Trevon Diggs (younger brother of Vikes WR Stephon) - CB Alabama

Darkhorse pick @ 24. Has length, turns his head around to play the ball and
"fits" cover 3 scheme that Dennis runs.

This is one to really keep an eye on for our 3rd round pick. He has the versatility Payton loves on the O-Line starting 22 games at LG, 21 at RT and 2 at LT in his college career.

He's a solid run blocker but he'd be a liability in pass protection which is problematic for what the Saints offense uses its guards; he's more of a Steelers-type guard, who have set up a private workout as well...

He's only 6' 3" and lacks the length on the side to stump inside pass rushers...

Rashard Lawrence - DT LSU

Has good hand placement and leverage.

The bad : Technique needs work & time to develop. Possible late round flyer.

We spent a third for a guy in a small conference that played against small to medium college talent and it shows in the pros. I know health has a lot to do with tre not getting it going and he scores some nice TDs that JP could have caught also. Get a big time player from a big time conference that is all.

It’s going to be interesting if all the draft festivities get cancelled thanks to the Coronavirus. They’ll be taking the old school, stripped down approach.

You're right, via video conference if necessary and that includes upcoming Pro Days across the country. Old school.

As a matter of fact, the Saints have pulled their scouts off the road according to a few reports.

I was just thinking about that. I'm sure that will happen. No fans. Everything done remotely was my guess.

Honestly, I’d be happy not having the ridiculous spectacle again for a change. Just have Goodell and team reps in a hotel conference room.

Yeah. All of that stupid assed hugging of Goodell turned my stomach. I'd just as soon wait and find out who we got after it was over. I know some see the draft almost as a sport itself, but all it does is seem to piss those people off rather than entertain.

And, yes, you know who is included in that number here.

;)

Multiple teams have canceled all travel which means athletes pro days. I heard rumbling on NFL Radio that it wouldn't be surprising if free agency and the draft was pushed back to June, perhaps. The league just announced that the March league meeting where rule changes are addressed along with other business have been canceled and everything will be pushed back to the next scheduled meeting in May.

It'd be real interesting if the Draft took place before first few weeks of Free Agency...

Bump …

Any chance the Saints "trade up" in the draft for that Clemson LB. Can't recall his name at the moment.

LB Isaiah Simmons, Clemson; Height: 6' 4"; Weight: 238 lbs?

He's a Top 7 pick and that'd be a loooong way up the draft. Then again, Sean P isn't without precedent (Davenport), and just guaranteed $33mil to LG Andrus Peat...

Thanks JP …

Yes Simmons. Maybe, just maybe he falls far enough the way Ramz did a few drafts ago.

I know I'm dreaming though.

Our pick seems like a prime spot to go CB. We have no depth there. If I had to guess I’d say right now we should lean toward picking a boundary CB.

Good point XVI.

I think that the Sanders signing gives the Saints more flexibility at pick 24.

CB, LB are my choices. Two NFC South contenders (Panthers, Bucs) upgraded at QB so we need guys who can cover.

Yep signing Sanders definitely puts us in a fantastic situation when it comes to the first round. If we still want to add another WR we can feel a lot more comfortable about waiting until the 3rd round for a guy like Van Jefferson.

With all of the QB’s, O-Linemen and WR’s probably going earlier in the first round, we’ll likely have our pick of any CB not named Okudah or CJ Henderson.

Separating Davenport factors out, taking away how foolishly Payton overspent, taking away just a first round pick, what you have left is a talented edge rusher who hasn't shown the fortitude of health for 16gms...

Would we not take AJ Epenesa if he's there at 24? Javon Kinlaw looks like he's gone in the Top 15. So Edge Rusher has to be a consideration as well...

As deep as CB2 and WRZ are in this draft, we need to call teams with two R2s (e.g. IND, CHI, MIA) and move back get those twos; the WR we take in the second round could have a first round grade, just saying...

ChrisXVI 03-21-2020 03:56 PM

Re: 2020 NFL Draft: Saints Prospects

I personally wouldn’t take Epenesa at 24. He’s much better suited to play on the inside than on the edge. He has no bend whatsoever and no burst.

Think he looks and plays exactly like Cam Jordan, who was also taken at No. 24...

Not to high jack Draft talk but I want Marcus Davenport to work out in NO. The talent/ability is there but ...

Those injuries though. He can't help us in late January if he's wearing street clothes.

And maybe part of getting him to success is bringing in another edge rusher to take the load off until he can build his core strength to take the NFL punishment; that's why I brought it up as well...

Good point actually. Cam Jordan was thought of as a better fit at 5 tech as well. I should watch some more of Epenesa with that in mind.

Re: 2020 NFL Draft: Saints Prospects

If we choose the BPA at #24 so be it.

Saints do need another young play maker at WR. I'm not counting on Trequan Smith to make much "noise". Anything he does in a positive manner is lagniappe. Love the Sanders signing however he's 33.

I believe an ELITE WR will be there at #24 though. Jefferson, Mims, Claypool, Higgins are impact guys who can improve your team right away.

Weapons.
