Former #Falcons RB Devonta Freeman has reached a 1-year deal with the #Saints, per agent @DrewJRosenhaus. He’s on a visit there now.

I honestly don't understand this move.

No MT for at least a month, pending suspension (2 games min) with Deonte Harris, expect Ty Montgomery to get more reps at WR.

17 game season is brutal in the NFL. No need to beat down Latavius or AK. Freeman could be nothing more than a camp body or he could have something left. Adding another “body” surely won’t hurt at camp.

More importantly there is zero risk involved with his signing.

Agreed, I rather Amukamara on the outside than Poole, CGJ, or Prob

It only matters that they understand this move. As Major pointed out, you can never have too much depth. I seem to remember a year where we were picking up RB's off the street late in the year.

This. The signing could spare AK a lot of snaps in preseason and maybe even into the regular season. He’s an experienced back who can catch out or the backfield.

I see other areas of need before RB especially with the Saints being over the cap. If Freeman gets vet minimum (with Rosenhaus as his agent?!) then maybe I understand the move a little. But any available money should be addressing the needs in the back seven for the defense.

Devonta Freeman’s salary is only guaranteed “IF” he is on the opening day roster. Let someone else take the abuse in pre season games.

Again, very little financial risk here.

Hadn’t seen it posted anywhere ….

Rather sign Kwon and have him as his coverage is better...

Never said he was stupid. Just said that the ones that made the decision did not make it without reason and none of us know that reason.

CB was a glaring hole & desperately needed to be addressed first.

Really like the drafting of Mr. Mansfield (Paulson Adebo), however I just don't want to see him thrust into action too early & lose confidence as a rookie. Bring him along ... until Kris Richard thinks he's ready for 4 quarters.

For what it's worth, I've read other teams have "interest" in Kwon however he hasn't made any other visits. Really believe he wants to be back in N.O.

Plan B - K.J. Wright :p

Exactly. There is more than enough time to sign whatever is needed and I believe that those involved have a better idea than any of us what is truly needed. The capital is there, as well. Agree, Major?

K. J. Wright? Absolutely!

1. Saints aren't over the cap
2. KMajor hit the nail on the head
3. The roster is at 90 now so you'd imagine every position has been addressed

But the Saints are way over the cap for next year; even if cap rises significantly, doesn't leave a lot of room...

See if he's not starting right away, he probably never will...

Find out what you got, let other teams develop free agents...

I seem to recall hearing it every offseason, yet we always end up not only UNDER the cap, but signing enough players to reach the playoffs.

I know but thought the position we cut may lead to something. Really, I'm looking waaaaay too deep into things. It's what I do when we finally have real football.

Seeing all this turnover at the bottom of the roster at CB has me now asking this question, is Kris Richard that quick a read to know who's wasting his time?

While Kris was up here coaching the Cows, he moved Byron Jones from safety to a CB (great move) & molded Awuzie into a solid #2 CB who is now nicely paid with the Bengals.

I sure as hell hope they are actively listening to his input. KR isn’t going to “settle” for mediocrity at the cornerback position. That goes for Lattimore as well.

I read somewhere he's having an excellent camp so far.

Sean, D.A. and Mickey must really like what they have behind David Onyemata not to bring in a veteran...
