Re: Official 2023 OFFSEASON Thread

Looking like we have all the weapons available that we can hope for at this point in the off-season. Now let's all hope the offensive line stays intact. We can't have 17 different offensive line groupings again this year and expect anything dramatically different. Back when our offense was rolling we almost always had the same starting five in there week after week after week.

Dennis Allen & co are making moves I thought I'd see from Sean P @ WR.

Love this signing. If Washington is healthy, he's another vertical threat.

But out of nowhere Kaden Ellis finally got a chance to play the limited position of LB in the Saints' 4-2 front when Werner went down. When we lost Ellis to free agency we were hearing all about the dire need for LB's. D'Marco Jackson was drafted for a reason last year. We let Ellis walk for a reason this year. We (the front office) didn't panic during the draft in search for a backup LB.

I think they like what they have in Jackson and feel they have the LB corps mostly ready to go.

Bring in more guys to compete at the linebacker position.

D'Marco hasn't played a down of NFL football.

Quality depth is the name of the game at this level.

They've certainly accrued some weapons for Derek Carr this off-season.

Very happy with the moves so far, only thing that can hold the offense back is Pete C in my opinion.

As long as it is healthy, then yes, I agree. But I just can't see how Carmichael totally forgot how to playcall all of the sudden. One would have to imagine that the limitations with the decimated offensive line and Mr. Conservative at QB in Andy Dalton had to play a part in that. I wonder how many times Dalton audibled into a run. But, we will definitely see on September 10th at noon. I can't wait.

Michael Thomas
A.T. Perry
Bryan Edwards

Chris Olave
Tre’Quan Smith
Keith Kirkwood

Rashid Shaheed
James Washington
Kirk Merritt

That’s some great depth. I’d cut Tre and bring back Landry.

Looks like the Captain, Cam, believes in Allen and Carmichael. I believe in him.

What do we expect our Team Captain, All-Time Franchise Sack Leader and future HOF player supposed to say? "Our coaching blows"?

I prefer to take it as he's on board for the ride and he's being positive. But hey, anyone can extrapolate anything that take that message to mean.

Tweets are funny like that. ;)

I’ll pull for him of course, but I don’t see Washington adding much. We sure haven’t had much luck bringing in FA WRs…especially ones with injury issues. He’s sure not the “Washington” I was hoping we’d add to the team this offseason.

With the guys currently on the roster, it looks like we are moving toward a vertical, west coast hybrid type of offense.

Cam's been saying all along he's planning on being a Saint for life and he's still playing at an extremely high level.

Make him a Saint for life, not many people deserve it more than Cam.

We need to get him a Super Bowl before he hangs them up, he really deserves one.

+1.

That's (SB) about all missing from his resume. Great player & a great guy.

At this point, I'm hoping he can get at least 15-20 more sacks. Almost guarantees him a gold jacket :bng:.

Re: Official 2023 OFFSEASON Thread

He would be the 6th player who was primarily a Saint to make the HOF. Mills and Brees will have joined Anderson, Jackson, and Roaf by then. That’s impressive and shows we’ve come a long way from the “Aint’s” days.

Must be a poly blend material. My cotton drawers fell apart pretty quickly.

Cotton underwear? Up here we have Refrigiwear. I just recently upgraded to Carhartt. My dad used to wear burlap underwear with duct tape.

Bobby Hebert interviewing Drew Brees … of particular interest in this clip is Drew Brees talking about how the offense and defense battle so hard in training camp it affected the teams mindset to opponents during the season.

Another interesting take on turn overs and why they were few and far between.

Thanks for pointing this out. I have heard the same thing about turnover production by others over the years. If the offense isn't capable of putting pressure on the opposition's offense to score then turnover chances become rarer and rarer. It doesn't matter how good the defensive players are if the opposing team is never forced to put the ball in harm's way.

WW_Who_Dat 05-18-2023 01:17 PM

Re: Official 2023 OFFSEASON Thread

Hard never really thought about the direct correlation between the two but makes absolute sense. Now the way our offense has operated over the last 3 seasons, granted due to unprecedented injuries but also a huge lack of talent level in the skill positions, forced the offense into run centric time of possession game planning. We just could not attack past 10-15 yards.

When Drew and the offense was putting up 40 burgers and 350-400 yard games our opponents had to be aggressive and take risk whereby our defense could max pressure, man coverage forcing more opponents into no risk no biscuit game plan adjustments.

Hopefully we see a move this season to be more aggressive on offense putting more pressure on opponents defense and when successful forcing opponents offense into having take more risk to keep pace.

Brees was so good at recognizing that the safety would be creeping the box or on his toes rather his heels and that all it took and Cooks, Devery and Meacham were off to races and the safety was 2 steps too late.
