R1(15) LB Alec Ogletree, Georgia

How would signing Butler affect your #15 pick?

After having watched the recent SP vids, I am convinced he will draft a LT somewhere.

lee909 03-21-2013 01:47 AM

Round 3-5 would be my guess.

Im guessing it wouldn't because Ogletree is a ILB and Butler is an OLB.

Good Question - If I'm still at 15, I'd still draft Ogletree!

Oggie can play at a number of the linebacker positions because of his unique blend of size and athleticism...

Now, if the move is there with say, the Rams, in a deal to gain a Second or Third Round Pick and draft a guy like Jesse Williams, I'd look at that as well...

Ogletree has been projected as both...

Damn, I need an education here. So just for fun we throw Butler into the mix, who is an ILB and who is an OLB on our team?

This was how I see them based on what I've read from neworleanssaints.com yahoo.com, rotoworld, TP etc

2013 New Orleans Saints Defense (Projected)

LDE Cam Jordan, Greg Romeus, Jay Richardson

NT Broderick Bunkley, Akiem Hicks

RDE Will Smith, Tom Johnson, Tyrunn Walker

WLB Jon Vilma, Chris Chamberlain, (Victor Butler, FA)

MLB Curtis Lofton, Ramon Humber, Austin Johnson

SLB David Hawthorne, Martez Wilson

JLB Junior Galette, Braylon Broughton,

CB Jabari Greer, Keenan Lewis, Corey White, Ryan Steed

FS Malcolm Jenkins, Rafael Bush, Jerico Nelson

SS Roman Harper, Isa Abdul-Quddus,

CB Patrick Robinson, Dion Turner, A.J. Davis

While Ogletree would make for a great OLB, he can also shift inside, allowing the team flexibility when faced with either matchups or injuries

Georgia OLB Jarvis Jones met with the New Orleans Saints on March 20.

Jones revealed the information after his pro day, when he also noted that he plans to meet with three more teams in the near future. The three teams are the Kansas City Chiefs, Philadelphia Eagles and Detroit Lions. All four teams are going to be looking to adding more pass-rushers. Jones didn't work out as well as some hoped, but he has violent hands.

Re: 2013 NFL Draft - Saints Big Board

the one i was waiting for is
Kwame Geathers DE/NT Georgia
Height: 6053
Weight:342
Arm Length:3525
Hand Size:905
40 time 5.44/5.35
20 split
10 split 1.88
SS 20: 5.27
3 Cone:8.11
Vert:26.5/29
Broad: 96.0/103
Bench: 21

he is now a solid 4th what holds him back is he has never been a starter. if he is there in the third you need to think long and hard about pulling the trigger. in the fourth i would not think twice

jeanpierre 03-22-2013 07:08 AM

Re: 2013 NFL Draft - Saints Big Board

I prefer TJ Barnes to Geathers...

Stronger, Solid Core Guy compared to Geathers...

Pick Barnes in the fifth and finish developing him and coaching him up at a fraction of the cost...

TJ Barnes yep he is another one thats under the media radar. they both could easly be the last two picks we make also.

in gathers defense he played JCC and 1 year of college at DE and NT. so he is a project. he is a true tweener thats for sure.

Arm Length:3525 effect the bench?

the wing span is freaking scary

Just watched a bit about the Georgia pro day on NFL.com
That 40 time Jones did was on grass against the wind according to Mayock.
It might not be the issue some people think it is.if thats the case.

I think Jordan will be off the board at 15 possibly Ansah could be gone too.Im sold on Ansah personally,i think we need players that can make a impact now as opposed to a project that could come good next year in that department. With that i suppose if we dont sign Butler and go OLB in the first it will be between Jarvis Jones,Mingo and Damontre Moore.
All of them have question marks, how does everyone rank them?

Mingo - He's gonna have to commit. The he takes plays off think is what is dropping him in our range. But am back to I would love to have him.

Datone Jones - I'm pretty big on dropping, and grabbing this guy.... sorta what we wanted from Greg Romeus.

Moore - I don't think he will be there when we pick

Jones - His medical scares me still

I haven't gotten over taking Jenkins over Clay Matthews!

hagan714 03-24-2013 02:26 AM

Re: 2013 NFL Draft - Saints Big Board

which slow defender do you take remember. Clay had more media doubters than Jenkins. IMO thats what the final deciding factor was. Till the combine and pro day beauty shows it was clay hands down.

Olga is a bit different he just aint so pretty off the field and the way the interviews are reported to have gone he was not any prettier. thats what worries me. only the clubs know

then again i am not sold on any of these guys that the predraft has us picking. we need a faller but i am not seeing that happen

Pedestrian numbers for a typically disappointing Tulane Squad this past season- 9GS, 2771 PaYd, PaCp 62.2, 19 PaTD, 11 Int; so what's the big deal? He shows up at the Texas v. The World Game and surrounded with comparable talent to the other signal callers he blows it outta there with Scouts scrambling moving this All-Academic Signal Caller up draft boards...

Why the Saints Will Draft Him? Curtis Johnson, former Saints WR Coach, is the new Tulane Head Coach and will give Sean Payton a no-nonsense, first-hand scouting report that will sneak the Saints an excellent prospect at QB...

Well, maybe Saints interests in not a smoke screen, Saints will take him with their last pick...

Re: 2013 NFL Draft - Saints Big Board

Round 1 Trade!!!!!
Want Lane Johnson OT Oklahoma
Still up in the air here

Round 3
Wanted but gone
Barrett Jones C/G/OT Alabama
Kyle Long, OT/G, Oregon
Jamie Collins, OLB, Southern Miss
Corey Lemonier, OLB Auburn

Brandon Williams, NT, Missouri Southern St
Height: 6012
Weight: 335
Arm Length: 32 5/8
Hand Size: 9 3/4
40 time: 5.37
20
10: 1.79
SS 20:4.91
3 Cone: 8.09
Vert: 29" 1/2
Broad: 8" 06"
Bench: 38
a mammoth 335 pound 3-4 nose tackle. a bit on the raw side, but plays with good leverage and power. lets be honest if Tampa and Panthers do address DT by this point he will not be on the board. But Bunk is signed for the next few years so we have time to develop.

Option
Robert Alford, CB, SE Lousiana:
Brian Schwenke, C, California
Markus Wheaton, WR, Oregon State
Kiko Alonso, ILB, Oregon

Bonehead Red Flag Special
Sam Montgomery, DE, LSU: quitting and betting

I love but Pass on Ryan Swope multi concussion history

Round 4

Annual medical flier

Chris Faulk, OT, LSU
Bench: 25
Faulk ranked among the top offensive tackles in the country. season-ending torn ACL suffered in practice following the 2012 season opener. required separate surgeries a month apart on his medial collateral ligament and anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Orthopedic specialist Dr. James Andrews has given Faulk the "no red flags"
Dr. James “He’s the man.” Andrews
The patients list: Brett Favre, Charles Barkley, Jack Nicklaus, Donovan McNabb, Drew Brees, Dwyane Wade, Tom Glavine and John Smoltz just to name a few

Option
Cornelius Washington, DE/OLB Georgia
David Quessenberry, C/G/OT, San Jose State
Sanders Commings CB Georgia
Reid Fragel OT Ohio St
Dion Sims, TE Michigan State

Round 5

Ty Powell OLB/DE Harding
Height: 6021
Weight: 249
Arm Length: 32.48
Hand Size: 9 3/4
40 time: 4.64
20 split
10 split 1.59
SS 20 4.40
3 Cone: 6.98
Vert: 37.0
Broad: 122
Bench: 28

Powell has played defensive end, safety and now linebacker that versatility works well in a 3-4 defense. He has exceptional ball skills. A high motor player that shows excellent football IQ. Big gamble with a very high reward possible.

Option
Michael Williams, TE/OT, Alabama
Corey Fuller, WR Virgina Tech
William Gholston DE Michigan State
Aaron Mellette WR Elon

Victor Butler signing would change this pick

Annual medical flier
Brennan Williams, OT, North Carolina
Starting potential at right tackle could be a great value pick

Round 6
still up in the air on this one too
Man this and round 7 are loaded with solid depth players. just to name a few.

Kwame Geathers DE/NT Georgia
Manase Foketi OT West Texas A&M
T.J. Barnes, NT, Georgia Tech
Ricky Wagner ROT Wisconsin
A.J. Klein, ILB, Iowa State
Brandon Moore, DT, Texas
Josh Boyd, DT, Mississippi St.
Josh Boyd QB Duke
Ryan Griffin QB Tulane
Cooper Taylor - SS/OLB - Richmond
Nathan Stanley, QB, Southeastern Louisiana
Rod Sweeting, CB, Georgia Tech

If the Saints do trade down getting multi picks in 5 and 6 as part of the package seems to be a smart move at this time

I'd like Ogletree, but if we trade out of the first, I'd want a Round 2 pick this year and trading partner's Round 1 pick next year; send Ivory, Harper to offset compensation...

In any trade scenario, I'd want to maximize Second and Third Round Picks in this year's draft because of the nature of the abundance of second tier talent...

jeanpierre 03-27-2013 07:19 AM

Re: 2013 NFL Draft - Saints Big Board

Draft Strategy:

Right now with limited salary cap room and needs still at OT, OLB, DE, DB, the Saints front office should consider moving back in the draft to gain some more picks...

They've been awful with their first round picks under the Loomis regime with very few exceptions...

I'd look for a scenario where Saints acquire second and third round picks for our first round and fifth round picks or where...

Saints acquire second, third and seventh round picks for our first round and move Ivory or Harper to teams needing either RB or SS...

Potential Trading Partners Arizona, NY Jets who are in need of a power running back and Tennessee where Gregg Williams would love to have Harper back...

Saints would need to restructure Harper's contract to minimize the hit on this season's salary cap prior to trade...

Also, should the Saints sign Asomugha, they could trade Greer a very good defensive back for a second/third round pick to a team in need of CB like Dallas, Buffalo, and Oakland...

The Titans already signed Pollard who plays a fairly similar game as a safety as Harper does, so I'm not so sure the Titans would be willing to make a trade for Harper.

That's a good point, maybe Dennis Allen of Oakland wants Harper back?

Re: 2013 NFL Draft - Saints Big Board

i think we will see harper here till the end of his contract. the saints show loyalty to almost a fault.

I am still hoping one of the top OG drops into our laps in the draft. I think that is the most obvious chance to get the phones ringing. Any team looking at OG and there are plenty within striking distance to jump ahead of the Rams who are pegged to snap that OG up. So many teams in the top 25 have the same shopping list as the rams. well according to the media lol

then we can talk about possible players involved.
