this year trade down to get into the second. right now it looks like most of the players will be off the board if the combine hype holds true, lol sorry never does for 75% of them.

Truffant is climbing and to take him at 15 does worry me.

the niners are loaded to bear with 15 picks so they are definitely set to be movers and shakers.

lee909 02-27-2013 01:55 PM

If love to trade with them.
Our first for there first and chiefs second. Could still end up with 2 of Jonathan Banks,Arthur Brown,Margus Hunt

Where are you getting that information from?

Jenkins is under contract for only this coming year and he'll be an UFA after that - no way is his cap hit $11M for this coming season.

He signed a 5-year $19M contract with the Saints after they drafted him, and that contract included $11M in guaranteed money.

Jenkins' cap hit for 2013 will be $4.032M according to Spotrac, and I believe that to be accurate.

Per the League office, they have spoke with "sources" that Saints staff members slipped Lotulelei some Red Bull Enhanced New Orleans Chickory Coffee so he'd fall in the draft...

...as such, special Chinese Red Army Three-Kommissar Tribunal Panels will be brought into to hear the case and render the sentence upon the guilty Sean Payton and Saints staff as part of the Rooney/Goodell International Marketing effort to keep the NFL Championship in the Pittsburgh, Baltimore, New England, San Fran, Green Bay, New York Trophy Rotation...

per a "League Source", the Saints are a small market threat to the Lombardi...

I think we can do just fine if we drafted all of our players this year from Bama and LSU and that kid from SMU, Margus Hunt!

LOL!!!

Seriously, an all-SEC draft wouldn't hurt my feelings at all.

I'd bet JP or Hagan could mock a pretty good looking all-SEC Saints draft.

I bet our defense would get good pretty quick picking from two of the very best defenses in all of college football in recent memory.:bng:

Might be worth a late rounder

Trevardo Williams, Connecticut Huskies
Position: Defensive end/Outside Linebacker

Age: 22

Height and Weight: 6'1", 241 pounds

2012 Season Statistics: 42 tackles, 21 solo, 13.5 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, one fumble forced

Projected Round: Early sixth

At 6'1", it's unlikely that Trevardo Williams will find success as a down lineman in a 4-3 scheme.

Fortunately, Williams is one of the most athletically gifted players at his position. For that reason, he has all of the gifts necessary to be a standout 3-4 outside linebacker.

Just check the numbers.

Williams managed to tally 11.5 sacks during his senior season. This comes one year after tearing up opposing offensive lines for 12.5 sacks.

In other words, Williams can get after the quarterback.

At the NFL combine, Williams displayed those physical gifts. He ran a 4.57 40, posted a 38-inch vertical and tallied a 124-inch broad jump.

He also came in fifth among defensive linemen with 30 reps during the bench press.

Assuming he ends up in a 3-4 defense, Williams can be a game-changing pass-rusher. As a result, he could be the latest middle-round sack artist to make a Pro Bowl appearance.

lee909 03-02-2013 01:28 PM

No
Just saw that article today and thought he sounded good based on the write up.Sounds worth a late flyer.

Re: 2013 NFL Draft - Saints Big Board

late flyer?
i see possible bottom second but reality says third round.
if he is around in the fourth? its a no brainer

i am almost to the point of accepting a third for him

do a search i would be surprised if he carries 10% body fat.

still on the ropes with og. but i like the 2 OT might solve some issues down the road

We need to draft or sign at least one CB

Thought about that, but we have Jabari Greer, Patrick Robinson, Corey White, Elbert Mack and we have a limited number of picks and an even tighter cap situation where we may have to sign a proven, yet average player just to fill a role...

see i am looking at round 1 as the round the saints may take a cb or early in day three.

we really need to work this draft by gaining picks for the first in years

I still think Marcel Jones might very well be the answer for the RT position going forward - he has all the physical tools and with guidance he can be a very solid RT for the Saints.

On the other hand, one can never have too many OTs, but as the draft is so heavy on defensive talent - which the Saints desperately need - I'd like to see most of the picks be used on that side of the ball.

Saints have had no more than six picks in a draft since 2007 NFL draft.

This has caught up to them...

That definitely needs to change going forward.

My Mock Draft(optimistic of course)
____________________________

1. (Trade back, gain 2nd Rounder)
Pick: LB Alec Ogletree, Georgia/DE Sheldon Richardson, Mizzou/DB Kenny Vacarro, Texas

(Of course if Jones, DJ, Ziggy, Mingo, Werner, etc fell id love to have em, but im trying to be more on the realistic side)

2. CB David Amerson, NC State

3. NT Brandon Williams, Missouri Southern

4. CB/KR Tyrann Mathieu, LSU(Former)

5. OT/TE Best Available(we can all "hope" a David Quessenberry - SDSU or Dion Sims - MSU type of player is available but thats highly unlikely. but hopefully we can uncover one of those gems again)

6. OLB/DE Quanterus Smith, Western Kentucky

Let me know your thoughts fellas. we can all dream cant we? lets be real though...something is gonna happen thats gonna catch everyone by surprise, its bound to happen. this draft is gonna blow alot of ppls minds. all it takes is one team to change the whole draft.

lee909 03-04-2013 01:54 AM

It will be hard finding a trade partner this year IMO.Its a deep draft but lacking in sure fire starters. Most of the top players have question marks and unless somebody falls in line with a prospect I do t think it would be easy to trade back.
Not keen on Matheiu with a 4th personally. 'd rather get a big CB,too many question marks over him, height, off field issues.

Sarik 03-04-2013 02:10 AM

Re: 2013 NFL Draft - Saints Big Board

im good wit the guy(Mathieu) but i understand your concern. we need as many playmakers we can get. and the kids tape is good despite off the field issues, but we shall see on that.

there are many other options in the mid rounds as well....

CB - Robert Alford, Southeastern Louisiana
OLB/DE - Michael Buchanon, Illinois
OLB/DE - James Gayle, Virginia Tech
S - Bacarri Rambo, Georgia
LB - John Simom, Ohio State
CB - Logan Ryan, Rutgers

other options as well, but u get the point.

Absolutely, and the Saints won't be the only team looking to trade down and gain a later pick because of it, so it probably is best not to even consider that scenario and be pleasantly surprised if it happens.

Actually this draft is very deep in starters - you just don't have those "wow" players this season; of course, we don't have all our picks because of commissioner penalties and a not so thought-out FA signing...

lee909 03-04-2013 05:48 AM

That's what I meant, its a deep draft but few standout players.

hagan714 03-04-2013 05:59 AM

Re: 2013 NFL Draft - Saints Big Board

the problem is the top players well aint that great. the standouts that are in the top ten are not there this year. so everyone is open to trading down. the price maybe right this year for targeting players and moving up. then again maybe not

jeanpierre 03-04-2013 06:07 AM

Re: 2013 NFL Draft - Saints Big Board

Thought Star Lotulelei would be worth moving up to get; but that heart condition is as scary as the spinal stenois Jones has - No Thanks...

While I have an apparent man crush on Ogletree, while not as bad as the one with Clay Matthews a few drafts ago, I think he's the impact player moved to the outside to complement Lofton and take this defense into a top five unit, I wouldn't be disappointed to move back, grab Jesse Williams and gain another second rounder (do I still have false hope of a reversal?!?)...

Those are great options, but a lack of offensive tackles is the problem we have...

Re: 2013 NFL Draft - Saints Big Board

see i have been playing around with the idea say take a chance in the 5th or 6th for

Michael Williams, TE, Alabama
Height: 6-5. Weight: 269

and beef him up a bit if needed and train him to be a TE/OT. he already has the blocking skill. 2 for the price of one type of move

heck he maybe ready to back up now as it is. plus you get a true tackle eligible player

We could always geaux like the Pats and get another TE that way you got two big guys beating up the secondary...

So, 52 pages here and it looks like the one thing we agree on is we need tackles -on both lines and just generally when our defense is on the field. Right?
