I'd take Carr and Jacobs, thank you very much.

Re: Official 2023 OFFSEASON Thread

QB, DT, OG, RB, WR, DE, and safety have to be addressed this offseason. Otherwise I think we are doomed to repeat 2022. That is an awful lot of holes to fill and this isn't an orgy.

Re: Official 2023 OFFSEASON Thread

Even if we sign Carr, we still need to draft a QB with our first pick! We need to trade MT before we cut him! Then DE and OL with a few FA signings and late round WR and RB we’ll be fine!

That would be a total waste of a first round pick, Cher.

Considered a "bust" by a few overly impatient fans, Ruiz has developed into what could be a more than dependable anchor on the Saints offensive line for the next decade.

We are number 10 on the waiver wire. Some Talent could slip through to us if we get lucky. Of course, we haven't been lucky in quite some time.

I can't imagine much talent is going to reach the waiver wire, Rugs. Only players with less than four years in the league are eligible for waivers. That means players that basically couldn't make the cut. Those waiver qualifiers would not likely be being released for cap cutting reasons. If they were it would mean they simply weren't good enough to make it. Anyone with four or more years that gets released is not subject to waivers and are immediately free agents. Among those are the ones that would have the talent, I would suspect.

It's time to start looking at Free agent RBs.

Regardless of how many games AK is suspended in 2023, we still need another workhorse.

Not many names worth a chit. The ones that are are too much, IMHO, like Jacobs. Boston Scott is still a role a player. Age is a huge factor.

Rashad Penny? Samaje Perine?

These guys are still effective and could help.

Pass on Scott.

I can't like, I think I'd pay Jacobs. Running Backs aren't that costly. I like Damien Harris as a power back. David Montgomery is interesting. James Robinson. I see plenty of value in free agency at the RB position.

I wouldn't be surprised to see either James Hurst, Granderson or Lutz cut this off-season. If the Saints want to compete on getting DCarr, you're probably going to need 70M+ in the kitty before the start of the league year.

And DCarr is definitely not waiting until early June before signing a new contract.

IMO some of the tough choices should have been made in 2021/22. This "win now " bullshinky nonsense needs to stop. The Saints are years away from truly competing. On the flip side, I understand (win now) because Allen wants to keep his job.

Make it make sense.

Penny makes for an interesting target. Both parties would have a lot to gain here if we can get him on a cheap 1 year deal. I'd prefer to go this route than spend early draft capital on a running back.

Spears in the 3rd wouldn't hurt my ears.

It's only going to take around $12 to $15 million of 2023 cap to bring in Carr. That's including $60 to $70 million signing bonus. We have the means to do it. That doesn't mean we will do it. Personally I hope we do because it may be twenty years until we have a shot at an equivalent QB.

I wouldn't mind him as a WR4 or 5. He's a good blocker and knows the system well. If we don't retain Thomas we'll likely add another legit weapon via free agency or the draft. The fact we are pursuing Carr just shows that they remain in it to win. I'll also take Callaway as that deep depth.

If they are in it to win then why would they bring back Tre Quan Smith? Wide receivers are supposed to be able to catch the ball not just block. They're not called wide blockers for a reason.

He's not as bad as you make him out to be. He was targeted 27 times last season and had three drops. He was targeted exactly 100 times the previous two seasons and had only six drops. Tre'Quan has never caught fewer than 63.6 percent of his targets and hauled in 70.4 percent in 2022.

In comparison, Chris Olave had seven drops alone last season. He caught only 60.5 percent of his targets.

You see, Rugs, perception is not always reality.

I let him walk. I want D.J. Chark.

I’d rather we have our 2 TE’s converted from WR do Smith’s blocking.

Go find a TE, RB & G in Free agency.

The draft would also be a good starting point for a QB.

Youth movement time. It’s not like the Saints are one player away from contending in late January 2024.

Nawhhh man ... Let's try to be $100 over the cap for next year. We're truly THAT close if we're to believe the tea leaves. Our coach rocks and is trending to try make the HOF. Not sure just how long he will try or how long they will let him, not that it matters.

Funny how some like to hold on to dead weight, below avg players then complain he's not getting open on Sundays.

Improve the roster every off-season. Trequan should have been replaced 2 seasons ago.

He was a swing and a miss but let's give him another shot at blocking

And you wonder why you were 7-10 last season. Michael Gallup was there in the same draft class, same round. Scouts missed that one.

Improve the depth if you want to compete with the Niners, Eagles & Cowboys when it counts.
