be free agents in 2021 offseason:

The New Orleans Saints’ season came to a sudden end, forcing fans and observers to shift gears towards an unpleasant offseason. There’s a long list of free agents to contend with in 2021, and that doesn’t even get into the potential salary cap casualties — that’s a problem for another time.

Here is my short list of guys who can walk in 2021 FA ..

Anzalone
P.J. Williams
Jared Cook
Craig Robertson
Ty Montgomery
Bennie Fowler
Ken Crawley
Jordan Humphrey

I'd like to somehow retain Sheldon Rankins on the cheap.

On the fence with Trey Hendrickson. Tread carefully throwing the bank on a over performing player in a contract year.

Get folks bashing on him at times, but that's a myopic view - he plays a number of positions for us and while not an elite player at those positions, overall he does a solid job as a reserve...

Yep. The last two players from the Saints Superbowl win will no longer be with the team next season.

2021 New Orleans Saints Rebuild - Quarterback

2021 New Orleans Saints are, as of the time of composing this blog, ($95,050,739) over the anticipated salary cap, per Over The Cap | 2021 New Orleans Saints; and that's before the first snap of the season...

Well there's obviously a lot of work to be done, and it'll start with getting this team under the cap to be compliant with the NFL Salary Cap...

The obvious elephant is the room is will Drew Brees be with this team in 2021? From all indications at this point, that answer would seem to be No. But suppose he wants another geaux? Should we?

Brees is the most accomplished passer in NFL history, but his value is just that - history.

Devout fans don't won't to hear about air yards, but the reality is that good defenses stack up front forcing Brees to throw downfield of 15 air yards or more - he simply can't do it for 16-plus games...

And if can't play at that level any more for a full season, is it really wise to continue to pay him that much? No. And so it's time to move on from the greatest passer in NFL Regular Season history...

Designating Brees with a post-June 1st release will yield a salary cap savings of $25M, with a dead cap number of $11,150,000 - ($70,050,739)

That leaves Taysom Hill as the only other Quarterback on the Saints roster under contract; and with a cap number of $16,159,000; cutting Taysom irregardless of June 1 will only save $5M against the cap...

To get more cap relief, Taysom Hill would have to be traded and, irregardless of 1st June, that savings would be $12,159,000, but then you're left with no QB on the roster...

So even if you're somehow able to trade Taysom Hill AND his $16M+ contract to a team, you're still nearly $58M above the cap and you've got no QB...

Is Jameis Winston gonna play for another $1.1 M? Doubtful. Is he worth big money? We just saw a 43yo QB take Jameis former team to at least the Conference Championship Game...

And after five plus seasons in the league, along with character issues that continue to come up on and off the field, there's just no way you can make a serious contractual commitment...

So there's gonna need to be some more positions addressed in this inevitable rebuild, irregardless if you believe, or do not believe, Taysom is an NFL QB...

Likely scenario. Taysom needs a full season to be evaluated on his merits. It'll be tough because of the inevitable comparisons to Brees' career, which is unfair, but the reality Taysom will have to cope...

Believe Sean Payton when he says Taysom is an NFL QB and that he will roll with him in 2021 and that the Saints will acquire a more mobile QB, similar to Taysom's style of play...

SP says a lot but can we expect a sudden change with Hill and all of the fumbling at age 31? Turnovers is a recipe for an L.

Taysom is a awesome gadget guy.

My hope is that we can retain Winston back on the "cheap". TH needs all the competition he can get.

I was just thinking about the fact that if/when Marcus Williams leaves in FA I wouldn’t mind seeing what PJ can do full-time at FS.

+1...I’ve been saying this for years. I mentioned in a post about 2 years ago that I would like to see how PJ would be at safety. PJ is very versatile and Payton speaks highly of his football knowledge for the entire secondary. He is a long corner with good acceleration but lacks top speed. He is by far one of the best tackling and hardest hitting DBs we have. Forces a good amount of turnovers as well.

I definitely would mind having him back. He would be a lot cheaper and add depth at CB and Safety.

2020 was a terrific season for Marcus W. I'd like to have him back. He looks comfortable on the back end. Tackling has gotten better, he's no longer "guessing" & more importantly he understands the defense now.

I'm curious to see what options he gets in Free Agency. If someone is willing to overpay, good for him but if no takers …

Welcome him back to New Orleans :bng:

If they dont resign Marcus Williams trust me when I say this team might not be 500. The Saints defense will drift back to bottom of the Barrel so fast.

Probably. And probably just sabre-rattling in the media - Rodgers wants more money...

He's only got one real threat at WR in Davante Adams, so he's likely got a good case...

The Packers blew it. Turnovers, questionable play calls inside the red zone etc., team loss though. LaFleur is taking a beating by the fans & media. Cheese head nation probably feel like we do with Brees …

Wasted, squandered opportunities with 1st ballot HOF QB's.

Super Bowl chances don't come around much.

Yet no criticism for that draft where they failed to take a WR...

I thought Teddy B signed a 2 yr contract with Carolina. It's pretty evident they don't want him there. Should we bring him back over Jameis?

I'd prefer Bridgewater to Winston, but I'd rather get healthy with our salary cap and unload some of the veteran contracts...

Yeah, I hesitate when a contract year is your best year. He's a great reserve but I don't know if he'll be a good starter or not. Time will tell but we've got to make a move now.

Agreed. If he signs a big deal elsewhere we could net a 3rd round comp pick. That would mean in next year’s draft we’d have THREE 3rd round picks (Our own, Terry Fontenot comp pick and Hendrickson comp pick.)

That’s how you rebuild when you’re in our financial situation.

Payton will trade all 3 to move up 6 slots for a QR he falls in love with in R2 this year
