he is interesting an at 31. this is a pick i could see happening. upside all the way. i watched a lot of Virgina football and he has improved each and every year but i never though he would be a bottom of the first type of player. one of two possibilities here, he does have that upside or this is a weak class at OLB at this point in the draft , that like the QB, they are getting more hype do to their glorified position.

I would rather see the saints finishing the job they started up front on the OL which I have little faith in them completing. they never complete what they start. but thats just me.

I think at 31 you have other options open to you that are safer picks on both sides of the ball. this may be the spot to look at CB OT OG DT because when pick 44 comes around the picking will probably get mighty thin and your talking third tier talent pool by then. grab the best from the second teir vs the bottom of the first tier is not a bad thing to do. pats live with this way of picking players. pick a player based on what he is not on what he might be.

i am open to trading back into the top second and getting that 4th rounder back. plus something else of course in 2016 ;)

But not picking from the over glorified positions make for a boring draft.

But a boring draft may be just what this team needs

heck sell me on the kid. i am open to it

This writer has a pretty decent bead on the Saints and seems to have taken a first-person study of what's going on with the team...

Pick No. 13 options:
Brandon Scherff, La'El Collins, Danny Shelton, Trae Waynes,DeVante Parker

If these players are gone start listing to trade option because at 13 i am not crazy about options after them. trade back get picks and increase your ability to move around in the draft in more rounds.

IF Eli Harold is still there at 31, and we didn't have Vic Beasley on board at that point, I think you gotta really pause and consider that...

After Harold, the next best fit at OLB is Zo Mauldin out of Louisville and you gotta reach and take him with the 2nd round pick...

Know some people hate this, but we ****ed the pooch winning that Tampa Game...

Lovie pretty much handed our arse to us for three quarters, and then they threw the game...

Nothing wrong with pitching a battle to win the war...

Scherff, maybe Shelton, are the only guys I'd want at 13, unless some improbability Beasley falls and that's not happening...

Like Shelton's game, but his playing style and longevity in the NFL don't seem conducive...

Trade up for Beasley or trade back to the 18-24 range and take Virginia's Eli Harold, Florida St's Eddie Goldman, Oregon's Jake Fisher, Wake Forest's Kevin Johnson...

Jordan Phillips would be my pick. Another late round pick to condition up is Terry Williams East Carilina 6'1 353 lbs. read up on that monster. Both are ideal fits in a 3-4. Williams could be had in the 6th and sit on the practice squad for a year. I like a NT with a low center of gravity.

Jordan Phillipss scares me. back injury and the lack of experience head my list

Malcom Brown juries still out for me. top ten talent? or mid 20s? consistency is my biggest issue with him. were as Shelton - he is consistent but has to be part of a rotation IMO.
i am hoping cleveland takes him so we do not have to think about it. i am on the fence about the kid

Hagen, they all scare me. 1 wrong pick at any position that high that don't work out sets a team back, sometimes for years. Phillips to me could be had in the late 2nd to 3rd round and not as much of a risk as being a 1st. I'm looking at more solid picks without all the hype than the risky ones. The other guy I listed Williams he is a sleeper pick I like and wouldn't cost an arm and leg to coach up. Resigning Bunkley suprized the he!! out of me and Jenkins hasn't stepped up as of yet. NT has to get fixed or it will be last season all over again.

Guess it's no secret who I'm crushing on for the draft; since the combine, it's been Beasley for those new to the planet...

Figure we've got to get to either WAS fifth pick or NYJ sixth pick to make it happen...

It'll have to be announced at the time of the draft to minimize counter offers from CHI, ATL and to be sure that he's there when we move up...

Reviewing the Trade Value Chart for reference...

2014 NFL Draft Trade Value Chart

We'd have to trade both our 1's, BUT we would have to insist on a swap of Second round picks to increase the likelihood we get our MLB in round 2 (my preference is fellow Clemson alum, Stephone Anthony)...

Can't help but question that we traded Graham to Seattle just because of a 28 year old Center or just to send a msg to our troops; can't help but think the TVC was factored in the decision...

Round 1 Pick 31:*Eli Harold, OLB, Virginia

Round 2 Pick 12:*Stephone Anthony, ILB, Clemson

Round 2 Pick 17 (K.C.):*Jordan Phillips, DT, Oklahoma

Round 5 Pick 18:*Darren Waller, WR/TE, Georgia Tech

Round 6 Pick 11:*Miles Dieffenbach, OG, Penn State

Round 7 Pick 13:*Josh Robinson, RB, Mississippi St.

I'd have liked another guard but Marpet and Jackson went second round when i thought one would be there at start of third. Cedric Ogbuehi may need a year on IR but that gives him time to strengthen his body and game.

I still don't get all the love for Anthony, he is rated 4th as ILB and often side steps when tackling, gets lost in the shuffle when trying to get at rb.s. Why all the love?

League source informs me since the Randy Gregory story broke almost a half dozen new teams scheduled visits, San Diego & Pittsburgh included

Might not be all bad if a team really wants him if he falls to 13.

Sarik,
Agree with you 100%. I went to three of his games last year & the guy makes plays. The ceiling is high for him in my opinion. He may run a 4.69/4.7 but I see a 4.5 LB on the field.

A gamer.

I love my LSU Tigers, but I also love my Saints and I want the best players no matter what school he went to.

That being said Jalen Collins is a Dud with a capital D!!! Dude was getting burnt almost every game. It's a joke that he's being mentioned in the first round. At best he should be drafted in the 3rd round and that might be too early.

Sorry fellow Tigers but that's my opinion and I'm sticking with it.

He actually ran a 4.9 in the 40 at the combine.

In my opinion Collins needs work... average at best. Doesn't always turn his head to the ball, slow to react at times (good WR's will burn this kid).

I think there are better options out there at the corner position.

saints greatest weakness is now there greatest strength.

back on the radar round 5/6 a Scott Fujita clone? just a bit more athletic. nailed all the shuttles and the cones the combine but 4.7 40? i only watched a few byu games and he always stood out.

OLB Alani Fua BYU. 6046 236

4.7 to 4.5 in the forty at pro day

Still, the 6-foot-5, 238-pound father of two had one last little thing to prove — that he is faster than the 4.73-second time he posted in the 40-yard dash at the combine.

"Mission accomplished," Fua said after running something around a 4.5 in the 40 at BYU's Indoor Practice Facility in front of representatives of at least 28 NFL teams. "I felt like I improved everything that I wanted to come out and improve. So it was a successful day."

BYU football: Former Cougars show their stuff at Pro Day in Provo | The Salt Lake Tribune

Strengths
Extremely versatile and often moved around the field in a single game. Rushed passer from the slot, A- gap and outside linebacker spot. Fluid in space. Frequently covered slot receivers. Good awareness in zone coverage. Zeroes in on target and tackles with consistency. Long rusher with burst off snap and acceleration to close. Takes a tight track to quarterback as rusher, playing with lean and leverage to squeeze the pocket. Can slip blocks, but generally leveraged his gap against run.

Weaknesses
Hybrid player lacking NFL-caliber edge-setting size and strength. Doesn't have enough explosive power behind his pads to convert speed to power as pass rusher. Primarily a run-and-rip rusher who must develop his hands and a counter move. Appears to study the play rather than being a reactive, instinctive player. Had a bad habit of coming under some blocks, losing outside contain.

Bottom Line
Angular outside linebacker prospect with impressive burst off the snap. He's in need of more bulk before he can be counted on to take on NFL run blockers. Fua could post impressive numbers at the NFL Scouting Combine, and he is a wild card who can be moved around the field by a creative defensive coordinator, but he still needs time to grow into his tall frame and become a more polished pass rusher.

40 Time: 4.74.
Projected Round (2015): 2-3.
3/7/15: At the Combine, Smith had a quality 40 time and workout. He looks to have solidified his stock as a second-day pick between his Combine, Senior Bowl and final season of tape.

Smith was one of the Bulldogs' top defenders who led a tough defense in 2014.For the year, he had 48 tackles with 15 tackles for a loss, nine sacks, two forced fumbles, three passes broken up and two interceptions. Smith looked greatly improved over his junior year when he had 44 tackles and 2.5 sacks. As a sophomore, Smith totaled 35 tackles and 4.5 sacks.
