I wish I could know if Brees retiring will make us look less attractive to free agents.

How many free agents (offense and defense) have you heard say that Brees was a factor in their signing? I can't remember any that didn't mention that as at least one reason. I can't see it not having an impact. How much of one waits to be seen. This is a concern I believe I have mentioned here in the past. It all comes back around to his leadership, or now lack thereof.

Interesting. Sucks to lose him, but its pretty clear that will be the case. Good for him to cash in.

Loved what we saw out of him last year. I'd feel a lot worse about this if he had showed up vs Tampa in the playoffs

Carl Granderson will occupy Trey's slot.

It may not show with sacks, but he's more than capable of getting in the backfield. Probably more so than TRex.

I agree. Hendrickson was the recipient of the pressure put on by others. It was the perfect storm for him. I would be willing to bet he doesn't reach that sack total again.

Let's test that short-term memory - TE Jared Cook? WR Emmanuel Sanders? RB Latavius Murray? WR Dez Bryant?

Or maybe longer term memory - RB Darren Sproles? WR Cameron Meredith?

And you do the work, go back and you'll find words like opportunity...play with ...Drew...Brees or some combination therein...

I'm sure that our team is still a free agents dream team. We are solid from the top down and The Saints are family owned and we have values. Great ownership, management, coaches and players make this a desirable destination. This team knows how to win and everyone wants to play with a winner!

Thank you. That's exactly my point. Virtually every free agent has mentioned that opportunity. Add Demario Davis and Curtis Lofton, among others!

I'm willing to bet Belichick & his staff will get more out of these guys than what they did on their former teams. If they don't, they'll be cut quicker than a New York minute.

I have a good feeling about Jameis. I can’t wait to see what Sean Payton can do with a new starting QB and a whole offseason to work with him.

Assuming, of course he can beat out Taysom. They are both being paid like backups so it's a no lose.

Ideal scenario for both parties.

If Winston focuses & balls out of control, a longer deal could be made. If not, the Saints can move on.

I hope Jameis does well in New Orleans.

Good way to start post Brees at the QB position, not to mention we may also draft one next month.

I'd be surprised if we don't. I doubt we have the long term answer in house. It may take twenty drafts to find the next one so we might as well start biting the bullet.

Wow! I'm guessing $1.5 million per sack (being generous) for his career there. Not bad! The kid hit the Lotto!

Just saw that Henrickson just signed a 4 year $60 Million contract with the Bengals. I don't have a link.

It's kinda funny. Isn't that the Saints signed Drew to when he came here?

It’s a good contract for him, and also a protective contract for the team, in case he falls off a performance cliff. Here’s a bit more info on that contract, if you’re curious.

I’m not against a draft pick being spent on a QB. However I wouldn’t be surprised if there are more options out there at QB than even NFL scouts and coaches know. Everybody knows about Brady. Kurt Warner was stocking shelves. It’s hard to know what combination will work out. I’m not buying into Guido’s crap shoot theory, but provided the right conditions, it is surprising what can grow. Rosen, Darnold, Trubiski, Winston, are all physically talented guys who could become the next star if things line up. Guys like Rivers, Ryan, Newton, Stafford, Foles, Flacco are all examples of guys that showed they were capable of winning a SB IMO. I don’t expect it will be 10 years of drafts before the Saints obtain a QB they are comfortable with leading the team. Will that guy be the next Brees? Of course not. But we sure as hell can find an Eli Manning who won 2 titles.

All I am saying is that in historical perspective across the NFL finding a franchise defining QB can take and has taken decades. We may find one next year. It may also take us twenty, thirty years to find one. It is a gamble. There may be 15 QB's drafted this year alone. Or more. Of those all but a small handful will never start an NFL game. Most will never take a snap in a game.

Re: 2021 NFL Free Agency: New Orleans Saints

Quinn: Drafting QB every year 'good football business'

Coming from New England, Detroit Lions general manager Bob Quinn knows taking swings at quarterbacks in the draft is a calculated risk every good organization should make, even if that swing misses.

"I think it's really good football business to acquire a young quarterback every year or every other year," Quinn said, via the Detroit Free Press. "There's such a value in the position and nowadays in college football there's a lot of spread offenses, which means it's a lot different than pro football. So it takes these young quarterbacks time to develop. So if you can add a young quarterback every year or every other year to your roster, it's good football business in my mind. So you have time to develop them, either on the practice squad or as a backup, before eventually them having to play in a game."

Saints are showing interest in Richard Sherman. That was obviously going to happen with Kris Richard.
