Someone on here thinks he should go fourth? Nope, he's ranked in the 7th round and he too often did I see his runningbacks run into him, a problem expressed on here with our RBs, but also he blocked way too close to the QB, getting a good block but not pushing and that's the last thing Brees needs. Also he's played LT in this clips, not LG. But I brought him up because I saw him mentioned on here.
I'd grade him fourth round and am intrigued if he might go higher than fourth...And I watch tape...

Hope this helps...

...A college left tackle, Washington State's Joe Dahl (6-4, 299) kicked inside this week and has impressed at both left and right guard. He keeps his hips low off the snap and sits in his stance with his near 33-inch arms extended to engage.

Dahl is very active with his hands and showed accurate placement to tie-up rushers and control the point of attack. Coming from WSU's spread scheme, there were several question marks regarding Dahl's pro transition, but he answered several of them in Mobile...

Here's something interesting from Matt Miller at Bleacher Report:

"The top-ranked linebacker in this class, Jaylon Smith, is still a lock to go top 15 according to team sources. Smith, who tore his ACL and LCL in the Fiesta Bowl, is already back rehabbing two times a day according to sources close to the player. One team to keep an eye on is the New Orleans Saints. I'm told there is a lot of like for him at weakside linebacker on their board."

I really like the sound of that. This is a deep class for D-Lineman so I would be fine with Smith in the first round.

"When you get into one of these groups, there's only a couple of ways you can get out. One, is death; the other, is mental institutions."

While I wouldn't mind Another OLB. Do we really want one that is just coming of a big knee surgery?

That would be a retrograde move for the Saints; going back to farming players for other teams...

If we have the chance to have a Lavonte David-style impact LB for the next five years with the stipulation that he starts this season on IR designated to return... I would absolutely pull the trigger on Jaylon Smith. How long have we complained about needing to upgrade our LB's? We have a MLB but there's still work to do and I would be fine with Smith.

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

It would really come down to the Saints front office and what happens in Free Agency. If the FO makes a go for say Trevathian or another mid tier LB, I could see them passing on Jaylon.

However if someone told me that we could have drafted Captain America (Luke Kuechly) or Bobby Wagner but we would have to sit him for a season, I'd wouldn't even care. I think this guy (Jaylon Smith) will become an impact player at the next level.

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

Bleacher Report says we want Jaylon Smith, LB from Notre Dame and brother of former Broncos WR Rod Smith. It continues our trend of taking players coming off injuries, but he's an excellent talent and he will be ready for the regular season.

Edit: Ok. I'm late. My bad. Carry on.

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

Next tier of DTs(so far none really stand out like Nkemdich)

Btw I did not include Robinson the first time because I don't think we're getting him.

1.

He plays on a team that doesn't have all the tools to contend with the bigger schools but these type of schools players have been the alternative to the major BCS schools. He played hard, and with better defensive talent around him he should be better and small school players have shown to play hard. Early 2nd projection, for us, that may mean we get him or lose out.

2.

First two games I thought he was okay, but looked better against Hawaii and Navy. He should be better given he's on a Urban Meyer defense. Early 3rd but might move up.

3.

I don't like this one too much. Louiseville is not a defensive team but he just did not stand out to me. Also, he looked better against FSU than TAM. Early 2nd projection, possible late first.

4.

I only saw one game with him and it did not help. We already have a guy by this name already so it would be weird to have two with it. Just was not seeing much from him. 2nd round.

Draft
Round 2-Butler
Round 2-Washington(if Butler's gone)

Do Not Draft
Round 2-Rankins
Round 2-Johnson

IF they continue to trend through the combine and respective pro days as they have at the Reese's Senior Bowl, Butler and Rankins are going first round...

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

I don't like to judge Senior Bowls for how a player does. How they do in conference games is a bigger indication of how they will succeed or not.

I also learn something new. A DT isn't exactly all about getting to the qb but clogging holes and stopping the run. Yet I saw RBs running like crazy against Baylor which is why I'm not high on someone like Billings.

Maybe I did my evaluations wrong and were looking for DTs who could get to the qb and disrupt plays as opposed to what a DT is really supposed to do.
