Already closed the door on developing Ian Book?

I simply can't see the Saints going QB in the 1st -3rd rounds.

Especially from this QB draft class.

Been thinking this too. I'd give him a whole lot of real time in camp - he earned that at least for the beating he took.

I was about to ask the exact same thing. We just drafted a project QB in Book. Why draft another right away when we have one that can start (Hill) under contract, and another that is in my opinion much better that we would have a good chance of bringing back in Winston?

To say the beating that Ian took, he made some nice throws too.

Guy was running for his life every play and the OL didn't give a ****.

Gotta give him a chance with actual players to help him.

I'm still amazed that 'some people' (see post #409) tried to assess Book's ability based on that game. That was a blood bath brought on by poor management and absurd covid ignorance.

Definitely wasnt set up for success but he did as well as could be expected. Nobody can question his toughness thats for sure.

First off, I apologize for hijacking your reply, Dude, but that's how I saw this reference to my earlier post (#409):

I did not refer to Book's ability at all in my post, especially based on that game.

I posted, "We just drafted a project QB in Book. Why draft another right away when we have one that can start (Hill) under contract, and another that is in my opinion much better that we would have a good chance of bringing back in Winston?"

I was at that game and he had no chance at times. There were times when he had someone open, but he's just a rookie and could not be expected to make that deep a read in a progression.

The point of my post was that we had Book already and there is no reason to draft yet another rookie when the one we have hasn't even been given a chance to mature into the position.

Yeah, really like Bruss as a LG upgrade from Peat; trade Peat in a contract redux to get the Saints cap relief, move on from one of Loomis' worse contracts...

Does the aversion to drafting LSU players come to a close with Sean's exit?

I wasn't referring to that post, only to YOU, because the minute people started saying they wanted to see him play you started attacking them for it, myself included, and after his performance you were leading the "he's not qualified" charge. Because you don't know anything unless its on twitter.

I would say nice dodge, but you're not even any good at that.

Jameson Williams - WR Bama

Hes making good progress post surgery, doctors seem pleased and expect him to be back to 100 %/maintain that 4.3 speed. With those type wheels, hell keep defenses honest.

Second round, Id take a flyer on him.

K, I hope you're right but I doubt either Williams OR Metchie is there at #49.

I'd seriously consider taking Williams at 18 or possibly trading up for Metchie in early round 2. They're that good.

We're so bad at WR, I wouldn't be mad if we drafted BOTH!

Re: 2022 NFL Draft: Draft Prospects, Scouting

Don't want to see the Saints mess around with the WRz spot this season; sign DJ Chark, proven commodity, and someone who definitely will open up the passing lanes...

That way we are not locked into a draft pick on Day 1, early Day2 at WR - Draft BPA; other than Treylon Burks, not really sold on the top WRs in the draft this season...

To good of a FA crop not to in my opionion. Chark will cost but he is good. I could see a WR in the mid to late rounds. Thomas, Chark, Calloway and Harris could be deadly.

Re: 2022 NFL Draft: Draft Prospects, Scouting

Didnt we try the middle round route at WR 3 years ago?

The result was Trequan Smith.

Scouts gotta do a better job of scouting talent.

Re: 2022 NFL Draft: Draft Prospects, Scouting

Romeo Doubs-Nevada
Dontario Drummond- Ole Miss
David Bell-Purdue
That's just a few that can be had in mid to later rounds. I'm more concerned about getting a really good TE than WR. Wr's are plentiful in FA and the draft.

Re: 2022 NFL Draft: Draft Prospects, Scouting

RB's I'm liking:
Dameon Pierce-Florida
Hassan Haskins- Michigan
Leddie Brown- West Virginia
I trade Kamara, we could get really good picks for him even after his Vegas ordeal.

Meanwhile these Alabama WRs keep tearing up NFL defenses...

WR Alec Pierce is probably the perfect combination of scheme fit and value if we can get him in the 2nd round. Hell be a plug and play Z-receiver with excellent physicality and run blocking ability.

I'd still rather sign DJ Chark to let Pierce develop behind him, but the depth there would be elite by season's end...

White-boy comparison aside, Pierce compares to former Green Bay WR Jordy Nelson; straight line speed to get extra cushion off the line; mental toughness to win at the catch-point...

Re: 2022 NFL Draft: Draft Prospects, Scouting

Translation - Alex Pierce has traits of a dawg.

High points the ball, 50/50 specialist and can separate.

Ill be highly disappointed if we dont grab a WR early in the draft.

Dameon was impressive at the Sr Bowl; but have reservations he only saw light load at Florida, 3rd down back load - that's concerning if you want to take him before R4...

Re: 2022 NFL Draft: Draft Prospects, Scouting

Ironhead has another boy going pro this year: Michigan St HB/TE Connor Heyward. He played running back for four years and moved to more of a H-Back/TE role this past season.

Hes about 6-0, 230 and I dont have to tell you hes a tough runner. He definitely doesnt have breakaway speed but he did return kicks so theres a little elusiveness there and pretty good hands in the passing game.

I think theres a lot of potential there.
