I agree completely. That's all I have ever said. How much it factors depends upon the players affected. Some can be overcome while others, like with the Rams, can be crippling.

"Their" injuries factor into the equation of them winning against us - twice.
"Our" injuries factor into the equation of us losing to them - twice.

Anything can happen between now and next year. Payton could decide he wants to just stay at Fox for good or, God forbid, something happened to Payton where he could no longer pursue coaching. The Saints would be left with absolutely nothing.

That brings it all back around to getting something is better than getting nothing.

Which positions? Depending on matchups, it matters.

Our starters missed over 80 games this year. We set the record for the most players starting last year. Looking at this pattern something needs to be addressed. Obviously, none of us know how to do it but let's hope that the front office can finally figure that one out.

More often than not injuries are not preventable. Sometimes it's just plain dumb luck.

I think they need to pick up that option on Ruiz. He's been our most durable lineman and has really come into his own with his play, as well.

It took him a while, but he earned it .

Maybe that first full offseason since he was drafted played a part in his monumental jump in effectiveness.

Comparing Sully's stats to P Turner's after two years, it appears the Saints have missed again. The difference being Sully cost us crazily way more.

Some claimed we missed on Ruiz, too, right? Patience young whippersnapper. ;)

DT & RB is a need for sure.

See Philly and Niners roster/depth … and still alive in the post season.

Saints need to get better in the trenches for sure.

Davenport's clone :p.

Not sure what happened to Marcus D. His game was always predicated on speed and power. I saw very little power in 2022.

Some claim we need four years to determine if a player was worth his draft position.

Patience amigo.

It's between the ears. Or what's not between the ears.

You sorta see it in his first season.

Ruiz showed more early on. And McCoy stepped in. Ruiz was forced to switch positions as well. PT was never asked to switch positions. So the comparison is more than valid. PT is under contract on his rookie deal. So we need to let it play out. So we'll see if PT makes a breakthrough. He needs to.

So to reiterate and armchair 20/20 way back machine, what could the Saints have done with the three numbers they used on Davenport and Turner? :bng:

For what it's worth the next DE wasn't taken until pick #53.

Re: Official 2023 OFFSEASON Thread

I wonder if we will rely on the raw athletic scores for defensive ends like Davenport and Peyton Turner who have not worked out like we had hoped? We've got to stop throwing away multiple draft picks for one player. It leaves us with no depth and that has killed us with the injuries that the Saints sustained again this year.

The Saints need to add another dawg WR. POSSESSION, chain mover type. Get rid of guys who can't help > Kevin White, Trequan etc. Solid DEPTH is paramount.

Olave, Rashid are obviously capable but you need more.

It's a copy cap league - take a page out of KC, Bengals, Philly & Niners game. No surprise they are still alive in the postseason.

IMO getting more capable pass catchers in NOLA is super important this off-season.

I won't rule out a WR selection in RD 2 of the upcoming draft.

Yes they do, but they have talent already in Rasheed and Dijon Dixon and Merrick .

Bring in better depth to compete.

The Keith Kirkwood and Merrick's of the world are replaceable.

Dijon ceiling is probably special teams.
