I can understand being excited about it. It’s always exciting signing new players... especially when your team stinks as they do now. They overspent on mediocre players though. They gave Nelson Agholor so much guaranteed money when better WR’s were out there signing for so much less. Plus, they just spent two high draft picks on TE’s and had to spend big on two different TE’s this offseason.

I think we’ve learned by now that the “Patriot way” was really the Tom Brady way and ol’ Bill is massively overrated.

Not to piss off Oak by repeating a line, but we will see. Pats lost a couple really close games last year and easily could have been 10-6.

Meanwhile Tom Brady went to a new team and won the Super Bowl again.

The Broncos re-signed S Justin Simmons to 4 years/$61 million. That pretty much sets the groundwork for the new deal Marcus Williams will be looking for.

Brady had the benefit of a better all around team from top to bottom. Don’t think you can make that assessment until a little time goes by. We are likely to suck too for a few years until we fill some holes. Do we blame that on Payton or on the fact we are having to take our lumps due to years of salary cap manipulation? We go 10-6 as it stands right now and I’ll consider the season a success regardless of who’s under center.
I’ll say it again, with our current roster we would have a tough time if Brees was still in his prime. About like those 7-9 seasons when our defense was so atrocious. If we couldn’t do it with a HOF qb back then I think we are gonna have just as tough time with Winston or Hill the way our roster sits right now. In fact it may be so bad that we would have a tough time with just about any Qb in the league not named Mahommes, Watson, or Brady.
Bottom line is we really need to luck out in the draft and UDFA market.

Bring him back.

At worst, he's solid depth.

Yeah that’s a weird one. We could certainly use him if he wants to do a cheaper one year deal.

In a make or break year for their young QB, you can’t say the Giants aren’t putting him in the best position to succeed. Plus, they’ll get Saquon Barkley back.

A couple of key injuries really hurt Rankins production. I can understand the Saints allowing him to walk. Guess it's a smart move on our part but I wish Sheldon well in NY. He's a quality guy and was a nice player in New Orleans.

The 2021 run defense will have a few new faces that is for certain.

Re: 2021 NFL Free Agency: New Orleans Saints

NEW ORLEANS SAINTS: Average
Best signing: S Marcus Williams

Franchise-tagging Marcus Wiliams seemed nearly impossible with New Orleans facing a $100 million salary cap deficit coming into the offseason even after the retirement of QB Drew Brees. But Williams’ 89.7 grade since 2019 ranks second at the safety position, so it makes sense to do whatever it takes to keep him. General manager Mickey Loomis has never let the salary cap get in the way of a good time, after all.

The Saints were also able to bring back QB Jameis Winston on a one-year flier after just 11 pass attempts in 2020 kept his market quiet — perhaps by design. Considering Andy Dalton and Ryan Fitzpatrick both received contracts with $10 million base values, signing the 27-year-old former No. 1 overall pick for $5.5 million may have a few teams feeling foolish if Sean Payton can work his magic and revive Winston’s career. Nevertheless, the Saints are still just above water and don’t have a CB2 on the roster; their wide receiver options beyond Michael Thomas are Tre’Quan Smith and Marquez Callaway, and 2020 draft pick Adam Trautman is their top tight end. Beyond the starting spots — or lack thereof — New Orleans also doesn’t have depth along the defensive line or at linebacker.

The Saints managed to prove once and for all that the salary cap is not a true constraint if you don’t want it to be, but poor play from the quarterback position or a key injury in 2021 could torpedo this season. Furthermore, the same problem essentially exists for 2022 given how much money New Orleans has had to push into the future just to be cap compliant for the upcoming season.

At the end of the day, Onyemata simply out-played him, was available, and reset his ceiling...

National talking heads don't say enough, but when you talk to teams that have to deal with the Saints defense, that conversation starts with Big O...

Still a hole at CB #2 for New Orleans ...

We'll sign a 2nd tier vet, then draft a 1 round stud ... I hope :( .

That'd be what I'd like to see, if the value at CB2 is there late in Round 1...

We need linebacker in q bigger way and less viable ones with pro talent

Think we will see Kwon back on a team friendly deal later on if his rehab is going well. Can't see him getting any good offers with the injury so going back to a team you know you fit in makes sense

I read on Canal Street Chronicles Kwon may not even be 100% healthy or pass a physical until mid season. He was good while it lasted however his health is a gamble.

I'd look elsewhere for LB help and also the draft.

I believe that he is a perfect fit for the Saints system and if we can get him back after midseason that would give us a big boost in the playoffs. Kwon is a dynamic player who makes everyone around him better. Yes, I want him back for the right price.

I sure hope so; another rival may ****-block us to signing him...

Kwon probably will be cleared by Q1 of the season, but it'll be a full year, if ever, that he's back to running and gunning...
