The Saints are in the midst of a rebuild on the defensive side of the ball, and Rankins can be unblockable when he's at his best, with exceptional quickness and the ability to make plays in the backfield from the interior. A stellar week in Mobile at the Senior Bowl secured his place in the top half of Round 1.
at 12? sorry i would not be a happy camper. senior bowl does not make up for season and get you into the top 20.

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

I like the kid but his rankings are all post season hype. good way to think about his senior bowl performance is more a refection of the quality of interior OL. not so hot this year. The end of round works but i have that as a bit of a reach. Plus he did not go up against a ton of talent either during the season.

my fear is he can be passed off too easily by an experienced line at the next level. pushed around. That is why i am still not sold on his bull rushing capabilities at the next level. so far i have him as a finesse DT.

But i am waiting on bench, high jump, shuttle and cone times before i completely buy into his quick twitch and power move hype. even then i will go back and look at him again.

lets put it this way a team thinks they need to trade with us to get him, i have little reason right now not to take the picks and move down. plenty of talent at DT this year and so far he has not impressed me enough to think he is a must pick player in the top 20.

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

Some interesting pre-Combine notes from Matt Miller at Bleacher Report...

— As the combine approaches, one of the hottest names in the class is Boise State edge-rusher Kamalei Correa. One scout I spoke to this week thinks Correa could propel himself into the top 25 picks of the draft, especially given a weak group at the "EDGE" position this year.

— Clemson cornerback Mackensie Alexander left school after two seasons as a starter, but in talking to one AFC scout this week, they're not a fan of that decision. Three different team scouts confirmed this week that they have Alexander graded as a "Day 3" player given his smaller size (listed at 5'11", 195 lbs) and the fact he didn't record an interception at Clemson.

— The buzz around Louisiana Tech defensive lineman Vernon Butler continues to grow. Said one team scout after watching Senior Bowl practices on tape last week, "Butler can be another Marcell Dareus. He's that good."*

— "I know you guys like Leonard [Floyd], but where the hell are you gonna play him in the NFL?" Those are the very blunt words of one general manager this week, remarking on the 6'4", 230-pound linebacker from Georgia.

I went back on the kid and so far I see why the upside hype is there

Never bought into the kid completely. at best a see a solid #2 CB in him.

I think this is kid that has room to fill out a bit more with out effecting his game. But he is a Jack of all trades master of none, that might not ever become of a master of any. great puzzle piece player to jump all around but even in the second i would not be running his name up to the commish. He is a hard player to figure out. He disappeared for long stretches of the season and even when he did reappeared it was nothing more than flashes. He is still living off his preseason hype IMO.

Re: 2016 NFL Draft Prospect Thread ...............

Why draft Floyd when you've got a player in Schobel (Wisconsin) who was extremely productive in college at a high level (Div I Big 10) and will be there somewhere between the fourth and fifth round?!?

I've seen Floyd and I see him as a smallish 4-3 WLB at best that will be oft-injured because I don't seem him filling out that frame...

Really, really like Vernon Butler, but I don't like taking an unproven quantity in the first and he'll probably be gone by the time we pick in the second round; we can't afford to gamble, so I'd make the priority in Free Agency to sign Damon Harrison and have Butler as a Plan B/C...

Don't get the mocks having us take Alexander in the first; gotta be a bunch of Saints/Small Market Haters; Best cornerback we can draft will be a third round pick who should be there for us, Bayor's Xavien Howard...

NFL ponders changes to tests given at annual scouting combine

Changes to the UnderRoos Olympics?!?

Personal preference is drills done in pads with few exceptions (i.e. Bench Press, Wonderlick exam, Personal Interviews)...

Definitely like Gotsis...

Like some of those UDFA...

Someone is going to throw out at least a 6th Round pick on Austin...

Ryker Mathews has intriguing size...

Can't see keeping Morstead at that cap number; not with that production...
