I could live with taking Evans there, but I don't think a Sean Payton/Saints pick in the first round will ever be a linebacker again...

Thomas is too short for what we need a TE to do and that is to box out defenders in the red zone and provide an obscene catch radius...

Love the picks of Neal and Fitts where you have them...

Really like Warner and Gossett, but I think they're going a round ahead of where you have them...

Nice list Chris!!!

Wynn is only 6' 2" and I'm not sure he's a fit for the Saints interior heavy scheme...

We're seeing his ceiling and he will get used by more experienced, disciplined defensive NFL linemen...

This is where I’m having trouble with us not having a 2nd round pick. All of the really good pass catching TE’s like Gesicki, Hurst, Goedert, etc are all likely to be gone by our 3rd round pick.

Three Starting Left Tackles - Armstead, Peat, Ramczyk - is one too many; we should've move one last offseason, must do it now...

Move the guy who needs constant adulation of how tough he is and keep the two soldiers who've come in and quietly done their job...

It's a lot easier to find right tackles and big guards, so I'd move Ramczyk to LT, trade Armstead and his cap number...

You'd have a helluva left side and when Peat's rookie deal comes due he can either move him or grab a left tackle...

Ramczyk is the Left Tackle we need...

Dalton Schultz is a very intriguing project from Stanford . He is an EXceptional blocker
Compares to Jason Witten.
He has good hands and catches the ball with his hands extended away from his body.
This is a player that IMHO will be a better pro than college football player
He wasn't use well in Stanford's offense.
Might be there when we pick in the third rd.

Here is a guy who played well as a sophomore but kind of disappeared last season. According to coach "O" Key took a "leave of absence" pre spring camp for personal reasons, then had surgery later in the season & missed a multiple games. He has all of the physical tools to transition at the elite level, however I question his motivation.

At pick #27? ... I think I'd pass.

Expected more numbers out of Rankins, but our NTs aren't keeping OLs honest and Rankins can't beat double teams he's drawing...

Value Taven more here because he and Rankins can both switch between DE and DT3, allowing greater flexibility in matchups...

I'd agree that whatever happened last year with Arden Key needs close scrutiny and an extended personal interview...

But Key's two previous years of production are hard to ignore as he was going against many O-linemen now in the NFL...

Re: 2018 NFL Draft Prospects - Saints

I always enjoy Matt Miller’s draft coverage over at Bleacher Report. This morning he put out a full 7 round mock draft. Here’s what he has the Saints doing:

27. New Orleans Saints

The Pick: LB Malik Jefferson, Texas

The upcoming offseason will be an interesting one for the New Orleans Saints. Quarterback Drew Brees has said he wants to return, but we've all learned that what people say and do can sometimes be two different things. Other free agents—like safety Kenny Vaccaro—likely won't be back as the team churns the roster and players look for money and opportunities elsewhere. Who stays and goes will ultimately shape the draft for the Saints.

It'll be hard to top the 2017 draft class that brought Marshon Lattimore, Ryan Ramczyk, Alvin Kamara and Marcus Williams to the roster; but the Saints have a reputation now for a well-honed front office. Those evaluators should see a defense that badly needs speed and playmakers in the front seven.

Malik Jefferson is a special athlete who will post rare times at the scouting combine, but some teams are struggling to reconcile that with his film that was at times uninspiring. Jefferson, playing middle linebacker, was a step late occasionally but was able to make up for it with speed. You can't do that in the NFL, of course, but with coaching and reps at just one position instead of jumping all over the defense, Jefferson could be a high-level starter.

91. New Orleans Saints S Jordan Whitehead, Pitt

123. New Orleans Saints EDGE Kemoko Turay, Rutgers

138. New Orleans Saints (from Miami) WR Dante Pettis, Washington

155. New Orleans Saints QB Riley Ferguson, Memphis

175. New Orleans Saints (from Arizona) CB Michael Joseph, Dubuque

187. New Orleans Saints LB Dorian O'Daniel, Clemson

219. New Orleans Saints OT Greg Senat, Wagner

Re: 2018 NFL Draft Prospects - Saints

Don't trust Malik Jefferson; he reminds me of Dannell Ellerbe...

Everything I’ve read lately compares Taven Bryan to JJ Watt. Tremendous momentum pushing him up draft boards at the moment. I haven’t watched one second of his game tape yet but it’s sounding like he could be the first DT off the board.

Re: 2018 NFL Draft Prospects - Saints

Todd McShay Mock Draft 2.0

27. New Orleans Saints - Harold Landry, OLB, Boston College

I don’t have Todd’s reasoning for the pick but just as food for thought here’s some Harold Landry info from NFL.com’s draft profile...

Sources Tell Us
"He's just like (Vic) Beasley coming out with the way he comes off the snap. You remember how Beasley struggled early because he had to learn to be a pass rusher and not just a sprinter? I think Landry might be the same early on. When he puts it together, he'll do what Beasley did." -- NFC team pro personnel director

NFL Comparison
Bruce Irvin

Bottom Line
Landry lacks premium size, but his burst, stride length and ability to dip and rip around the edge give him special potential as an edge rusher. Landry lacks strength at the point of attack and may be a designated pass rusher early in his career. While he can play standing for 3-4 teams, he's at his best with his hand in the dirt as a rusher. Landry can get by as an NFL rusher with just speed and athleticism, but he has an opportunity to become a Pro Bowler if he can improve his hand usage and develop an inside counter.

You really think that would work for us? See, I think they're looking for a Cam Jordan clone, a book end...

Our defensive strategy seems to be big beef up front to contain the QB, RB lanes...

Sit back in nickel and dime coverages and let our athletic defensive backs make plays...

Linebackers are used to clean up, assist in coverage, and to create add'l pressure on the passer...

Again I'm interesting in hearing Mayock's analysis as we come closer to the draft. He's one of the most well-respected draft guys around.

I wasn't specifically speaking of Landry. Just guys we talk about here on the forum ;).

Understand Major; irregardless of the thumbs up or down from Mayock on the quality of a player, it's the proto-type of DE I was asking...

My point is differentiating between a hybrid DE/LB like Landry vs a Strongside, Big 4-3 DE as Cam is...

I'm asking do you think Payton/DA has a preferred ideal of a 6' 4"-6' 6" 275-290 lbs defensive ends on both ends?

And I'm saying that's what they want - to recreate the 2009 squad that had the DE tandem of Will Smith-Charles Grant...

If a Draft were held after the 2011 season, all players thrown into a draft pool, where would Brees be drafted? The height thing re: Baker Mayfield is blow-hole smoke for the weak-minded kids...

Sam Hubbard is not athletic enough? Nevermind that he locks down the edge or is productive with Sks and TFLs; another Buckeye, Panthers' FA LG Andrew Norwell, he was not athletic enough - he should frame his pending big, fat contract 8.5 X 14 frame with a border wrapped frame that keeps repeating not athletic enough...

Who the heck is Will Dissly?!? This was literally the first time I’ve seen his name mentioned.

I'm just wondering how many times that guy gets jabbed about his name? whistling Dixie?

I’m so intrigued lately by this guy:

OLB/DE Lorenzo Carter, Georgia; Height: 6-6; Weight: 242 lbs

I would have him playing SLB in base and DE in sub-packages. His length and sideline-to-sideline range is incredible. Could he possibly last until the 3rd round or will he have a meteoric rise like former Bulldog Leonard Floyd?

Interesting fact: Carter was high school teammates with Alvin Kamara.

Nice - Payton likes going right into his clubhouse and getting first-hand scouting reports; but I find that works two ways...

Sometimes we get guys in the clubhouse, good guys, but they're not really good players, just podnahs that needed an NFL gig...

He's a lot like Kikaha, and is limited as a 3-4 OLB...

^^^ It appears Leighton (honestly, I'd never heard of him until last month) is rising up the draft boards as of late.

Questions I have are ...

How is his hip movement/change of direction?
Instincts ?
Ability to shed off defenders ?
Sideline to sideline closing speed as a tackler (see Deion Jones/Kuechly)?
Coverage ability in space ?
