Think we still need more TE depth? Here's a list of possible free agent pickups.

I like seeing both Penning and Ruiz out of their walking boots!

Great interview with Tyrann Mathieu here by Brooke Chesney. That lady has skills.

Maybe Sean Payton can use Trequan? Lil Jordan, Callaway, or Trautman can give him a ride from the Denver airport .

I don't see Dennis Allen hanging on to vets who don't move the needle on either side of the ball.

That speaks more to the quality of the talent that has been brought in to compete for a WR position over the last 3-4 years. Other than MT in the second round and last years 1st round for Olave the players brought in to compete are late round or UDFA. More misses than hits from that level.

Our "easy" schedule just got easier. The Colts are going to Europe. Not the Saints.

Special guest on Saints Podcast - > Greg Cosell. Breaks down the Xs and O's (Allen, draft picks, DCarr, etc) extremely well.

Good listen.

Listening to Bobby (post 658) with this rant on teams the Saints "should beat" in 2023 made me laugh.

I remember watching a documentary years back (in the late 90s) on football powerhouse West Monroe. It featured the head coach and legendary coach (R.I.P.) Don Shows.

In one of the episodes, it had Don sitting in his office basically casually joking with his staff, X'ing off teams & how many points they would win by en route to another state title. Total disregard for the opponent.

Well, in the first round of the postseason they were defeated, and humbled.

I know this is 🍎 apples (high school vs pros) to oranges 🍊 however I'm not taking anyone lightly on the Saint's schedule. This is the NFL & all those teams we face are pros too.

Bobby should know this. He had arguably one of the most dominant defenses on his side ever and he still couldn't get it done.

One game at a time.

Well said! Id like to add that it’s hard to really judge a strength of schedule for the most part anyways because of so much shuffling around with coaches and FA players every season, not to mention the addition of fresh meat through the draft

I made a similar point when people were complaining about us losing last year to teams we “should” beat. Every game in the NFL is a struggle. The difference between being a 6 win team and a 12 win team could easily come
down to a handful of unlucky bounces or bad calls by the ref.

And that's what RG wants, IMHO... to be able to control certain outcomes with an "unlucky" bounce or call here and there. When the Saints were consistently scoring 50 burgers for a couple of years, out pacing teams by halftime, it's real fun for us, but not for ratings and other fans. The way the salary cap is structured is both a boon and a bust in terms of fielding dominating teams for more than a year or two.

For me, it makes it even more infuriating and disappointing Saints didn't capitalize in 2011 and the two miracle plays. It is what it is.

The Saints keep testing the WR waters. This is good. Quality depth behind Thomas, Olave, and Shaheed would be great.

Who else is excited about other teams cast offs when cut time comes? I am. :cheering:

There should be several quality players available to come in and fill a few depth holes on the roster. One mans trash is another mans treasure. Sometimes, beauty really is in the eye of the beholder and his advisors.

A big key to building depth after the draft is to identify your weaknesses then find cuts that have value in your system and a vision for them. Or you could make a trade. We still have quite a bit of cap money left, so I won't be surprised to see one of our comp picks get traded.

I look forward to learning about who should be available when cuts down that can help this team. It's not as exciting as getting to know draft prospects who fit your system and have a role . However, if we don't draft them then I enjoy watching them play unless they go to a divisional rival.

Bump ...

We were discussing WR depth in another thread earlier this morning. I see the Saints have signed James Washington to a 1-year deal.

DCarr, Taysom, Jamal Williams, Thomas, Washington, AK, Olave, Shaheed & host of others including the draft. Lots of options on offense.

No excuses for Pete Carmichael and his play calling in 2023.
