I'd be happy with EITHER of these players. It's super early but I've seen both of these ballers "mocked" to us with our 1st pick. That Ohio State pipeline (Thomas, Lattimore, Bell) has been good to us last couple of years :p.

I'll be interested to hear what Mike Mayock says about a lot of our prospects in the coming weeks. He's one guy I respect in NFL player evaluation. Doesn't put a lot of stock into the combine but more analysis on actual game tape.

Anyone you have your eye out for at the Senior Bowl?

Here’s some guys that I hear have looked great in practice so far who aren’t the big names:

TE Ian Thomas, Indiana; 6’ 3”, 256 lbs
TE Durham Smythe, Notre Dame; 6’ 5”, 253 lbs
C Mason Cole, Michigan; 6’ 4”, 303 lbs
OL Austin Corbett, Nevada; 6’ 4”, 310 lbs
LB Fred Warner, BYU; 6’3”, 235 lbs
S Siran Neal, Jacksonville St; 6’0”, 206 lbs
CB MJ Stewart, North Carolina; 5’10”, 198 lbs

I really liked what draftanalyst.com had to say about LB Fred Warner:

I liked what Warner showed today. He was fast and fluid, quickly got to the spot and covered a lot of area on the field. I also liked the discipline and smarts he showed, making sure his teammates were in the proper position.

Kyzir White is having his second dominant day of practice... Looks like hoping our Vaccaro replacement would fall to us at the end of the 3rd round may be a long shot.

Big kid with range. I'll definitely look out for him on Saturday.

I go back to something you said a couple of pages ago about how when evaluating LB’s it’s all about INSTINCTS. A guy doesn’t have to have 4.4 speed if he’s never out of position and can diagnose where the play is going. Fred Warner has my attention!

If they really want to make this thing interesting - NFL Football Steeplechase with the helmet and full pads!!!

Something like a ten yard burst vs dummy out of a two, three or four point stance, go into a 3-cone shuttle ending by tackling a dummy, chase down a rolling fumble for ten yards, then stop and go into a 25 yard sprint catching a ball at the end...

In my sixth round targets group, I listed an OT from Humboldt State named Alex Cappa...

When I read first hand accounts of his play on line, recognized certain words, phrases that jump out at me re: offensive linemen...

Nasty, Bullies Defensive Linemen, man amongst boys, and one of my favorites, neutralized...

Well, after having seen this clip, I may have to move this guy up to at least the fourth round group now...

That's Marcus Davenport that Cappa just tossed like a rag doll...

In case it hasn't been obvious, Terron Armstead aka Mr. Glass is a pusse' and I'm tired of the columns, tweets each season, each game how he braved through injuries...

Look all those guys have braved through injuries; for Pete's sake, Zach Strief looked like he was strapped together with CopperFit™ spare parts each week...

Andrus Peat getting mediocre reviews at LT when he practices at LG all week only to find out he's gonna play LT at or just as a game gets underway...

It's the Byrd Experience all over again

And now that Mr. Glass got his Big Mo, he's a No Show; ship his arse out now and get that second rounder back...

Right Tackles are easier to find than LT; move Ramczyk to LT, let Peat remain at LG; draft a nasty RT...

Re: 2018 NFL Draft Prospects - Saints

Another observation about the Senior Bowl...

Both teams have four (4) quarterbacks each...

The South has Kyle Lauletta, Kurt Benkert, Brandon Silvers, and Mike White...

The North has Baker Mayfield, Josh Allen, Luke Falk, and Tanner Lee...

Isn't Oklahoma slightly further South than Kentucky??? Those South QBs really have a chance to strut...

I always thought that the College Football Mason-Dixon line was more fluid and not as static as this...

Re: 2018 NFL Draft Prospects - Saints

JP, to piggyback on your take about maybe finding a RT and moving Ramczyk to LT... I thought I’d throw out two other names scouts are liking at the Senior Bowl:

Brandon Parker, North Carolina A&T; 6’7”, 303 lbs

Brett Toth, Army; 6’5”, 303 lbs

His name has come up quite a bit over the last few days. If Marcus had played at UT in Austin, he'd probably be a household name leading up to the draft. I guess if he is any good, the scouts will find you.

Toth's ceiling is comparable to Kelemete; he'd be a solid R6, R7 pick to replace Kelemete as that utility lineman...

Parker has athleticism, moves well, but we already have that in Mr. Glass; I'd prefer that 16 game Dependable Rock in the lineup...

Another guy we could get with a fifth round depending on his medicals is Iowa's Ike Boettger; former TE playing RT, G...

As usual it has to be "THE KID" Can't Miss with "THE KID"

By the way I live in the middle of Indiana and it's the most "Southern State" I've lived in beating out Alabama and South Carolina by a wide margin!!

Senior Bowl weigh in results on Baker Mayfield:

6' 3/8 inches tall
216 lbs
9 1/2 inch hands

To put hand size into perspective ...

Joe Flacco (9.63)
Aaron Rodgers (9.38)
Derek Carr (9 1/8)
Andy Dalton (9 1/2)
Michael Vick (8.5) --- > freak athlete
Fig Newton (9 7/8)

Based on Baker's recorded height and hand size ...I'd say he'll be off the board rather quickly.

Shhh ...

Last time Jeff Ireland picked up a stud from a small town college program it was DeMarcus Ware ;). And yes, Siran's name was called a few times in the upset win vs LSU in Baton Rouge last season.

His scouting report states he can play in the nickel, corner & near the LOS. Sounds like a younger, cheaper KVacarro to me :bng:.

Decisions, decisions.

It would be nice if Ward or Jackson would fall to us. We need another top CB. Goedert or Chark in the 3rd. We are just a few pieces away from a championship.

Well, Siran Neal is officially outta the bag at the Senior Bowl - another highlight and some spotlight was thrown his way...

Now, I'm thinking he's gone no later than the late third, early fourth round...

What’s your guys take on UCF LB Shaquem Griffin? I don’t think I’ve seen him talked about here. His athleticism, instincts and intensity are elite. If not for only having one hand he would be right up there with Roquan Smith as a top LB in this draft.

He’s really only suited to be a weak side LB due to his size and some difficulty getting off blocks but would you take a flier on him in the later rounds?

Agreed.

From the highlights I've seen ... he does a more with less (one hand) than a most do with two hands. Acceleration & has second gear giddy up. XM NFL radio analyst (I think it was Kirwin) seem to believe that Griffin will transition to the safety position at the next level. He is by no means just a "feel good story" ... he is a baller & has unique skills.

Would I take a flyer on him in the later rounds? Absolutely.

I can’t seem to move off of taking LB Rashaan Evans with our first round pick if he’s still there. He’s just too good of value at a position of need. I know we have Craig Robertson and Alex Anzalone playing weak side LB but I just can’t pass up Rashaan Evans because of them.

Taven Bryan and Cam Jordan in the same front line would just be devastating; then you rotate in Onyemata, Rankins, Hendrickson, Davison...

They're are good, smart MLBer through three rounds who can cover; Bryan reminds me of a bigger, faster Derland Moore...

Josey Jewell and Tegray Scales are nice options in the 3rd-4th round. Haven’t really looked into Taven Bryan much.

Wynn was Pancaking everyone he went against. Would love to add him to the fold. Probably a 2nd rd pick which we don’t have.

Amen! I’d be very, very tempted to take him at 27 and plug him in at LG while kicking Peat out to LT. He would be a slight reach in the first round but that’s kind of subjective. I don’t think you can go wrong reinforcing the trenches with great players like him.
