I think we can all agree that we need talent - talent that translates into greatness on the field - no matter what the position or which side of the ball.

i agree but i wonder if SP can pass up yet another toy for the offense. this year has some good ones.
I am still looking at some tapes on line of the kid and SP has to be giggling about what he could do with the kid That or some of those WR/RB/QB speed demons SP seemed to have more fun play calling with Reggie on the team. same with the offense. since that fell through the saints play calling has lost some of its fun factor in its offense. so i have to wonder |

Would like to see Romeus make it through a training camp before we even consider him an option. Right now he's just another camp body... if we can even call him that.

I wonder if Braylon Broughton would be an OLB or a DE in the 3-4..?
I mean he has put on about 20 lbs since he came out of TCU and he's 272 lbs at the moment (6-6), so maybe if he put on some more weight he could be a 3-4 DE. |

Terrell Sinkfield posts 4.19
Northern Iowa receiver Terrell Sinkfield reportedly ran the 40-yard dash in 4.19 seconds at a pro day held Monday at the University of Minnesota. The blazing time came in his second attempt at the 40 and was so fast that he was asked to run a third time, something none of the other prospects who participated in the pro day was asked to do, according to FoxSportsNorth.com. Running Away With It Amid reports that N. Iowa WR Terrell Sinkfield ran a 4.1 40-yard dash, we take a look at the fastest official 40 times at the NFL combine since 2006. I'm like, 'Dang, why do I have to run again?' " Sinkfield reportedly ran 4.27 in his first attempt for an average of 4.3 on the three runs. "I was trying to shoot for a 4.19. I knew it was good when I finished," Sinkfield told The (St. Paul) Pioneer Press. "The fastest I've done [before Monday] was 4.2. I was running 4.3s in high school." Scott Studwell, the Minnesota Vikings' director of college scouting, however, told The Pioneer Press that he didn't have any times under 4.3 for Sinkfield. Well, they could move up from their 22nd in the 1st - which they received from the 'Skins - to have two consecutive picks at 15 and 16 if the right offensive and defensive linemen were there for them, which are both a need for them. Also, based on JP's proposal, they'd be giving up their 2nd rounder while gaining the Saints' 4th rounder, so they wouldn't be decreasing their overall number of picks in the draft. I know it's somewhat unlikely, but if the right player(s) are there, they might be tempted to trade up - just like any other team really. |

Montori Hughes Tennessee-Martin Ohio Valley Photo of Montori Hughes 6'4" Height 32 5/8" Arm Length 329LBS. Weight 10 1/8" Hands Overview Hughes’ collegiate journey has not been ideal, in terms of the maturity and consistency NFL scouts look for in top-tier prospects. Academic issues forced him to go to Hargrave Military Academy for a semester after high school graduation instead of beginning his career with the Tennessee Volunteers. He was suspended for the 2010 regular season finale, as well as from team activities during the following offseason, for violating team academic rules while at Tennessee, and eventually was dismissed from the school after playing a part in a dorm incident in May 2011. Hughes has shown off his agility and strength inside during his time at Tennessee-Martin, however, enticing scouts enough to consider him at least a valuable rotational NFL player. Hughes wound up with 106 tackles, 25 for loss and 13 sacks as a senior at Murfreesboro High School, and his performance at the Toyota East-West All-Star Classic caused UT to have great interest in his services. He enrolled in school in January of 2009, participating in spring practice so he could be prepared to play every game with the Volunteers in his first fall on campus (20 tackles, two for loss). He began his sophomore year as a starter, lining up with the ones the first five games (including once against UTM) before going to a reserve role the rest of the year (17 tackles, 3.5 for loss, one sack). He played in every game, starting seven, for the Skyhawks after his transfer in 2011 (30 tackles, 6.5 for loss, one sack). In his senior season, Hughes managed 31 tackles (8.5 for loss), four sacks, and 13 QB hurries. Analysis Strengths NFL-sized nose tackle with thick upper body and strength through the thighs. Flashes initial quickness off the ball, can drive the center backwards or lift him off the ground post-snap when fully utilizing his strength and explosiveness. Does not give much ground against single or double blocks. Shows the agility to spin off blocks and move to the ball down the line. Provides pressure up the middle with a swim move or quick movement into either A-gap. Quick enough to chase quarterbacks trying to leave the pocket if free from his block, can also force cut backs by ballcarriers by his effort to the ball in the backfield. Works hard to hold the line using his lower body strength, and can split doubles to get to the ball in tight quarters. Flashes violent hands to rip off man-up blocks. Weaknesses Needs to use his hands more consistently to control his man and gain leverage. Can struggle to disengage to make plays. Will anticipate the snap at times, jumping offside or getting off-balance so centers can control him. Lacks closing speed and the ability to break down to make many plays outside the box against elusive ballcarriers. Takes time to recover once on the ground. Played against a lower level of competition after being dismissed from Tennessee, was far from dominant in terms of his strength against better FCS players. Work ethic and stamina has been questioned. NFL Comparison Linval Joseph Bottom Line Hughes is a wide-body nose tackle with the agility scouts and coaches love to see. He needed a prep school detour for academic issues, which dogged him during his time in Tennessee as well before his dismissal from that program. Teams will need to see him prove his work ethic, but if he does, he could be a nice rotational piece for a 4-3 base defensive team at the next level. Dont get why the describe him as a NT then say he could be a nice rotational player for a 4-3.Depends on offfield issue.Mocked as a 5th round pick by Walter football |
Re: 2013 NFL Draft - Saints Big Board
I was just going over the scouting again of Montori Hughes; came away with the impression that the overall production would not be worth the risk he presents; also think he's more suited to a 4-3 proformation defense than the 3-4...

Solid OG He then started all 14 contests at right guard as a redshirt freshman for Nick Saban's first BCS champion Tide squad in 2009. Above average LOT Jones made the rare switch from right guard to left tackle in 2011 to replace James Carpenter, a first-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks. He handled the transition so well (while also playing left guard, right tackle and center at times) for the Bowl Championship Series champions that he received the Outland Trophy as the nation’s best “interior lineman” as well as the SEC’s Jacob Blocking Trophy, given to the league’s best lineman. Solid OC His final year on campus featured another move, this time to the center position. He capped the year off with another consensus selection to the All-American and All-SEC teams, as well as winning the Rimington Trophy (awarded to the nation’s top center) Off the Feild He also possesses the intelligence and high character NFL offensive line coaches desire in their prospects, finishing his degree in accounting in just three years, and won the Wuerffel Trophy for his play on the field and work in the academic and community service worlds. Power and finesses is there. he has starting RT written all over him for years to come. Most people think he is only a OC/OG i dont think so. Pro Bowls? very possible. College awards are there injury history Shoulder his Freshman year dreaded lis franc injury limiting his mobility over the second half of the season. Warning this is not a minor injury. this is my major concern on him. This kind of injury has a habit of resurfacing over and over. serious nagging injury, medical evals are key. if he falls to the third you have to take him. i have actually seen his name in the third now. IMO no way does he fall that far. if the Saints end up with a second rounder they have to really look at him as an option Barrett Jones Draft Profile |

Re: 2013 NFL Draft - Saints Big Board
Representatives from 21 NFL teams gathered at Mississippi State’s pro day on March 6, where 18 players worked out. Notable coaches present were New York Giants defensive line coach Robert Nunn, New Orleans Saints defensive backs coach Wesley McGriff and Denver Broncos defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio.
Johnthan Banks, CB (6-foot-2, 186 pounds) — Banks ran the 40-yard dash in 4.58 and 4.59 seconds, had a 4.28-second short shuttle, and a 34 1/2-inch vertical jump and 10-foot-6 broad jump. While his 40 time was slightly better than the 4.61 seconds he ran at the NFL Scouting Combine, Banks looked good in the positional workout. Darius Slay, CB (6-0, 192) — Slay did not work out in the positional drills after pulling a muscle running the 60-yard shuttle. Slay did manage to do a 32 1/2-inch vertical jump. Slay posted the the best 40-yard dash time (4.36) among defensive backs at the combine. Josh Boyd, DT (6-3, 307) — Boyd ran 5.18 and 5.12 in the 40, and 4.71 in the short shuttle. Boyd looked good in the defensive line drills run by Nunn. He also moved very well in the bag drills. Chad Bumphis, WR (5-10 1/8, 196) — Bumphis ran the 40 in 4.58 and 4.52 seconds, 6.91 in the three-cone drill and 4.26 in the short shuttle. He had a 35-inch vertical and 9-10 broad jump, and performed 17 lifts of 225 pounds on the bench press. Shane McCardell, DL (6-4 1/4, 247) — McCardell ran the 40 in 4.66 and 4.68 seconds, had a 4.38-second short shuttle and 7.09-second three-cone drill. He had a 35-inch vertical and 10-0 broad jump. He lifted 225 pounds on the bench 11 times. McCardell worked out both as a defensive lineman and linebacker at the Bulldogs’ pro day. Neither Bumphis nor McCardell were invited to the combine, and each player is a possible rookie free-agent pickup this spring. Johnthan Banks has slightly faster 40 at Mississippi State Pro Day - NFL.com I'm curious if its Banks or Slay we might be interested in. I like the height in Banks but would have wanted him a little heavier, and faster. |

Those shuttle and cone drill times are interesting, so I'd bring McCardell in for a Free Agent Look - pass on the rest...

Re: 2013 NFL Draft - Saints Big Board
Darius Slay, CB (6-0, 192) - i am always interested in the starting CB teams go after to avoid the star. i would look closer at him
Johnthan Banks, CB (6-foot-2, 186 pounds) Now I see why he played FS starting of in College. His Ball skills moved him to CB. I say back to FS/CB from CB/FS. hmmm worth a peek for sure Shane McCardell, DL (6-4 1/4, 247) Josh Boyd, DT (6-3, 307) |
Re: 2013 NFL Draft - Saints Big Board
Miami Pro Day was today, among others...
CB Brandon McGee may have moved out of the fourth round and up into a Day 2 selection... WR Kendal Thompkins ran a 4.37 seconds 40yd dash... LB Ray Buchanan, despite a season-ending knee injury in October posted a 4.53 sec 40 yd dash, 34" vertical, 10' 8" broad jump... NT Darius Smith, 6' 2"/ 340#, produced 33 reps in the bench press exercise... Bill Belichick was on hand... |
