Coates didn't show any grasp of the route tree and his interviews went poorly at the NFL Combine...

Coates definitely slipped outta the first round...

Re: 2015 draft??

DGB looks like a massive train wreck ready to happen...

Yeah, he's got mad skills and the freakish size...

But he's a quitter...his past shows it...

And what's worse is that he's got a father who's sees nothing but living through his kid to get to the NFL life...AKA an enabler...

Absolutely amazed at the BS story after his Oklahoma pro day that his girlfriend is pregnant and he wanted to be all noble and family fist bullshinksi...

And so he felt the need to quit Oklahoma before playing a down (he wouldn't have played in 2014 because of NCAA transfer rules even though some kid didn't get a scholarship this year because of his ride), it leaked he was going to go pro in September for the 2015 draft and his baby mama isn't due till July...

Amazed how sports journalists can instantly calculate averages using sabre metrics yet they're completely inept at calculating a conception date from an expectant date?!?

So after being arrested twice on drug possession and charges, yes, dropped...

And charges not filed for his alleged burglary and assault by pushing a woman down stairs...

Well, what you got is an enabling crowd who shelters this kid from the consequences of his actions...

And his father feels it wouldn't be right if that were held against him and he fell in the draft...

Let Atlanta get him... Let Philadelphia get him... Let Carolina have him... Let Baltimore have him...

Pass the  and enjoy the schadenfreude...

Re: 2015 draft??

Here's what I don't get...

After the Graham trade and after the Stills trade, hasn't Loomis and Payton been fairly clear that the purpose was to get some of the talent on the defensive side of the ball?!?

So either Sean Mickey Ireland is totally F.O.S. are we should expect to see defenders taken with the first few picks of the draft...

And don't think the Saints FO isn't sending a message for future quarterbacks that, yeah you may have earned the moon and we'll pay you with the moon (to cover our arses), but it's on you if there's no money left to keep any talent around you...

With the exception of Scherff, Beasley, Leonard Willams, Marcus Mariotta, and maybe Danny Shelton, there isn't a guy I'd spend a first round pick, but this is a deep draft for guys with second, third round grades...

If Beasley is there at 7 I'm really liking the idea of giving ol' Ryan Pace a call and jumping in front of the Failclowns to snag him. We certainly have the ammunition for that trade.

That will cost the second number 1 or our 2nd plus more picks. Dont like it myself. Cam Jordan + Miami's 3rd for the Bears 1st

I think it would only cost our 2nd round pick. At the most we give them the 31st pick. Totally worth it.

Vic Beasley OLB Clemson
Brandon Scherff OG Iowa
La'el Collins OT LSU
Danny Shelton NT Washington
Trae Waynes CB Michigan State

My greatest fear which by the way i can has a chance of happening

Winston and Mariota both fall out of the top 5. one makes it of the top ten.

i really think both are over rated and Winston leads the way bu a long shot

Re: 2015 draft??

Was Arik Armstead that good, productive?!?

To me, he reminds me of Reynaldo Turnbull...

Remember him?!?

Coach Mora had him up on a dias, showing him off like a prized slave or something?!? Jim couldn't keep his hands off of him...

Great physical attributes, really smart guy; but he wasn't a football player and wasn't going to win games for you...

jeanpierre 03-18-2015 07:57 AM

Re: 2015 draft??

The only two Nose Tackle/Defensive Tackles I like in the first round, and it's with the 31st pick, would be...

First, Carl Davis, Iowa; the guy is immovable, reminds me of Jim Wilks; he doesn't have to sack anyone, he's just got to push their interior linemen into their passer, scare said passer with his 6' 5", 320 lbs frame and massive arms and hands...

Second, Eddie Goldman; I'm not nearly as high as some scouts on him, but I'm close; he's this generation's Vince Wilfork, but will he be as good as State had talent up and down their front seven?!?

Both would take our NT and/or DT positions to another level (I see Davis taking over for Hicks, protecting that outside pass rusher if not moving inside as a nose tackle on passing downs)...

jeanpierre 03-18-2015 07:59 AM

Re: 2015 draft??

If I thought Jake Fisher could win the Left Tackle spot from Armstead, allowing the very athletic Armstead to move to Right Tackle and really power what could be an amazing run game (we still need to find out what we have at left guard), then I'd put him as a priority for the Saints in the first round...

jeanpierre 03-18-2015 08:04 AM

Re: 2015 draft??

I think Ray, Gregory and Dupree are in that same class as Dwight Freeney, Will Smith...

They will be feast or famine guys and I prefer effective, productive CONSISTENCY...

In addition they're 4-3 guys and those teams should select from that group...

We should continue our push to a 3-4 defense and Payton has rightfully chosen, and we should make a move for Beasley with our first pick or trade back a few spots for Eli Harold; we must get a pass rusher in the first...

Or we take Louisville's Mauldin with our second round pick...

Why would the Bears do that unless Pace didn't like Beasley...

You gotta remember that the Bears are now moving to a 3-4 base package as well, that's why they're letting so many players geaux...

If Shelton is there, Pace has to like him more than Beasley...

But that still exposes Beasley to Atlanta, who also stated they're moving to a 3-4, but their new coach is a wildcard; Thomas Dimitroff certainly doesn't have a clue to building a team, but that coach they have, Dan Quinn, coming from Seattle - that bears vigilance...

ChrisXVI 03-18-2015 08:18 AM

Re: 2015 draft??

With the Bears signing McPhee I think they would welcome an additional draft pick to help fill other holes in their transition to the 3-4.

i see these two as the same type of players and with some time under Fishers belt we could swap Armstead with Fisher without missing a beat. but Armstead looks to have a home at LT. i expect more improvement again this year and the start of pro bowl chatter is very possible.

After last year and the glaring drop of in depth at OT when both OT went down. a player like Fisher is worth the pick. Streif is not getting any younger either.

Long term IMO it just makes sense to me.

get your RG/RT at 13 and all that left to worry about is the back up OG to step in. i stopped believing in the long shoots cutting the mustard ie Harris is the last of a long line of bs the saints have tried to sell us on. so i am not buying it. try the kid out of Hobart. the rest of the picks can defense imo except one. get the kid out of georgia tech to run Jimmies routes. almost as big but faster NOT LIKE Jimmies route was that complex.

4/5 out of the first offense gets us in the running for the division crown. 5/5 on defense probably wont

then in 2016 you really can go all out on defense is the football goods bless you in the 2015 draft offensively.

if not oh well :bng:

Dupree is promising. at the pro level in a 34

i do not like either Ray or Gregory in a 34 set. i just see both as limited much like Jr. 43 sure i can see it better but 34? nope i just can not buy into it

LOL...I reiterate, I hate, really hate taking a right tackle with the 13th pick of the draft...

Now, with regards to Jahri Evans and his cap number...

I'd pick up the phone and ask for the Rams second round pick and they take some of the hit for this year's number, or...

ask for their third round pick and OL Barrett Jones who's recoved from back surgery...

Dupree is nearly identical to Freeney, and that's too one-dimensional for my taste...

Re: 2015 draft??

1st (13) NT Danny Shelton
1st (31) CB Marcus Peters
2nd (12) OLB Eli Harold
3rd (11) ILB Denzel Perryman
3rd (14) OG Tre Jackson
5th (12) DE Henry Anderson
5th (18) WR/TE Darren Waller
6th (11) OT Corey Robinson
7th (13) K Justin Manton

I wouldn't expect it to play out this way, but it looks doable with current projections. I think five of these guys might start immediately, six if you count the kicker.

jeanpierre 03-18-2015 10:07 PM

Re: 2015 draft??

Can't see Harold, Perryman, Jackson and Anderson falling that far...

Harold won't get past 31...

Perryman won't get outta the second round...

Jackson is a second rounder as well...

Anderson may make it to the first quarter of the third round, but I think he's going second round...

The first two rounds are doable though...

And we've got way too many holes to spend a draft pick on a kicker...

Re: 2015 draft??

Vic Beasley vs Trae Waynes

hmmm hard call. we have two big CB that lack on thing: speed

Beasley across from Jr scary thought pass rush wise.

draft Trae and that need foe speed on the outside at CB comes right off the board as an area of need also. that is 3 dam big CB right there

Only thing left to help in coverage and pass rush are

a sneaky quick nickle and
some DL help to build a solid rotation with.

Both can be had in this draft later too. I really like some of the late round players to address these needs.

I like the Trae pick more myself but Vic would be a pick were I would say "I understand the pick" the bench solved my only issue with the guy. small

I think Keenan has plenty of speed, he ran for stride for stride with Desean Jackson in the playoffs and completely took him out of the game

Still so many ways we could in the first round and I really don't hate any of them!

After Vic there is a big drop of in talent or talent with red flags

hard to pick between the two. but there is solid CB depth in this draft unlike OLB

I was watching Friday's episode of Pro football talk and one of the analyst believes that Vic is off the board super early (Jacksonville). Don't think I have seen him projected to go that high on any of the mock drafts.

Re: 2015 draft??

It's a rainy Sunday morning so I figured it was time to take another stab at this on Fanspeak. I only did 3 rounds and no restarting it to get the picks I wanted lol.

R1P13 DE ALVIN DUPREE KENTUCKY
-With his combination of size, strength and speed I think he could play the strong side OLB position in the base 3-4. In four man fronts he could be a much more well-rounded DE than Junior Galette allowing us to use #93 sparingly as the situational pass-rusher he's better suited for.

R1P31 ILB STEPHONE ANTHONY CLEMSON
-Some will say this is a hair too high for him but I think our coaches love him and won't be afraid to pull the trigger. He has the size and speed we've lacked at the position for years.

R2P12 G TRE' JACKSON FLORIDA STATE
-Nothing much to say here... Bring him in and let him compete with Senio Kelemete and Tim Lelito for that left guard spot.

R3P11 DT GRADY JARRETT CLEMSON
-From what I've read he's not a great fit for the 3-4 but as a rotational player in a four man front he'd be good. That's fine because we don't have much of anything at DT other than Jenkins and Bunkley.

R3P14 TE MAXX WILLIAMS MINNESOTA
-I don't think it's imperative that we find a new TE in the draft but if Maxx Williams is available here then why not? With Ben Watson being on his last legs a two TE set with Josh Hill and Williams would be pretty nice.

Realistically, Jacksonville is as big a threat as anyone in the top 10 to take Beasley...

They've got a mixed 4-3/3-4 defense and he's an excellent candidate to upgrade any linebacking corps, but is better suited to the 3-4 base...

Biggest threats to select Beasley...

(01) TB 4-3
(02) TN 3-4
(03) JAX 4-3/H
(04) OAK 4-3
(05) WAS 3-4
(06) NYJ 3-4/H
(07) CHI 3-4
(08) ATL 3-4
(09) NYG 4-3
(10) StL 4-3

Re: 2015 draft??

Rather take DGB before Cooper...

Look Cooper is a fine receiver, but in the NFL, you've got to have 6' 3" or better with plenty of wing-span to geaux up and get the jump balls in the end zone...

Now we rightfully traded Graham and Colston has little time left so if we're going to geaux out and get a WR that's tall and if the other kids aren't it this year, then go get you a DGB without the baggage...

SmashMouth 03-22-2015 09:55 PM

Re: 2015 draft??

Players We Met With At The Senior Bowl:

Sammie Coates, WR, Auburn
Davante Davis, WR, UNLV
Tyler Lockett, WR, Kansas State
Stephone Anthony, ILB, Clemson
David Cobb, RB, Minnesota
La'el Collins, OT, LSU
Doran Grant, CB/S, Ohio State
Geneo Grissom, OLB/DE/3-4OLB, Oklahoma
Jordan Hicks, OLB, Texas
JaCorey Shepherd, CB, Kansas
Preston Smith, DE, Mississippi State
Martrell Spaight, OLB, Arkansas
Gabe Wright, DT, Auburn

Players We Spent Extra Time With At The Combine:

Mario Edwards Jr., DE/DT/3-4DE, Florida State
Danny Shelton, DT/NT, Washington
Jameis Winston, QB, Florida State (I think this was just to get more insight on him, knowing he was coming to the south)
Clive Walford, TE, Miami
Alvin Dupree, OLB/DE/3-4OLB, Kentucky
La'el Collins, OT, LSU

Players We Met With At The East West Shine Game:

Blake Bell, TE, Oklahoma
Bryce Callahan, CB, Rice
Sam Carter, S, TCU
Dillon Day, C, Mississippi State
Amarlo Herrera, ILB, Georgia
Darrian Miller, OT, Kentucky
Jordan Richards, S, Stanford
Tye Smith, CB, Towson
Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor

Players We Made Special Trips To See At Their Pro-Days

Tavaris Barnes, DE, Clemson
Stephone Anthony, ILB, Clemson
Alvin Dupree, OLB/DE/3-4OLB, Kentucky
Blake Sims, QB, Alabama
Keon Williams, RB, Chattanooga
Preston Smith, DE, Mississippi State

So Here's What I See:

1. The # 13 pick obviously comes down to Alvin Dupree, La'el Collins or Danny Shelton. I think Shelton will be gone so I would just say Dupree or Collins.

2. The players we made a point of seeing twice could show that we have high interest in that player. There's only 3 of those so far La'el Collins, Alvin Dupree & Stephone Anthony. But it could also mean that what we saw the first time was enough, we only met with Cooks one time last year. Sean Payton has said how much just one 15-minute interrogation segment with a player could make or break an evaluation. For example, the Saints felt no need to bring Brandin Cooks to New Orleans leading up to last year's draft. The wide receiver wowed the Saints so much they felt the utmost confidence in Cooks as top-flight draft prospect that would fit in perfectly within their program.

3. I think we are going to draft a QB with either one of our 3rds or one of our 5ths and and looks like it comes down to Petty or Sims. We wouldn't have went to Sims pro day unless we really wanted to see what he had and if he would fit in our system.

4. It looks like out of our first 3 picks that 2 of them will be defenders, LBs or DEs. I think the #44 pick is a lock for Stephone Anthony.
