Re: 2016 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook

Found this interesting - we may be going old school with jersey numbers as all numbers from #40 throught #99 have been issued except #80.

It's been a real looooong time since we had a defensive end wear a number in the 80's; by the counts, though, I'd say someone is heading for a waiver/injury settlement and that jersey will probably be recycled...

I know it's early in TC but I haven't heard a whole lot of conversation about Fleener.

He's coming along... Still trying to establish chemistry with Brees and do things the way Brees wants when it comes to running routes, etc. I haven't heard anything negative about him so far. The guy that is still a ghost is Josh Hill. I've heard more about Chris Manhertz than Hill.

I'm really liking the depth we currently have @ WR.

Side note - I know Payton doesn't elaborate on injuries to players but is Darryl Tapp nursing an injury of some sort?

This is all I could really find:

I think he was out there at practice observing though so that's good.

Question: If Peat looks that good playing Left Tackle, do you consider moving Armstead to Right Tackle? Kick Strief inside?

Re: 2016 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook

Interesting

Cowboys need a reliable back up QB we need a Guard. Get it done Mickey

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Saints have pursued a trade for Cowboys G Ronald Leary for the past few months.

The Cowboys are clearly in the market for a backup quarterback and some have said that Leary could be used as a trade chip to net them a quarterback. However, Rapoport doesn’t specifically say the Saints would make one of their backup quarterbacks available in a trade for Leary.

Leary elected to skip the Cowboys’ voluntary OTAs in the hope of facilitating a trade. However, the Cowboys made it clear that they weren’t giving him away and Leary later attended the team’s mandatory three-day minicamp.

George previously mentioned that the Cowboys still view Leary as a valuable asset to their offensive line and are comfortable keeping him for the 2016 season. George adds that Dallas even thinks he could push second-year G La’el Collins in training camp, while also providing some important depth.

Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News reports that the Cowboys aren’t actively fielding trade offers for veteran G Ronald Leary, despite the fact that they could use some pass-rush help.

Leary, 27, wound up signing on with the Cowboys as an undrafted free agent out of back in 2012. He spent part of the 2012 season on their practice squad, but has since made the 53-man roster each season.

According to OverTheCap.com, trading Leary would free up $2,553,000 in available cap space while creating no dead money.

In 2015, Leary was limited to appearing in four games and played a total of 221 snaps for the Cowboys, according to Pro Football Focus.

Right now, before playing any preseason games, our clearest offseason needs next season:

(1) Interior Offensive Line

(2) Defensive End

(3) Kicker

Safety could quickly become a priority depending on keeping Byrd et al considerations...

Well, you know one of the reasons why they spread out the signings to several positions is so they'll be fresh bodies for all the reps...

Found out from inquiry that Pruitt has been taken reps in practice at Safety...

Highly doubtful Byrd is with this team next year, and we're as deep at cornerback in the history of the franchise...

So think they're just trying to see what his range will be to give them options going into the offseason next year...

Drafting corners seems to be trending upward.

With all the Saints' movement up in the draft back into the second round (e.g. Vonn Bell) and again into the fourth round (e.g. David Onyemata) we'd probably had taken another CB this year if we'd had a full complement of picks...

Really wanted us to take Southern Miss CB Kalan Reed, this year's Mr. Irrelevant, but the Saints enjoyed another fortuitous bounce with Cal RB Daniel Lasco still available in the seventh...

We'll probably target Guard, Safety and Defensive End in next year's draft, but I wouldn't be surprised if we continue taking corners even with the good crop we have at present; other than franchise QB's, corners have excellent
trade value...

The best news out of camp is the Defense...

But Armstead getting healthy is a plus...

Peat was doing a pretty good job on Cam Jordan and Co.

Re: 2016 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook

At least five (5) cornerbacks are making this team: 40 - Delvin Breaux, 25 - P.J. Williams, 27 - Damian Swann, 49 - De’Vante Harris and 46 - Ken Crawley; six (6) with 21 - Keenan Lewis, should he get healthy...

We've never been this deep at cornerback...ever!!!

I hate to jinx em but the kickers have been solid thus far.

Re: 2016 New Orleans Saints: Roster Outlook

I think John Kuhn is going to be a big upgrade at the FB position over Austin Johnson. I expect to see Mark Ingram, Tim Hightower, and CJ Spiller getting huge chunks of yardage with each carry.
